01.01.2022 GARLIC HARVEST IN FULL SWING Known for it's pungent flavour and health benefits, garlic is a high value crop for producers in Australia, yet pretty tricky to... grow. What garlic variety do you prefer? Barmera garlic grower Chris Jericho started to harvest some of his Australian Red variety earlier this week and says the crop is looking pretty good this year. In his fourth year of harvest he says one of the challenges the industry faces is mechanisation. "Garlic can be a bit fragile and it's hard to use machinery, and therefore it's a lot of manual labour." Yet, to tackle the challenge, Mr Jericho built his own automatic planter and tries to modify a potato harvester to help him pick the garlic.
