23.01.2022 We can all be F.A.S.T. Heroes! This National Stroke Week (Aug 31-Sept 6) Stroke Foundation is urging Australians from all walks of life to become the next gener...ation of F.A.S.T. Heroes. A F.A.S.T. hero is anyone who can help save a life simply by knowing how to recognise the F.A.S.T. (Face. Arms. Speech and Time) signs of stroke. When a stroke happens, brain cells start dying at a frightening rate of up to 1.9 million per minute, but medical treatments can stop this damage. The message is simple Time is brain. The faster you can be treated after stroke, the more chance you have of making a full recovery. https://bit.ly/3fc8dMb #strokeweek2020

17.01.2022 Update from Dr Lucy Alexander What a year! We are pleased and relieved at the position that Tasmania is currently in with regard to Covid 19. As a practice we plan to maintain our current system until we see what happens when and if we open our borders. Currently as Tasmania has no cases it is a good time to do some routine health checks such as eye and foot checks, blood tests, and any regular GP or other specialist consults. Most of our patients have continued to come in to... the surgery as needed. We will continue to ask you if you have any symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat and so on. We remain very careful about not exposing other patients who may be immunocompromised to anyone who may be unwell. If you have any of the Covid19 symptoms at all PLEASE continue to book a phone consult first. Phone consults are bulk billed via Medicare until the end of September. We can still arrange with you to be seen in your car, or advise you to go for testing. We have had only the occasional patient who has said that "they know" that the sniffle or fever that they have "could not be Coronavirus" but this is not true. Some people have been positive with very minor symptoms. As a state we have done so well with people coming forward for testing. We congratulate all of you who have had a test so far- it is this community mindedness that keeps everyone safe. We are very pleased to announce that Dr Frank Meumann will return to the surgery from tomorrow for face to face consults. As many of his patients would know he has been working from home doing phone consults during this time but we are very pleased to have him back in person this week! We have opened up Hotdoc bookings again for "in surgery" consults. This was temporarily only open for phone consults but due to Tasmania going so well we feel that people can sensibly book online once more. Only some of our doctors take online bookings. Our books are full and so we are not able to take new patients at present. If you feel safer being seen in the carpark by one of our doctors because you are still self isolating, we will continue to offer this service. Please ask our staff when you book. We are very sad to announce that Dr Anita Green will soon be leaving us. She has worked at Claremont Village Medical Centre for more than 9 years now and as many of her patients may know, she travels a long way to do so. She has decided that she will make the change and work closer to home. Anita is currently on holidays but will return next week with her last working day being Thursday 16th July. We wish her all the best in the next stage of her life.

15.01.2022 GP Management plans We have had some queries about this and we hope this information is helpful: These are a plan that is written up by your usual GP so that you don't miss out on the important aspects of your care. We also call them "care plans" and medicare calls them a "721" which is their code/item number. It helps keep your reminders up to date in our computer notes and allows us to send out the text messages that alert you to overdue injections, blood tests, scans or ch...eck ups. They are written up for people who have longer term conditions such as diabetes, anxiety, thyroid problems, epilepsy, heart disease, depression, cancer and so on. They are a useful summary of your current medication, medical issues and what we are working on and are very useful to show other doctors or health professionals should you need to go to hospital because when you are unwell it is sometimes difficult to remember all this information accurately. Medicare requires your doctor to do this for people who want to access allied health services through a "team care arrangement" which is used for podiatry, exercise physiology, physiotherapy, dietician and psychology referrals. Medicare calls the "team care arrangement" an item "723", and the referral is called an Enhanced Primary Care referral. If you have a health condition that is likely to last more than 6 months and would like us to complete a care plan(GP management plan) for you please ask. If you have one already and would like another copy to keep with you, or you notice that it needs updating, for example it has an old medication on it that you no longer require, please ask us to update it in our computer and print you out a new one. 13.01.2022 You may be surprised to know that on average, adults sit for nine hours a day, which increases the risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Everyone from tod...dlers to older adults can improve their heart health by breaking up the length of time they sit during the day. The best place to start is ensuring you're meeting the recommended activity levels of 30 minutes on five or more days a week. The easiest way to meet these guidelines is by choosing an activity that you enjoy and know you can stick to! Other ways you can sit less and move more is: Limit your time on social media, TV, and phone When watching TV, take some breaks during commercials to walk around the house or do some housework Replace watching TV in the evening with taking a walk Try standing while you read or whilst completing easy tasks at work Take a break every 30 minutes to stand and stretch Consider using a sit-stand workstation Choose to do manual tasks where you can, such as washing your car by hand instead of using a drive-through car wash Looking for some inspiration to get up and moving? There is still time to sign up for MyMarathon via https://fal.cn/3aPHT

11.01.2022 Help protect young Australians from the hidden dangers of #vaping. Did you know the use of #ecigarettes among young Australians aged 18-24 has doubled over the ...past 3 years? Emerging research demonstrates that e-cigarettes pose known and unknown risks to human health and act as a gateway to traditional #cigarette smoking, placing a new generation at heightened risk of lung disease and lung cancer. We need your help today to protect generations of Australians tomorrow. Cast a vote for us in the nib foundation People’s Choice Vote to help us receive $40,000 to fund a campaign to promote change in young Australians’ attitudes around vaping. https://www.nib.com.au/the-ch/community/peoples-choice-vote #ProtectYoungAustralians

10.01.2022 Dr Anita Green was farewelled from our practice last week. This information is for patients who have been seeing her recently and are wondering about their ongoing care. Please share this to family/friends who you think may like this information who do not use Facebook. Patients who wish to continue to come to Claremont Village medical Centre will all be welcome to do this. We don't have a new doctor and it will be difficult to recruit during the pandemic. However our other d...octors are working extra to cover. If you have seen one of our doctors in the past you may request to see that doctor, or our staff will book you with someone who has appointments available. The practice that she has moved to is called General Practice Plus. It is a practice with different branches -including South Hobart, Sandy Bay, Kingston and Newtown. Anita is working from the Newtown branch. If you wish to move to that surgery you can request your summary from our staff. It may be sensible to phone their surgery to check that you can transfer. You may then collect a copy of your summary from our reception and your file here will be closed. This allows us to take a new patient in your place. Please phone to arrange your notes in advance of needing them as we will need time to arrange this. See more

10.01.2022 We are all feeling extremely concerned for the people of Victoria, NSW and now Queensland. We are not helpless in this situation- we can prepare ourselves and our families, friends and neighbors for when this virus reaches Tasmania. It very likely will. This YouTube clip is the reality of why we need to be scared. Please watch it. While we are virus free in Tassie we should all be putting good experiences in our emotional energy banks so we have nice things to think about if we have to lockdown again. And yes, spend money in our community if you have any to spare because the more our local businesses thrive, the less likely we are to need to open our borders.

08.01.2022 Medicare Covid extra payment ceases Thursday October 1st. From today the Covid bulkbilling incentive payment from Medicare will cease. Medicare will now go back to contributing only $38.75 towards each GP 15 minute consult for non health care card holders. This unfortunately means we will have to go back to billing all consults including phone consults and car consults for those who do not hold a low income health care card. We are sorry that this payment has ceased but it is out of our control. If you feel strongly about it we encourage you to contact your Federal Member of Parliament about it. Our staff are happy to answer queries about how we will organise payment for these consults by phone now.

05.01.2022 Due to the risk of Covid-19 we need to limit the number of people in the practice at any time. We ask that only patients and one parent/carer attend for an appointment. Any other people presenting at the practice will be asked to wait outside.... We thank you for co-operating and helping to keep everyone safe.
