A Wes...tern Australian man was recently caught trying to import a Canadian Grey wolf pelt without the proper permits from the Australian Department of the Environment and Energy as the item fell under the CITES regulations. 18.01.2022 "Bon appetweet!" Travellers often attempt to bring food items into Australia. Our officers in Melbourne discovered this unusual and rare delicacy in a traveller...s baggage. These edible birds nests have been used in traditional Chinese cooking for over 400 years. Believed to promote good health, the swiftlet nests are made of solidified saliva and are among the most expensive animal products consumed by humans. The birds nests pose a serious biosecurity risk and are subject to strict import restrictions in Australia, particularly with regard to H5N1 avian flu. See more

Recently, our officers joined forces with N...SW Police Force to investigate the prohibited importation of 71 imitation firearms to a business in Sydney. 03.01.2022 To protect Australias borders the ABF doesnt just monitor sea cargo movements through the major capital city ports. Over the past two days Australian Border F...orce officers, with support from Tasmania Police, have conducted an operation in the Tasmanian ports of Burnie and Devonport to test the integrity of the supply chain. The ABFs Detector Dog Unit and the Tasmania Police Dog Unit also supported the operation which targeted vessels arriving from Melbourne as well as waterfront personnel, transport providers and cargo depot staff who interact with cargo moving under Customs control.
