25.01.2022 Another restored item at our shop, an early Phaff treddle sewing machine Circa 1900 I revaneered the top and built the missing drawer, though the client had the original hardware for it.

23.01.2022 Christmas rush down to 15 to go with these 4 items finished yesterday A mixed bag of partial and full restorations, First is an Edwardian Kauri Pine washstand Circa 1910, next is an Australian Red Cedar Washstand circa 1890's, then a 2 Door Art Deco mens Robe, Circa 1950, and lastly a sold Corner Glasses Cabinet, Circa 1930's Half way through my list and only 6 days left

23.01.2022 A catchup on finished pieces at our shop. #1 A simple but good solid quality 1950's buffet, Made from Mountain Ash The customer had tried to restore themselves, sanded it back but then gave up before finishing, it was weathered and water stained from years of storage with no finish on it, but it came up pretty good after a re-sand and finish

22.01.2022 Back from the flames, these pieces were black as night, covered in black soot from a house fire, I had cleaned them up some months back but the client could still smell the smoke so I brought them back and refinished them and I'd say that I got it right this time round. These pieces would be considered cheap Pine furniture from around 1990's to early 2000's, but the thing is, the pine furniture today is built so cheaply, vaneer and particle board or craftwood frames, ...but these solid pine pieces are better quality by far, I passed a furniture shop on the weekend and looked at this lovely French country table set, the thing is, they are completely fake, pressed wood grained particle board structure , then sealed with a white primier, then tinted whatever colour combination you want, there's no real wood to restore in the future , as soon as yr kids damage it, yr stuck with it, and it's destined for the landfill. What a waste of materials So consider getting your old Pine furniture restored, ya it's not particularly cheap, but it's REAL solid wood See more

21.01.2022 Stinky job #2 God bless little puppys as they keep food on my table and the lights on overhead, This family heirloom was used for teething by the clients new puppy, I shaped and recarved and finished a new foot and now looks all good after a clean and wax over the original finish, Circa 1890's

20.01.2022 Just delivered this piece we finished restoring yesterday, Australian Red Cedar vanity, Circa 1900 The handles aren't period, but they still give it an elegant look

19.01.2022 The last of one clients pieces, a pair of 1950's Art Deco Lounge Chair Frames, rebiult and refinished and ready for the upholsterer

19.01.2022 This table we just finished restoring matches the 4 chairs we made into a pair of side tables a couple of posts back, again it's the clients family piece and is going to one of the children who is moving into a new house. Mountain Ash, Circa 1940's

18.01.2022 Catchup posts #3 Two Chaise Lounges for two clients Many times we will work on several similar items in a production line type fashion, they often will need the same steps to restore them, such as sanding the spindles lightly on the lathe, or similar clamping techniques to assemble them. So these two are a good example for that. The first one was painted brown, from a local client, Circa 1910, from Kauri Pine.... The second is the same period and wood, but was driven down from Sydney, about 7 hours drive away, they had seen us on the TV show Restoration Australia, eps 1, Keith Hall, (On Netflix locally here) and wanted us to restore it for them, something that is quite common now adays See more

17.01.2022 The last of one clients pieces, a pair of 1950's Art Deco Lounge Chair Frames, rebiult and refinished and ready for the upholsterer

16.01.2022 A cluster of jobs that are partial restorations. I refinished the top surfaces of this Oak sideboard, either American or European, Circa 1910, a Round Queensland Maple table with 2 leafs, Circa 1930, and an Cherrywood Oval Coffee Table, Circa 1990's I also freshened the color then polished the finish on the bases. It gives the pieces a fresh restored look without the full expense of a complete restoration. It dosn't always work but handy when it does

16.01.2022 Getting back into the new year by finishing up a few prepaid items from last year. A solid Blackwood Dining table with 1 large banquet leaf, Circa 1920 It originally had 2 small leafs, but I prefer to make them into one large leaf, visually it has less joints on the top, practically you can't add any extra chairs with only one leaf, you have to use both to get extra chairs, so why not just make one big leaf

15.01.2022 This is one of 2 chairs I built from scratch about 10 years ago, it's back in my shop for a minor repair on the foot. I copied her set of 6 existing chairs so she now has 8, made from solid Blackwood, leather upholstery, the originals are Circa 1910. It looks to have held up beautifully over the years of everyday use.

