19.01.2022 LAYLA UPDATE Darling Layla has found a foster home who she has moved to over the weekend. For those who havent been following, Layla is frightened of new people and new environments/situations :( Layla is doing alot better then we thought she would with the move, but still has a LONG way to go! But we believe in her and she has a wonderful foster mum who is determined but also patient and kind Layla hasnt yet gone inside, feeling more comfortable outside with her ...bed and crate etc.. we are sure it wont take her long to realise all the good stuff like couch snuggles are inside We are looking forward to watching this girl overcome some major fear and become the beautiful girl we know she can be! Stay tuned

18.01.2022 Toilet training is something that frustrates many new puppy owners. The simple truth about successful toilet training is that ...it takes planning and management to get it right the first time. You have to accept that there will be accidents, and those accidents are our fault. Much like in human children, individual dogs will vary in how quickly they achieve 100% house trained status. The time this takes will also be dependent on how successfully you manage their space and time when inside, and how observant you are of your puppys behaviour. ? : ! But here are some of the most common times you can expect your puppy to need the loo. Shortly after eating a meal Shortly after having a drink After a big play or run around After a big sleep Pay careful attention to your puppys behaviour when they are inside. If your puppy is wandering aimlessly and sniffing the floor they are likely thinking about toilet time and should go outside. Observing your puppys behaviour is made much easier when we limit their access to the house. The more space they have to roam, the more likely they are to slip away unnoticed. ? Play pens are fantastic for providing our puppies with enough space to still comfortably move about and play, while removing the possibility of them sneaking away unnoticed. These are great for when you cant keep a direct eye on your puppy. Toilet training is just one of many, many reasons that crating is a fantastic thing to teach our puppies. Unlike a puppy pen, crates are a little more restricted in space. This means they are not ideal for extended periods of time, but they are very good for managing your puppys toileting overnight or during brief periods of the day when the puppy cannot be monitored directly. This seems like common sense if you have a secure backyard, however, its important to remember that they are not guaranteed to conveniently toilet right before coming back inside. If your puppy has been out for an hour, this does not mean they wont come inside and go straight to the carpet for a poo. Baby gates are great for limiting the amount of unsupervised roaming your puppy can do in the house. Similarly, closing doors to unoccupied rooms will make it easier to keep an eye on what your puppy gets up to. In the first couple of weeks it is necessary to toilet our puppies during the night. When I have puppies, my nightly toilet routine is usually along the lines of: - Toilet my puppy at 9pm before bed - Set an alarm to toilet at 1am - Get up and toilet at 5.30am To make this process easier I also remove my puppys water bowl after they finish dinner. Your puppy wont dehydrate overnight. In instances where your puppy is already forming a habit of regularly toileting inside, temporarily tethering the puppy directly to you is sometimes the best option. This totally restricts the dogs ability to wander away and toilet inappropriately. ? If you dont catch your puppy in the act DO NOT punish them. Even if you think it happened recently, that ship has sailed. Thoroughly clean any accidents and take your puppy outside to make sure they have finished. It can be beneficial to get a purpose made cleaner in these instances as many human grade cleaners contains chemicals that actually enhance the odour to our dogs and encourage them to toilet there again in future. If your puppy is toileting in the house and you catch them in the act, pick them up and get them outside to finish. When you toilet your puppy outside make sure you praise them heavily for going in the desired place. Toileting can be put on cue by repeating your chosen word as the puppy toilets and then marking and rewarding them when they are finished. Using toilet pads in the house can seem like a useful thing when our dogs are young, however, there are some things to consider before rushing out to buy some. If your end goal is for the dog to toilet exclusively outside, at some point you will have to fade out the pads. When fading out the use of pads it is not uncommon for dogs to get confused and start toileting on things in the house that look similar - rugs and door mats. This behaviour becomes difficult to break. At the end of the day the easiest thing is to take the time to create a routine, properly manage your puppies space while inside, and get them used to toileting out of the house. Happy toileting
17.01.2022 HENRY Henry is such a smooch And he is getting much more confident around the dog https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/811847... **edited to add: the bald patch on the back of his neck is a sensitive reaction to something that is under control, according the vet unfortunately this is not the season for cats to grow fur so growing fur back will take a little while, he is ok **
