22.01.2022 As Covid-19 continues to cause great concern and disruption amongst the world, which certainly includes our very own Scottish community, with all facets of business facing never before seen challenges. One of the industries severely impacted are those of us in publishing, with many titles around the country already folding, and due to cancelled events, travel restrictions and impacts to Scottish businesses the Scottish Banner has lost a great deal of advertising revenue goin...g forward. In addition, Scottish festivals are currently not taking place causing a further major cut to revenue. I am hoping Scottish community organisations can rally their memberships and encourage them to subscribe or purchase the Scottish Banner. Every reader that buys their own print or digital copy makes a big difference to keeping the Scottish Banner viable. Many members may pick up copies at events which are currently cancelled, not feel comfortable going to newsagents each month and may be missing editions, or rely on a copy to be passed on to them from someone else. Please support The Scottish Banner.

11.01.2022 The High Commissioner Clan Lindsay was the Chieftain of the Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival on Saturday 1 June. It was a wonderful day.
11.01.2022 Fotheringham family The motto is in English perhaps reflecting a more recent grant of arms to the Laird of this family. Like the Crawford and Lindsay mottos, this one to reflects strength, endurance and steadfastness. I like to think these mottos reflect the nature of our clan folk - reliable, loyal, determined and hardy. Sadly, I had to put together the crest- badge from an illustration of the arms for this family. I think that the Fotheringham crest-badge may be somewhat ...difficult to come by - I have not seen it for sale anywhere, nor was I aware that there was one (but there is, because arms have been granted!). I hope our own Fotheringhams pick it up and include it on all their personal correspondence, its available to anyone of that name to use, inlcuding all the various spellings, and any descendants of Fotheringhams (if you e-mail me, I will send you the jpeg for your family use). The blazon reads: A Griffin segreant proper within a strap and buckle bearing the motto 'Be It Fast' The name Fotheringham comes from a parish in Inverarity in Angas and is said to be a corruption of Fotheringhay in Northamptonshire, which was held by the royal house of Scotland as part of the Honour of Huntingdon. The Fotheringhams of Ballindean, Perthshire, descend from the family at Powie in Angus. The latter descend from Henry de Fodringhay who received lands near Dundee from Robert II of Scotland (1371-1390). Teresa Bostle 2003 Crest Badge Arms of Fotheringham Tartan Fotheringham is regarded as a Sept of the Clan Lindsay.

05.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 almost all Scottish events in Australia in 2020 and now into 2021 are cancelled. Clan Lindsay Society of Australia was to have been represented at Bundanoon, the Celtic Festival at Glen Innes, Scottish Week in Sydney, Bonnie Wingham, Aberdeen Highland Games and many more. I have learned today that the Games at Richmond Tasmania in February 2021 have now been cancelled.... Even more importantly the event at Balcarres, Fife to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the arrival of the first Lindsay in Scotland, was postponed to August 2021. We hope to be represented by our Executive providing planes are flying by then.
