12.01.2022 Jarjum Stories Live! is a State Library of Queensland online program featuring First Nations storytellers, authors and creatives who share a First Nations story via SLQ kuril dhagun’s Facebook page. The sessions include a First Nations storybook reading followed by a creative, performative, or informative session such as an age-suitable talk, dance, song or creative workshop aiming to showcase the diversity of storytelling in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.... Jarjum Stories Live! was born from a desire to support schools during COVID-19 closures ensuring family opportunities to embed First Nations stories into ‘school from home’ and general lockdown periods encouraging children from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to continue to take part in literacy activities. Join Des and Michelle as they share the children's book Original Girl, written by Michelle Witheyman-Crump and illustrated by Vicki Duncan. The Original Girl is based on stories from Des and Michelle's daughter Emily’s childhood. It shares the story of an Australian preschool girl who looks for different ways to become an original girl until she discovers that she already is a Gamilaroi (Ab)original girl. Sharing a message of cultural strength and identity, in Gamilaraay and English.
