23.01.2022 Daniel Ruggeri is a Lay Pastor at Melbourne West. He is also involved in co-leading a Gospel Community, mentoring, and leading the Men's Ministry in the church. He's also just started an online book club for men in the church, so send him a message if you would like to join! ------- While this season has been challenging, my wife Hannah and I have been thankful to God that we have been able to keep our jobs. Our work has both been quite busy. Hannah's work in mental health h...as seen an increase in people affected by stress of COVID, as well as an increase in anxiety, depression, and suicide. Reaching out to family and friends in church, as well as outside of church, is important to us during this tough time. We have both been trying to sustain social interaction through video calls, phone calls, messages, and even sending snail mail (sometimes with our daughter Vedel's colourful drawings) to others. We also readily check in with people, asking folks how they're going, what we can be praying for, as well as listening, providing advice, and sharing in the difficulties and highlights of this time. We have also been able to help others practically; such as new parents or those going through particular difficulties, by sending a meal or care package as ways of loving others. All in all, this time is about praying and trusting in a great God for being unceasingly good and thanking him for his blessings during this period of life. ------- If you wanted to chat with somebody, pray, or be encouraged by Scripture, please reach out to us at [email protected] and one of our lovely pastoral carers will be in contact with you.
21.01.2022 Stuart Eban is one of our Lay Pastors at Melbourne West. Both Stuart and his wife, Deb, have led a Gospel Community since Melbourne West started. Stuart is also a trained Biblical Counsellor (with the Christian Counselling Education Foundation), and a pastor to individuals within the church as well as some outside the church who are struggling with life issues. ------- Counselling and pastoring involve relationships with individuals. The Bible tells us that we should care fo...r one another and that is what counselling and pastoring are all about. In this COVID-19 age, there is clearly an increased need in society as evidenced by reports of loneliness, anxiety, depression, mental issues, marriage difficulties, and more. I know that some of these issues exist even in our own congregation! It is more difficult and complicated in these COVID-19 times, but we persevere in faith. Personally COVID-19 has changed the way we live considerably. I am still able to ride my bike to keep fit so that is good. Not being able to spend time with our daughter and her family who live in Geelong has been a challenge. Our granddaughter Clara, who turned 3 last weekend, keeps asking to see us in person - FaceTime just isn’t the same for her! No matter what problems people are present with, Biblical and theological perspectives guide all pastoral work and these perspectives are rooted in the gospel of Salvation. Deb and I, and of course the other pastors, are available to listen to you, care for you, and pray with you, no matter what life issues you are currently experiencing. Don’t hesitate to call. ------- If you wanted to chat with somebody, pray, or be encouraged by Scripture, please reach out to us at [email protected] and one of our lovely pastoral carers will be in contact with you.
14.01.2022 My Favourite Psalm from Dom Macaluso Psalm 37 If we put our trust, our delight and passions into seeking after God’s kingdom, he will unpack these things and help us to flourish in the creative and specific ways he has gifted us. Be encouraged today by Dom’s story and his reflection on Psalm 37:4 and how God gives us the desires of our heart when we seek Him.... #breathe #myfavouritepsalm #wearecityonahill
12.01.2022 My Favourite Psalm from Beth Ceban Psalm 37 I can commit my way to Him and decide to follow Him, but to truly trust in Him and lean my full weight on Him is... another thing. Beth reflects on and shares her insight into Psalm 37 and how God has cultivated her heart towards Him and His way. #breathe #myfavouritepsalm #wearecityonahill

06.01.2022 When the world went into lockdown, congregational worship became impossible. But fortunately, it has been wonderful to have many faces and voices from our church contribute to our virtual choir worship videos that have blessed and encouraged our people to worship at home, and during our West Weekly Live services. A huge thank you to all these beautiful voices who joined us to put together this song Grace for our service this morning.

03.01.2022 As a Lay Pastor, Leigh Diprose helps to equip others and give relief to fellow Christians in their work of service in Melbourne West. Leigh's role entails occasional preaching, mentoring, and counselling. ------- My wife Helen and I are convinced that prayer has a powerful effect. We are regularly engaged in our weekday morning prayer sessions which Leigh is currently overseeing for Carmen, our Prayer Coordinator.... Covid 19 has prevented our 70th birthdays celebrations with family, let alone friends. Visits from our New Zealand daughter and son's family in South Australia were cancelled. Limited contact has been had with our other Melbourne daughter and son's families. We are thankful to God for modern communications via a family app and zoom conferencing and our children currently retaining employment. Caring has taken on new dimensions. Our state-wide 'Roving Revs' ministry has receded to a 'Phoning Revs' ministry. Phone calls to pastors of various denominations have been warmly appreciated. Many caring calls have been appreciated from family and friends living interstate, particularly with Melbourne stepping up to stage four. We have endeavoured to help neighbours via cooking, lawn mowing and produce from our garden. The care shown in this virus season needs to support one another in knowing resilience and increasing dependence on God. One of the best ways of showing care is to pray for God's sovereign interventions. Leigh's burden is to uphold our pastoral team in prayer, particularly with the loss of face to face preaching and pastoral care. Together we seek to bring a ministry of encouragement via phone to those living on their own and those suffering distress. If you would like prayer or a confidential chat feel free to contact us. ------- If you wanted to chat with somebody, pray, or be encouraged by Scripture, please reach out to us at [email protected] and one of our lovely pastoral carers will be in contact with you.
01.01.2022 "This life is not a waiting room, a holding pattern or the warm-up act for resurrection life. Resurrection life starts now. It transforms the way we live our lives now. Not just on Sundays, but transformed lives Monday to Sunday." - Andy Pearce Check out the sermon......
