14.01.2022 Limit plant and equipment depreciation deductions to outlays actually incurred by investors On 9 May 2017 the Government announced that from 1 July 2017, plant and equipment depreciation deductions will be limited to outlays actually incurred by real estate property investors. Investors who purchase plant and equipment for their residential property investment after 9 May 2017 will be able to claim a deduction over the effective life of the asset.... Property owners will be unable to claim deductions for plant and equipment purchased by a previous owner of the property

14.01.2022 _Cars Cars Cars The ATO is now going to match up vehicle sales - see below ATO data matching motor vehicles... The ATO will acquire information for the 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19 financial years, on vehicles that have been transferred or newly registered where the purchase price or market value is equal to or greater than $10,000. Data will be acquired from the eight state and territory motor vehicle registry authorities. It is estimated that records of 1.5 million individuals in each year will be electronically matched with ATO data holdings to identify non-compliance with obligations under tax and superannuation laws. 12.01.2022 New Tax Rates for 2016/2017. In the May Budget the government announced changes to individual tax rates for the 2016-17 income year. Legislation dealing with those announced rates was introduced to Parliament on 31 August 2016. As a result a number of tax tables have been updated to apply from 1 October 2016. Those tax tables that have not been updated will continue to apply. Updated tax tables do not include any catch-up component for the portion of the year which has alread...y passed. Individuals affected will receive the full benefit of the tax changes upon assessment of their income tax return for the 2016-17 income year. You need to use the latest tax tables to calculate withholding from 1 October 2016. New tax tables are now available at ato.gov.au/taxtables If you use accounting software, contact your software provider for any software updates.



01.01.2022 RENTAL PROPERTY DEDUCTIONS From 1 July 2017, the deductions for travel to residential rental property will be disallowed. In particular, the travel cost of attending inspections, maintaining the property or collecting rent will be excluded. This includes travel for meetings at the property agent’s office or attending a strata meeting. It is important to note here that the expenses will relate to travel only.
