23.01.2022 Project: Windsocks Location: RAAF Base Richmond Phase 1. Modification works to 3 windsocks at the base. Before landing or taking off, pilots check the windsocks which help them to judge the direction of the wind for their flights. Currently the windsocks are constructed in the grass patch. Civilcraft are tasked with constructing a round concrete footing around the windsock. The colour of the asphalt will enable the windsocks to stand out from the grass patch. This enables the... pilots flying above to identify where they are. Phase 2. Demolition of footings at the end of the runway. Initially, nettings were placed at the end of the runways to catch fighter jets if their braking systems were to fail. The nettings were removed as they are no longer required. Phase 3. Build concrete aprons around arrestor cable structures. The arrestor cable structures sit on the side of the runways with a hidden cable attached at each end. When jets and figher planes land, the cables are deployed so that it can be hooked onto and help the planes to come to a halt. Due to rain over the years, the grass patch around the structures started eroding and it started collecting water. Our project is to build a concrete apron around the structure to prevent ponding of water. #Civilcraft @ RAAF Base Richmond
