25.01.2022 Sydney Symphony Orchestra musicians play a captivating piece written by their very own Justin Williams! We're excited to broadcast the world premiere of Justin's 'Movement for String Quartet'. Thank you also to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for presenting it as part of its Chamber Sounds Digital Series."

25.01.2022 We are delighted to welcome Australian Chamber Orchestra back to our stage for an exuberant and hopeful program this September 5-11! This will be the first live performance City Recital Hall has staged since we closed in March 2020. What better way to mark the occasion than with a program full of optimism, exhilaration and transfiguration, themes reflective of our joy to welcome live performance again. The requisite physical distancing measures within the hall means that sea...ting will be limited to 400 patrons per concert, appropriately spaced throughout the hall which has a normal capacity of 1,238. Limited tickets are available now: http://bit.ly/ACOTransfigured

21.01.2022 Back in 2014, Ara from Theme & Variations Piano Services visited the Steinway showroom in Hamburg, Germany to choose our magnificent Steinway piano. On this day, Ara had 11 pianos to choose from and he played each several times before selecting the winner (in just 30 minutes - when you know, you know!) Thank you to Ara and the team at Theme & Variations Piano Services for all the exemplary work you have done at City Recital Hall and happy 35th anniversary!

21.01.2022 We were so delighted to have Australian Chamber Orchestra perform on our stage to a live audience for the first time in six months! Thank you to everyone who came and was a part of this wonderful experience, we can't wait for the rest of the concerts this week.

21.01.2022 Check out Sydney Symphony Orchestra's latest installment of Chamber Sounds with Richard Meales Cantilena Pacifica string quartet. Richard Meale, along with Peter Sculthorpe, was one of the great trailblazers of new music in Australia in the 1960s and the unofficial leader of the Australian avant-garde. In the late 1970s, Meale made a dramatic change in his style, returning to tonal music. The Second String Quartet was the first major work of this new period, and its last movement is frequently heard on its own, as in this performance. It is deeply serene, with three of the quartets members playing a murmuring accompaniment over which the solo violin gently floats.

21.01.2022 Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans is a truly sublime and bloodthirsty (think beheading) work, and it is filled with magnificent music. Here's a clip from Pinchgut Opera's 2007 production, showing the chorus scene at the end of Act I with the wonderful Sally-Anne Russell as Judith and Sara Macliver as Abra. #baroque #baroqueopera #PinchgutOpera #opera #operaperformance #beautiful #ClassicalMusic #singer #chorus #soprano #performer #operaperformer #Vivaldi
