25.01.2022 The UDIA NSW Hunter Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) briefing was a great opportunity for our team to hear from Hunter Council about progress made on their draft LSPS. Greg Sullivan, the Department of Planning, Infrastructure and Environments Hunter Region Director, provided great insights into the LSPS program and how this program will be the first time Council led strategic planning is recognised within legislation (s3.9 of the Act). The LSPS program provides Councils with more opportunity than ever before to control their own futures. Look out for the Lake Macquarie City Council draft LSPS which is now on exhibition. Expect to see the other Hunter Councils also exhibit their draft LSPSs over the coming few months. #LSPS #DueJuly2020

25.01.2022 It’s been 3 years since the NSW Government updated the NSW population projects. In a city with so much activity it’s no surprise that projections change. What’s critical is that users of this data reflect on changes and make sure their strategic decisions are based on the latest evidence. Need some help understating the changes? Give Chris O’Dell a call on 8270 3500. #westernsydney #populationgrowth #sydney

24.01.2022 Gaming in Planning Education! Interactive, multi-person digital game platforms can be used as an educational tool in high schools and planning degrees, providing an insight into the complex, challenging and rewarding nature of our industry. Our planners participated in the Department of Planning, Industry and Environments recent webinar which focused on a new digital planning game developed by Nicholas Stevens at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Already played by more than 2000 high school students, we are excited to see the potential use of this game in community consultation and education in NSW. You can check out the game at the link below

23.01.2022 Two of our young planners were lucky enough to attend the Urban Taskforce Australia forum on ICAC and corruption issues facing planning and development in NSW. Anthony Pedroza, a Senior Corruption Prevention Officer at ICAC, presented an engaging talk on the key objectives of the Commission as an Independent statutory body, to promote integrity and accountability in public administration. Key takeaways from the presentation relate to the prevention of corruption in the NSW Pl...anning System by improving transparency, accountability and openness, reducing the complexity of the system, balancing competing public interests and avoiding wide discretion by decision makers. Overall, he noted that our system needs better regulation NOT more regulation to assist in the prevention of corruption. We are looking forward to attending more of Urban Taskforces morning tea forums throughout the year! See more

23.01.2022 Members of our Planning team attended the Property Councils member briefing on local strategic planning statements (LSPS) hosted by Mills Oakley today. The LSPS process has kickstarted LEP reviews, which makes us wonder.... Can the standard instrument respond to the strategic planning approach and emerging issues LSPS are trying to achieve?

19.01.2022 With every key indicator confirming that Sydneys development industry is continuing to slow down, the NSW Premiers announcement on Planning reform in 2020 has had universal praise. However, with demand still strong, now is not the time to pause and wait for reform to be announced and implemented. For more information follow the link below. #planning #sydney #development #reform #affordability

15.01.2022 Like so many of you, we have been stunned by the scale of devastation arising from this summers bushfire crisis. We recognise there will be a long road to recovery, and that the development industry will undoubtedly be at the centre of these efforts. In response, we are offering our support through the Local Government Bushfire Recovery Group to provide pro-bono assistance to Councils who have been affected by fires. This includes where we can support with development asses...sment, land use and development policy, risk based planning and best practice assessment processes, and staff training initiatives. The group is coordinated through the City of Sydney, with support from the Office of Emergency Management and Office of Local Government. The proposed redevelopment pays honour to its location by restoring the historic city block pattern, and offering passers by an understanding of one of the 1989 earthquakes most devastated locations. This prominent location will offer residential products to suit a diverse mix of household types, ages, and mobilities right in the heart of our vibrant city.