15.01.2022 Finished just in time to deliver on Christmas Eve, This Mountain Ash 1950's/60's China cabinet , a very happy customer to get their piece back for Christmas

13.01.2022 The last 2 weeks I've been working on long avoided tough stinky jobs, this Victorian Sewing Cabinet had an interior fit out, it was missing all the covered lids and tray, plus I recarved a wood worm eaten leg, then a recolour, clean and wax, The interior colours aren't right, always tough to photograph colours, but you get the idea right ? You can never charge enough for a job like this, but I'm happy with the outcome, Burl Walnut Victorian Sewing Cabinet, Circa 1885

13.01.2022 Some rebuilding and refreshing of this old American made sea chest, We also sanded the interior to brighten and freshen it up, Circa 1920

11.01.2022 The last of my Christmas rush pieces, though this one was due for a family 90th birthday today so it was finished up yesterday A 1960's outdoor bench, I carved the initials in the back as an extra treat for the father and mother in law

11.01.2022 A follow up to my last post, these are the clients chairs to go with her round Blackwood table, my style of furniture, though rhey are Australian built, they are in the English Arts and Crafts style, Circa 1915 Ready for the upholsterers

10.01.2022 Finished restoring this late 1940's grandaughter clock yesterday. At just under 5 ft tall it ticks all the cuteness buttons

10.01.2022 Just finished restoring this pair of 1990's Queen Anne bedside tables, now more in keeping with the 1960's look. They were made up of craftwood and particle board and then sprayed silver...so needless to say, they have another lease on life

07.01.2022 Something I love doing, rebuilding old pieces into something new. These old 1940's chairs weren't worth a dollar as they were, the client didn't need them but they had belonged to her family history , so I saved the legs and some bits and added some old recycled wood from salvaged furniture. Now to find a matched set of old side tables is near impossible, but now it is

06.01.2022 Restored this Australian Red Cedar Chest of Drawers, circa 1890's I'm fussy with rebuilding the drawers back to original, and they have to push in with my fingertips. I'm getting a lot of these drawers at present, Bring 'em on !

06.01.2022 Final catchup post #4 A stack of chairs, all different clients, like I had mentioned in the previous post, I restore chairs in a production line method as the processes are the same, so here is this groups pics The blonde Rockers are made from Murtyle, Circa 1950's, most of these were finished in a dark purple/red colour originally, which is hated by most now -adays, but underneath is a beautiful blonde wood that would blend with most anything. The last two pics is one of a 3 piece Danish longe suite, in this case made from Rosewood which I've never ever have seen in my whole career in the antique trade. The rest of the pieces are from the 1910 to 1930's, in Kauri and Blackwood, all have been delivered to the upholsterers for the next step in their journey

05.01.2022 #2 catchup post We restored and delivered this amazing South African Dining Suite. It's finished in clear coat to show off the natural wood grain. Probably made around the 1950's I figure , wood unknown as I have only restored a hand full of pieces from that part of the world. It's a cross between Blackwood and Rosewood , it's solid right through.... Many South Africans have moved to Australia over the last 20 years or more due to the deteriorating conditions there, and many have brought their furniture with them, it eventually circulates into the local areas, and my customer picked this suite up off the local internet and had us restore it. I pieces I have restore from this region are beautifully built to the best quality of workmanship. This suite will last for generations if looked after See more

04.01.2022 Second catchup restored post Circa 1900, inlaid burl walnut lap desk, it was missing all if it's interior so I built pretty well everything you see on the inside, then restored the exterior

03.01.2022 A few posts to show off sone items we finished rrstoring last week. First this early Edison wall phone, in Walnut Circa 1900

03.01.2022 Another piece we fully restored and delivered. English Crotch Mahogany Buffet, Circa 1950's (Later copy) Still it's beautifully made

03.01.2022 A before and after, recycled this old leaded window out of the customers door, happy with the finished look

01.01.2022 A pair of early kangaroo pressback chairs we just finished restoring this morning, circa 1915, always a treat to bring the chairs back to life