16.01.2022 URGENT SPECIAL CARER NEEDED Meet Layla She is only 1.5yrs old, her microchip says she is staffy X but now she is older we believe possibly whippet X Rescue breed ... Layla is being surrendered to us by Lucys (Mousey) Adopter. We did a post recently about this particular situation. Layla was adopted through another Rescue and it was felt that it was easier surrendering both to us rather then splitting up between Rescues. This beautiful girl needs a very special, committed foster home. She is absolutely lovely and just stunning. BUT she is TERRIFIED of new people and new environments this is displayed with "chatter" barking at the new person, sometimes losing control with her bowels or bladder (this has been displayed at her recent vet visit) and retreating to her safe person (currently her owner). However once she has gotten to know you she is an absolute loyal and affectionate goofball! She loves to play with her toys and go for walks she is fairly good on her walks. She LOVES other dogs, has no issues with them at all Her ideal foster home: - MUST have another confident and calm dog to teach her the ropes - MUST have a committed attitude (this girl will not cope being moved constantly) - MUST be willing to work closely with our Dog Trainer and Committee - MUST be open to following instructions regarding diet, Layla does have skin allergies and we have seen the difference gut health makes to an anxious dog Thats it She is untested with cats. She is great with kids, however will do better with older kids who understand to give her space until she settles in She is fine if you work, but if your work hours are extreme, it may not be suitable as her foster family must have time to commit to managing her stress and anxiety If you can foster this stunning girl, who at such a young age, deserves a chance at a happy furever after. Then please message for a foster questionnaire
16.01.2022 CHARMANDER Meet the adorable pokmon, I mean kitten, Charmander who is ready to find his furever family ***Please read his profile in full before enquiring about this beautiful boy***... Charmander is a speed demon he is sooo fast! And looooves toys! Especially ones with bells in/on it He also loooves to play with the other cats, even if theyre not that interested he will amuse himself by playing with their tails or trying to get their attention Charmander will play attack you standing only on his back legs, almost like he was raised by meerkats He expects to have his own pillow on the bed to sleep on :P you may even find him under the sheets Sooo a bit of a background on Charmander; he was handed into Grange Vet Surgery as a stray. He was quite the little "feral" and everyone fell in love with him They took excellent care of Charmander, whilst looking for any potential owners missing him. Unfortunately after quite some time no one came forward :( during this time he also settled down and wasnt quite the little "feral" anymore :P Due to his start he isnt a super confident kitty and so does scare easily. He doesnt like the dogs, they do scare him, but he loooves other cats. He would do well with another cat Charmander will not do well with kids sadly :( theyre just too scary! He would love a home with no kids or older teenagers who are a bit more predictable then youngsters, so less scary Once Charmander is comfortable he is the most playful, beautiful kitty If you would like to meet Charmander, please message for an application https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/812904

15.01.2022 Dog Logic If you were talking to another human about how to improve their diet, you would probably suggest to cut out processed foods, high carb foods (sugar...), low-quality ingredients.... Now, look at your dog, the meat eater Mother Nature perfectly created to eat mostly fresh meat and a little plant matter and consider why its ok to do the complete opposite to what mother nature intended and the complete opposite to what youd recommend to your best friend. Start today by reducing their processed foods (kibble) and adding some fresh food in there i.e. meat, edible bones, eggs, plant matter, greek yoghurt, Kefir/Fermented Veggies from the store. Start with a teaspoon if thats all you can do and go from there. Join us to learn more at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/rawandfresh/

12.01.2022 LAYLA UPDATE Layla took a huge step towards overcoming her fears overnight Yesterday Layla still wouldnt come near her foster mum, still too frightened, then when her foster mum picked up her lead to move it Layla became a very different dog :O she was soooo happy, coming up to her foster mum with a happy tail! She let the lead be clipped on and off they went for a walk it was dark, it was cold, her carer wasnt going to let that stop this progress though so she s...et out in her pjs, barefoot in the cold and walked with Layla Checkout the video in the comments Then after the walk, Layla started coming inside in the house, wagging her tail and happy to see her carer. Then this morning, the "walking magic" happened again and they had this sweet moment together

05.01.2022 FOSTER CARER NEEDED We are looking for a special foster home for a pregnant mumma cat. Miss Kitty is coming in under our last litter program We require a home without any other cats and the ability to seperate dogs if you have any. Kids are ok, but no young kids sorry as Miss Kitty does not like them we also require the foster carer to be on the northside of Brisbane with the ability to transport to our Vet in Grange Must be good with communication Must be abl...e to foster this mumm and her kittens until the kittens are old enough to be adopted. We need to bring mumma in as soon as possible as we do not know how far along she is If you can foster Miss Kitty, please message for a foster questionnaire to complete
