23.01.2022 Our last past player profile we'd like to share is our most recent Division One Premiership Captain, Matt 'Sheep' Nelson. Sheep again came through the ranks as a junior and progressed through to play in a father/son Division 3 Premiership. Sheep then made a move out to Deans Marsh to play with a few of his mates in Div 2 for a couple of years, we he had quite a succesfull couple of years. Scoring plenty of runs and winning a flag.... He returned to City United in 2008/09 and again took the spot of opening batsman & ordinary fielder. He'd make a lollypop catch at his accustomed mid-on/mid-off look like an outfield catch with a difficulty rating of 12 out of 10. He was a handy medium-swing bowler who was able to tie down one end and grab a couple of sneaky wickets. He became the Division 1 captain in 2010/11 and led the club to a flag in his first year in charge. Since then, he took us to the GF the following year, eventually going down to Alvie. He's also spent time away from the game but made a comeback to play in the Division Two flag in 2014/15. Not too many players get a chance to play in a premiership in Div 1, Div 2 & Div 3 at the same club (plus juniors)! We are again hopeful we'll see Sheep return to our club one day to again take out the title for most dropped catches in a season. At present, he's scored 1652 runs @ 20.65, with a high score of 119 not out. He also claimed 34 wickets at 22.5 with best bowling of 4/7. He has also dropped 172 catches at an average of 2.02 drops per game. Ironically & unbeknown to us when we’ve created this post, it’s actually Sheep’s birthday today. Happy birthday!

20.01.2022 4 rounds in to the senior comp. Div 1 with another win today with Aanlin Cheeran probably playing his best Div 1 game in his short career. Amongst the wickets & runs! The boys are on 3wins thus far. Div 2 were outplayed today from season’s runners up - Tomahawk Creek. Sammy Cardinal on the comeback from injury crafted a nice 73. ... Div 3 fronted perennial finalist Irrewarra who were just too strong. The highlight of the day was youngster Simon Day taking 5/27 with the ball. If you’re on the coast tomorrow, our under 17’s will in action against Apollo Bay. Our 14’s had a solid game last night against Irrewarra with Dylan Moloney having a great game with the ball. Oliver Cameron also making 56no.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to current Skipper Shane Currie & his partner Emily on the arrival of Leonard! Fair to say he will be mainly bowling in the backyard to Noah, as Noah doesn’t like to do anything except bat.

16.01.2022 Div 1 came away with the win this arvo against Birregurra in an absolute nail biter. The game ebbed and flowed and the boys bowled well after losing wickets cheaply in the 2nd half of our innings. Div 2 were outplayed by Birre but rumour has it Workhorse may have replicated Warny’s Ball of the Century to snag a wicket Div 3 also came down to the wire and ended up in a draw with Birre. Great knocks from Jacob Stannard and Lionel Scott! Apologies if you have been relying on t...he MyCricket live scoring app to keep up with the scores. Quite a few technical issues at the moment with the program. Don’t forget the U/17s play tomorrow, so try to pop up to the Eastern and show your support. TikTok is looking to break out of the duck pond!

15.01.2022 Very happy with our new T20 kits from Icon Sports Geelong. We’ve chosen to revert back to the original club colours of purple & gold. Also a huge thanks to Newton Painting for his support! Can’t wait to see the boys in the kits in our next T20 in a couple of weeks.

14.01.2022 Div 1 & 2 come up short today, but the highlight of today was the father & daughter and mother & sons combinations in Div 3....getting the win has also made Craig a happy man!

13.01.2022 A reminder for our U/14 & U/17 players. We need you to register at the link below before your first game!!! U/17's, this being tomorrow night...There has been a few issues with the mycricket system across Australia, which takes a bit of time to work through, so if everyone could aim to have this done by 6pm tonight that would be greatly appreciated. https://playreg.cricket.com.au/pages/reg/welcome.aspx

13.01.2022 The u/14 game today will be played at South Colac. NOT EASTERN RESERVE.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to our First Lady on here win!

10.01.2022 He’s been in quite some form for the last few weeks...if only Shane had won a toss! Well done Inga. Sam Cardinal also batted well and was backed up by a solid bowling performance from all bowlers... Busy week ahead: U/17’s in action Tues & Thurs night at Eastern from 5pm. T20 - Wed night from 5pm... Sat - last home & away games before XMas break Sun - T20 Semi Final & hopefully final!!

10.01.2022 Great to be part of the Peak Fitness Academy program. Doing great things for our local community.

08.01.2022 Good work Shane Currie

05.01.2022 Rest In Peace Gavin King. Over the last 10-15 years, Kingy along with wife Leanne have played an enormous part of the City United Cricket Club. If you think of the word ‘volunteer’ and the actions that they normally undertake, Kingy did the lot, plus more! He was a quiet achiever, who put so many hours in behind the scenes to keep things ticking along. Leanne & him both held the role of Secretary and kept the rest of the committee on track. He was the ‘fixer-upper’ of everything. He constructed our training nets also single handedly, fixed rollers, mowers & more, plus was a keen photographer at the cricket. To Leanne & family, we are all thinking of you at such a difficult time. Rest easy Kingy.

02.01.2022 This will be our last weekend in reflecting on some of our past players. Next week we will touch on some of our CURRENT Players. His dad was a catalyst in the merger of Balintore & Colac Imperials and we saw his profile when we started this little segment. Although his time at City United was limited, his impact on not on our club, but the CDCA was enormous. Here we take a look at Phillip Lang. He quickly took his place in the 1st XI as a junior and played important roles in... some premiership teams. He was a member of the 1979/80 A Grade Premiership and fittingly presented Matt Nelson with the Cup in 2011. Bowling wise, many cricket followers believe he may have been the best they've seen in the CDCA and he went on to form a formidable team at Warrion where Phil played in a number of premierships. In his time at City United, he claimed 6-wicket hauls on 4 occasions, with his best bowling of 8/17. Following his time at City United, Phil went on to play some Premier Cricket in Melbourne and as we've mentioned above, played a key role in Warrion's success. He's given a lot back to the sport more recently and was the CDCA Chairman for a few years as well as coaching junior sides. See more

01.01.2022 Well done to our T20 lads, who this evening won the final in another close encounter.
