21.01.2022 During the reign of King Edward VI (1547-1553), it was mandated for the first time that church services be sung in English, and that the choral music be brief and succinct. From John 14:15-17, Tallis' 'If Ye Love Me' is frequently presented today, and has been sung at special occasions including most recently the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle in 2018. John 14:15-17 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray ...the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 21.01.2022 Fairest Lord Jesus is a hymn with a somewhat elusive history. Some stanza originated as early as 1607, possibly written by German Jesuits, and which first appeared in print in 1677. The tune (Crusaders Hymn), from the central European region known as Silesia, was first published in a German collection in 1842. In 1850, Richard Willis, composer of the music for It Came upon a Midnight Clear, arranged the song for use in church hymnals. Several slightly different versions o...f the beautiful lyrics have appeared over the years. Fairest Lord Jesus is a hymn which overflows with adoration for Jesus and all that He has done. Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, O thou of God and man the Son; Thee will I cherish, thee will I honour, Thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown. Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands, robed in the blooming garb of spring: Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, who makes the woeful heart to sing. Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight, and all the twinkling, starry, host: Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer than all the angels heaven can boast! Beautiful Saviour! Lord of all the nations! Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honour, praise, adoration, Now and forever more be Thine.

21.01.2022 In Rev Richard Kingham's message this week, we look at the conflict Jesus had with the religious authorities that eventually led to his arrest, trial and execution. What our Lord went through for us that we might be able to be reconciled with our Creator. All praise must go to our wonderful Lord. May we each be encouraged as we walk with him this week.

15.01.2022 The text of All Creatures of Our God & King was written in 1225 by one of the most interesting figures in church history, St Francis of Assisi, who spent his life as an evangelist. Completely blind and nearing death, this text was written on a hot summers day in 1225. The text is a meditation on Psalm 145. The words were translated, or rather paraphrased into English, by William Draper, who at the time was a rector of the Church of England, for a childrens festival in Le...eds in England around 1910. These words of song are some of the oldest in worship of the Church, and to imagine all those before us who have praised the God is amazing. This great hymn enumerates various features of the creation and summons all to praise the Lord with their alleluias. We continue to sing this well-loved hymn at the Tabernacle and thus join with millions of believers throughout the ages, and with all of Creation, to sing our praises to our Creator God! See more

05.01.2022 "The City Tabernacle in Brisbane has had a great history, but the greatness is by no means all in the past. Nothing is more needed in this troubled age than the faithful declaration of the Gospel of Christ, the only Hope of the world. May you all have great blessing as you give thanks for the century that has gone and consecrate yourselves to the days ahead." These words of the President, Baptist World Alliance, Dr. F. Townley Lord, remain especially true today in these tro...ubling times as when they were first uttered for our Centenary many years ago. Please join us in person or online on Sunday at 10.30am for the City Tabernacle's 165th Anniversary. A service of praise, worship and celebration, with hymns and praise songs and of course the powerful presence of the Pipe Organ, and with Rev Dr David Loder as our guest preacher, do not miss this unique opportunity to be challenged and inspired in your walk with Jesus. All are welcome!

04.01.2022 It has been a joy to be able to meet in person for corporate worship and fellowship over the past few weeks. Earlier today, the Queensland Government issued new restrictions to mitigate against the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 in response to new cases linked to the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. However, these restrictions do not apply to church gatherings held on the premises of churches operating under the COVID Safe Industry Plan for Places of Wor...ship. This means that Church will continue as normal at this time under our COVID Safe Plan. it is particularly important to stay home if sick, to maintain good hand/coughing hygiene, and maintain physical distancing. We plan to continue providing services online via Facebook or the Church's website for those who choose to not attend services at this time. Please continue to pray for all those impacted by this disease and all those in positions of leadership and authority as they make decisions for the good of our nation. As the church we need to be earnestly praying for our city, nation and world.

02.01.2022 It was a joy to recently celebrate with Ian who declared his faith in Jesus and entered into the waters of baptism. Ian shared a powerful testimony which is available in last week's online service #brisbanechurch #baptistchurch
