24.01.2022 Summer Interns Spotlight #6 Having already completed the Engage Internship (along with Joey - Summer Intern #2) in 2020, Miriam Dillon is our next Summer Intern in the spotlight. You will often find Miriam in a cafe with a coffee and a book or doing something active like going to the gym or jogging. She works as a physio and is about to become a student again! ... Miriam accepted Jesus into her life when she moved to Australia a few years ago after being invited to church by a dear friend. She is very thankful for her friend’s courage in inviting someone who was very closed off to Jesus at the time and for then walking alongside of her! The past twelve months have resulted in a gospel awakening where Miriam has been further convicted of the sinfulness of her inner being (of the depravity of her heart) and of her need for a saviour. Miriam is thankful for the deep realisation that Jesus is that saviour who came into the world to save sinners and that we can totally depend on him. Nothing else in this world can fulfil that need. 21.01.2022 Summer Interns Spotlight #8 Last, but not least, meet Grace Gibbs! During the week Grace works as an OSHC educator, a barista, and she studies primary education. ... Grace was very blessed to be brought up in a Christian family who continually love, guide and support her through her growing relationship with Jesus. When her family came to City on a Hill: Brisbane in 2016, God spoke into Grace’s heart and she began to intentionally seek him for herself for the first time. Since then, she has continued to develop her relationship with God and has become more confident in sharing her faith. Grace is really excited to get involved with the summer internship and to spend time in the word with likeminded people. She is also excited to get out of the comfort zone of her usual serving teams. 17.01.2022 We are delighted to announce that we have a new staff member starting this week: Mike Wziontek will be our full-time Community Pastor! Mike is married to Sarah, and father to Elle and Lily. Mike has been studying for the last three years at Queensland Theological College and working at Christ Central Presbyterian. Before that he worked for two great gospel-centred churches in NSW. Mike and Sarah have a heart for Brisbane and are excited to know Jesus and make Jesus known with... City on a Hill. God has kindly answered our prayers in the creation of this role. As a church, we not only want to grow in width - but also in depth. We trust that Mike’s addition to the team will help us grow deeper in love for one another and Christ-like maturity. 11.01.2022 Summer Interns Spotlight #4 The next Summer Intern in the spotlight is Joseph Gurren. During the week, you would normally find Joseph suiting up and throwing himself into the world of tax law and data analytics. But after that, you would find him hanging out with his family & friends, and walking his family’s dog. More recently he has really been enjoy hosting, cooking dinner, and conversing with people, building good friendships. ... Joseph was raised by God-fearing parents which has blessed him immeasurably. He was also immeasurably blessed when the Lord made himself known to him at the age of 7. Since then, he has grown over the years and God has used everything to help him understand his ways and nature. When he was younger, Joseph wrote out a list of life goals, and whilst not all of them have been accomplished, most have. He recently added to that list a life long goal to continue studying God’s word for the purpose of learning all its structures, theologies, and wisdom so that he might be able to support and encourage those around him who walk through difficult times. Hannah counts herself very blessed to have been born into a devoted Christian family, so Jesus has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. Even so, one major 'cementing' point was a Christian gap year she did called Year 13.... Hannah is currently a student completing a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts which is a traditional humanities course. In her spare time, she loves reading novels, getting coffee with her friends, and walking her dog. She is excited to be participating in the Summer Internship because she enjoys learning about God with knowledgeable and sincere Christians. 08.01.2022 Summer Interns Spotlight #7 IntroducingStephen! Although blessed with faithful parents who have guided him in the ways of godliness from birth, Stephen would not have considered himself a Christian until he attended a Scripture Union camp in 2014. After hearing the gospel message explicitly preached, the Holy Spirit convicted him of his sin and helped him understand his desperate need for a saviour. That night he put his trust in Jesus and decided to live his life to grow mo...re like Christ. During the week, Stephen spends a lot of his time studying at university to be a high school science teacher - a decision fuelled by both a love of scientific knowledge and a desire to constructively engage with young people. However, outside of his formal studies, he also enjoys playing soccer, reading books, and spending quality time with his family and friends. As part of the Summer internship, he’s most excited for the opportunity to serve Christ by using his gifts and talents to serve the church.