05.01.2022 BUSY DAY We have had a busy day today, at CKs Paws we have a hands on approach what does that mean? That means that at least 1 admin or committee member will meet our foster animals, and will be heavily involved in preparing them for adoption Today Allyse (Secretary) and I (Krystal aka President) had a full day meeting with foster carers, assessing and photographing dogs, smooching kitties ... We started the day seeing Indy, our tan and white Staffy, we took her to the vet then brought her back to her carer to spend some time with her and do her photos. Chatting about her progress, what other things we can try and all of her wins Then we went to see our mumma cat BMO and the Adventure Time Litter clipped all of their sharp claws, dropped off worm/flea treatment and chatted about their progress. Unfortunately mumma BMO isnt producing enough milk, with one kitten losing a bit of weight and already needing supplementing we made the decision to supplement feed all of the kittens ready to start weaning them next week Then we went and saw the gorgeous Nala, the brindle Staffy X Cattle Dog X! Now we havent updated as much as we would have liked on Nala. She came to us 5 months ago!!! Nala was a nervous wreck when she first came to us :( she was terrified of the lead and leaving the yard :( BUT thanks to her wonderful foster carer she now knows a lead isnt so scary she is still fightened to leave the yard but thats a work in progress that we believe will take a long time and she can continue to work on this with a furever family She is ever so sweet and so much fun! Nala had her photos done after being assessed on how far she has come and what her boundaries are Then lucky last for the day, we met with Tilly, the kelpie X who has been with us for a month now. Tilly is a beautiful, loving girl who unfortunately has leash aggression. So her carer has been working hard with her on this. Today we put her to the test, to see how far she has come and what we can tweak to get her further along in her training. We are so happy to report that she is getting better, she surprised us today and did really well We have tweaked her training plan to be a bit more suitable to her responses so she can continue to succeed! She is still like a puppy and has alot to learn like any rescue pup! But we believe we have set her up on a plan that could see her continue her training with a furever family So she got her photos done too! If we werent so hands on, I truly believe we would not have such great results like this in our animals To be able to be apart of changing these animals lives with their amazing foster carers is super rewarding We cant wait to share the photos of these girls from today and to see them continue their stories into their furever
04.01.2022 MISSY Meet the lovable smooch, Missy who is ready to find her furever We thought Missy might like to tell you more about herself ;) ... "Hellooo My name is Missy, I am energetic and full of life, sometimes forgetting my size but I am mostly a gentle giant. I am great with other dogs of all sizes, I just love them all and im very patient with young children Theyre so much fun! I love to play with my toys and explore the backyard Im not a fan of going on walks but I am learning to like it and getting better on the lead. My foster carers are working with me on my manners and basic commands, I have worked out that if I do what im asked I get treats or lots of pats, this makes me so happy I love a good snooze on the couch or anywhere comfortable. I think Im a lap dog so that comfortable snooze spot may be on you ;) Im a goof ball that just wants plenty of love and attention " If you would like to meet Missy, please message for an application https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/812941
02.01.2022 ADOPTED Its another "foster fail" Indys foster family were on the fence, unsure if they were ready to say yes, some of the family were unsure. So we discussed placing her up for adoption to look for a furever home in the meantime... Well when it became real that she was going up for adoption, the whole family realised they couldnt bare to part with her so they made it official and adopted Indy ... Welcome to your furever Indy Thankyou to her new family for choosing to adopt
02.01.2022 PLAYTIME Just a cat amusing herself https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/803276
02.01.2022 We can always count on animals to make our life fun!
01.01.2022 SPECIAL FOSTER NEEDED **Jupiters foster carer can no longer provide her with the care she needs, so we do need to move Jupiter ** Meet Jupiter!! ... Jupiter came to us pregnant from a hoarding situation :( she did not understand much about humans as she lived with LOTS of cats and one human. Its actually been about a year since she first come to us. She has come such a long way since then, but now needs a fpster home willing to get her that bit further. She socialises well with other cats and gains the much needed confidence from. Once she has settled in, she LOVES to lounge about and is even confident enough to sleep on her foster carers bed Jupiter loves to play with her toys as well as with the other kitty she lives with. She would make a great companion for another cat and loves to snuggle with her fur family. Jupiter is the kind of cat who you get as a friend for your other cat She does have anxiety with regards to being touched (we are working on it and she is currently on Zylkene). Given the right environment and someone willing to be patient with her we believe she will flourish and become the confident loveable kitty we know she can be. Jupiter doesnt like to be picked up or carried but will come and sleep close by once she is comfortable with you. She is a very shy girl and still easily startled. Because of this she would prefer a quiet home with no young children. We are open to both an adoption or a foster to adopt family to ensure Jupiter finds her happily furever after. We will provide ongoing support and advice to whomever is willing to take a chance on this beautiful girl https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/806486
