25.01.2022 City Tattersalls Club are proud supporters of Lifeline through their sponsorship of the Go For Broke bike ride. Lifeline is a national charity providing Austral...ians experiencing an emotional crisis with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services Go for Broke is a one day 180km cycle event raising funds and awareness for mental health. Like depression, Go for Broke is a tough event. Riders are placed into pelotons of 20, work together and support each other to get to the finish line. Cyclists ride from Berowra in Sydney’s North to Broke in the Hunter Valley. Hence the name. The event started with 17 riders in 2016 and now in its 5th year, has raised in excess of $200,000 for Lifeline’s critical frontline services. In this year of Covid-19 everyone in our society has been affected. The impact has seen a 25% increase in call rates during 2020 with Lifeline recently experiencing the most calls they have ever received within a 24 hours period. City Tatts Cycling have entered a team in Go For Broke for the past 3 years. This year we have 10 riders, each trying to raise much needed funds for Lifeline. If you can help donations can be made through our Team Page : https://give.goforbroke.org.au/fundraisers/citytatts Any support you can provide is appreciated

22.01.2022 Did you know? In May 1977, the Ladies' Golf Club was formed. Membership had been as high as 100, and the Club was also welcoming new Members. The Golf Club played twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays. Their activities were internal, with no competitions against other Clubs. Elected when she founded the Club, the friendly and popular Shirley Moloney was still President 18 years later in the City Tattersalls Club centenary year. It was a Club tradition that she sang a special Happy Birthday song to every Member on or near their special day.

19.01.2022 Did you know? In 1900, five years after the Club was founded, the first City Tattersalls Club race was held at Randwick. Apart from a gap between 1902 and 1912, a City Tattersalls Cup meeting has been held every year at Randwick in October. At one time a second was held in May. An important difference from earlier days is that today the meeting is conducted by the Australian Jockey Club, rather City Tattersalls, and the events are no longer named after the Clubs personalities as they were until 1990. The image below shows the 1991 City Tattersalls Club Cup winner, Initial Approach, ridden by Malcolm Johnston, leading the field 50m from the finish.

19.01.2022 Join us for the race that 'stops a nation' - the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 3 November. As the most famous horse race in Australia, held over a distance of 3200m at Flemington Racecourse, we invite you for an exciting day of celebrations in Lime Bar & Bistro.

18.01.2022 These are not the circumstances we had in mind to celebrate our anniversary. 125 years ago on the 31st August 1895 a group of bookmakers gathered to discuss t...he establishment of a Club. When agreement could not be reached, the meeting held at Her Majestys Hotel was adjourned and so they met again on the 2nd of September 1895. After some discussion, a motion moved by Langley and seconded by Webb was unanimously passed that a Club named City Tattersalls Club be formed, the rest is history!!!! Over my career in this great industry, I have had the pleasure of working for some great organisations, but to be the 11th Secretary and CEO of this Iconic Institution is a real honour and a role that I will never take for granted. Happy birthday City Tatts and to the many amazing people who over the past 125 years have contributed greatly to the incredible fabric of this great Club. Marcelo

12.01.2022 City Tattersalls Club will today at 11am, be paying our respect to Australia's servicemen and women with a minute's silence throughout the Club. We invite you to join us. Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November and marks the signing of the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. The Second World War began just 21 years later. Almost a million Australians served during that conflict lasted close to six years. Armistice Day was then renamed Remembrance Day.

12.01.2022 Back in 1928 and in 1951 City Tattersalls Sponsored The Ashes Trophy for the international games played against England and France. Thanks to the great people... at the NRL these are on display at the Club for a very limited time. Great pieces of history! Celebrating 125 years!!!

12.01.2022 Dementia affects almost half a million Australians, with the number expected to double in the next 25 years. The concept of Dementia Action Week 2020 has been developed in consultation with Dementia Advocates, who have a lived experience with the illness. Dementia Action Week 2020 aims to demonstrate that people living with the illness continue to live an active life for many years after their diagnosis. Many continue to make significant contributions to our community; they engage, make their own choices and live rich lives. Dementia Australia

11.01.2022 Did you know? Bookmaker Club Members were assigned safety deposit boxes with their own key. A master key for the main safe hung at the end of the bar. The boxes held thousands of pounds, and later crisp dollar notes, that changed hands on Monday mornings on steel-topped tables arranged around the Lower Bar, to settle beds from the weekend racing. Legend has it that many bookies also used their safety deposit boxes to evade the tax man, because no one ever knew what was stashe...d in the metal boxes. It is perhaps surprising that it happened only once, but in 1958 someone broke into several of City Tatts safety deposit boxes. The theory is that someone knew the routine of City Tatts bookies, which was to relax after a hectic Monday morning with an afternoon swim at Coogee baths or Redleaf pool in Double Bay. Someone took the opportunity to make impressions of the keys left in the change rooms and then later broke into the safety deposits boxes. No official account exists of what was taken, as none of the bookmakers would give an account of what was in the boxes. Whispers abound that though the robbers were never officially apprehended by the police, they were dealt with privately. What is official is that this was the first and only time that the safety deposits boxes were ever robbed. Was the City Tatts safety deposit an official out of bounds for the criminal class? You be the judge on whether this is fact or fiction!

04.01.2022 Members Assistance With Contact Tracing Posted 31st August 2020 Dear Members,... As the Club continues to work with NSW Health to contact trace positive visitors and how it got into our Fitness Centre, we are now reaching out to you for assistance. Due to privacy laws, NSW Health is not able to provide the Club with the names of the people who have tested positive and we totally understand and respect that. We are at present trying to assist Government as best we can, using certain parameters given to us to try to establish peoples movements within the Club. Unlike many other businesses, our Club has the advantage of being a Member based organisation and through our membership database and systems it is quite easy for us to identify a person from the moment they walk in and until they leave our Clubhouse. Not having access to the persons name from the start, makes it quite frustrating for us here at the Club for no other reason other than the fact that we want to reach out to Members to check how they are dealing with the Virus and to respond to NSW Health as quickly as possible. In a few instances to date, we have not learnt the Members details until many days after testing positive. We can anticipate, some Members may want to keep this private, some may even feel embarrassed, but please dont. We urge Members that if you have tested positive to COVID-19 and have not already contacted the Club, then please do so as soon as you are diagnosed, so we can stay in touch with you and do our best to assist Government. Rest assured that our staff will keep your name and personal details confidential, but your information is invaluable to keeping you and your fellow Club Members safe. For those who contacted me this morning directly, thank you for reaching out and I am glad you are doing well given the circumstances. Thanks again and stay safe Marcelo A. Veloz Chief Executive Officer For the latest updates and advise on the COVID-19 please visit the NSW Health website: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates
