Established in 1602 by the Dutch East India Company, the two lions one their hind feet depict the sense of guaranteed security of the trade activities. The cock on the rock (wow, that rhymes ) depicts the city of Galle - also found on other monuments like the top of the clock tower of Galle Forte.
