25.01.2022 Since the middle of March, 18.5% of arts and entertainment workers have lost their jobs, and 53% of businesses have ceased trading. But the Minister for the Art...s has been missing in action. We need an Arts Minister who will stand up for the industry and workers he oversees. Paul Fletcher: we need an arts and entertainment rescue package now. #saveourcreators #noworkerleftbehind See more

25.01.2022 I saw this play last night and I have never seen a more emotionally excoriating performance in my life. The play and the performance is important and exquisite and I am so glad I got to see it. Hullabaloo Co. and Claire Bowen Management promoted and produced this tour, and thank you to Lisa Campos and Will Dunlop who saw the show in Brisbane and Canberra to review it. Huge respect to Tim Marriott, Fen Marriott and Toby H Marriott as the formidable tour team - writer/performer.../director Tim, tech and promoter Toby, counsellor Fen. What a truly inspirational team of artists and educators. If you see Shell Shock The Play playing in a town near you in Australia, New Zealand or the UK, go and see it, it will not disappoint.

22.01.2022 How can true cultural diversity in Australia's media be achieved? And how much of the diversity that we see is simply 'performative'?

17.01.2022 It's halfway through NAIDOC week and I have witnessed wonderful yarns celebrating the continued connection of the First Nations to land, family, art and joy. And I particularly want to share this clip, because these three men are even more fabulous in real life, and I just LAUGH when I see them, and I watch their ABC clips multiple times ... Thank you Garret xxx

15.01.2022 Thank you Marisa Wikramanayake for the communication: 1. MEAA members please check your emails ASAP. 2. MEAA wants govt to provide funding directly to workers and organisations rather than forcing workers to have to go through the already overloaded social security system:... https://www.meaa.org//performing-arts-screen-and-media-ne/ 3. MEAA needs to hear from ALL workers (MEMBERS & NON MEMBERS) in the ARTS, CULTURAL, SPORTING and MEDIA sector if they have lost work. Everyone. They have a survey up at http://www.meaa.org/coronavirus-survey You can be ANONYMOUS. They need the data to lobby the government effectively and to have more information for staff to know who to help and how to help. The I Lost My Gig count is useful so please do keep submitting to that as well but it is also primarily for musicians and we need cross-sector data. So fill out the MEAA survey as well and pass it around. https://ilostmygig.net.au/ 4. MEAA has also pushed for shareholders to keep the AAP newswire open and running for as long as possible so that we can be sure of a) getting regular reliable coverage of the coronavirus and developments out where it is needed and b) ensuring that former AAP workers don't end up struggling right now. https://www.meaa.org/media/meaa-letter-to-aap-shareholders/ 5. MEAA staff are working very hard to make sure MEAA can help people. There will be more announcements forthcoming as things develop. MEAA are a small union with 67 staff nationally and they have to ensure that they can do their work but also be safe. 6. Writers and journalists, we will be tweeting and retweeting pitching opportunities and call-outs via the hashtag #paythewriters and from the @paythewriters account soon but we recommend you also follow @weischoice and @studyhallxyz who have been doing a lot of this. If you are an editor/organisation with such opportunities tweet at us and we will retweet it. If you need industrial assistance, email [email protected]. If you need membership assistance, call 1300 656 513 or email [email protected] Your elected and active delegates are around whatever your part of the sector is. If you have questions, COVID related or otherwise, please ask us. We discuss the issues and concerns you raise with us so if you have any, let us know. You don't need to be a member to chat to us. 10.01.2022 I regard the following protocols as essential industry standards for all Arts practice and projects: - a Code of Conduct that is regularly revised inline with new understanding and needs - a full budget line and role covering Cultural Competency in all projects, especially funded projects - ongoing Mental Health First Aid training and HR support for artists and crew - an Inclusion Rider for all projects that are written or created by clients... There are still areas that I can improve, especially ensuring that: - I amplify voices but do not speak for other's lived experience - I am able to provide multiple and updated resources to people who seek my clients, but are not aware of the wider industry in which my clients develop and create their work and community - I can consistently provide new ways to question gatekeepers and challenge assumptions https://www.istandwiththequarter.com/statement https://www.theguardian.com//these-are-the-faces-of-austra? #istandwiththequarter MEAA intertwine
