25.01.2022 Tasmanians need to be prepared for challenging fire weather conditions towards the end of this week as hot temperatures, north-westerly winds and low humidity is expected to push the fire danger to severe in parts of the state. The forecast has triggered a total fire ban to be declared for Thursday and Friday for all municipalities in the south, and Northern Midlands and Break O’Day in the north. A total fire ban means it is illegal to light or to cause a fire to start in the... open air. This includes (but is not limited to) incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues. The total fire ban applies to the following municipalities from 2am Thursday 30 January until 2am Saturday 1 February: Brighton, Break O'Day, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Northern Midlands, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman. More information on Total Fire Bans and incidents in your area can be found at www.fire.tas.gov.au or by listening to ABC Radio.

25.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

24.01.2022 A house fire in Glenorchy last night was caused by a clothes dryer, destroying a garage, and $100,000 damage. Some tips for safe clothes dryer use: clean the ...lint filter after each use - lint is highly flammable and is the cause of many dryer-related fires. make sure your dryer is well ventilated. always run the dryer to the end of the cool down cycle - fires have been caused when the dryer has been stopped before the end of the cycle, causing the items to keep heating up and combusting while they are in a pile. For more information about how to stay stafe this winter visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

24.01.2022 IMPORTANT CHRISTMAS EVE LOLLY RUN ANNOUNCEMENT The Brigade has reached the very difficult decision to not hold this year’s lolly run. Due to ongoing COVID restrictions and safety measures, the brigade has been unable to determine a safe way that the lolly run could be undertaken this year. We understand that this is going to be upsetting for the families of the greater Claremont area. This decision has not been made lightly as this is an event that all members of our brigade look forward to. We hope to be back in 2021 bigger and better! We wish all of the families in the Claremont area a safe and festive Christmas and New Year.

20.01.2022 Fuel Reduction Burn - Goat Hills, North - 9th November 2020 Weather permitting, the Tasmania Fire Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Monday 9th... The total area of this burn will be approximately 155 hectares, and is likely to take 3-4 days to complete. Smoke may persist some days afterward depending on wind conditions. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. 18.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared an end to the fire permit statewide from 2am tomorrow (Thursday 26 March). This means that anyone in Tasmania intending to li...ght a private fuel reduction burn will no longer require a fire permit to do so. Even though permits are no longer required, landowners who plan to light burns on their property should: be mindful of the weather be prepared with an adequate water supply have access to firefighting equipment be physically capable consult with the owners of neighbouring properties, particularly those with vulerable crops such as vineyards. This update brings the north and south in line with the north west which had the permit period revoked a fortnight ago. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to and environmental laws which govern smoke emissions. Property owners planning to burn on their land should visit fire.tas.gov.au for further information. Call 1800 000 699 to register their burn to prevent an unnecessary visit from a local brigade.

15.01.2022 Firefighters wear heavy-duty protective clothing when fighting a fire. But what about ordinary people protecting their homes from fires? This is the minimum lev...el of protective clothing you should have. Make sure you tune in to watch part two of the new ABC Your Planet series ‘Big Weather (and how to survive it)’ tonight at 8.30pm on ABC TV + iview. This three-part series delivers an urgent and entertaining message of how our weather is changing and what we can do to survive it. #BigWeather #ReadyTogether

11.01.2022 Fuel Reduction Burn - Glenorchy If you're in the Greater Hobart area, you'll see smoke coming from Goat Hills at the back of Glenorchy this weekend. We'll... have lots of resources on the ground from the Fuel Reduction Program to ensure the burn is appropriately managed. The Goat Hills burn will be around 155 hectares in total and will burn for the whole weekend. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. This objective of this burn is to minimise the bushfire risk to life and property, particularly areas south of Glenorchy, including Hobart. It will serve to slow the spread of any fire from the Collinsvale Road area where fires have started in the past. The Goat Hills area also has significant infrastructure assets including a major communication tower and critical electricity transmission lines which will be protected by this burn. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for the smoke. Advice is available from the Department of Health and Asthma Australia websites: http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth//air/bushfire_smoke and https://asthma.org.au/about-asthma/triggers/bushfire-smoke.

10.01.2022 Daylight savings ends tonight, don’t forget to turn the clocks back and test your smoke alarms. #Workingsmokealarmssavelives #Turnandtest

08.01.2022 The weather at this time of the year is fickle. One day the weather can be perfect for burning and a couple of days later it's warmer and the wind picks up, ca...using those burns to escape. TFS has seen an increase in escaped burns on private property over the last couple of weeks. We encourage property owners to use favourable weather conditions to burn and reduce fuels to mitigate their bushfire risk, but this must be done safely . If you're planning to burn on your property you must be adequately prepared for the size of the burn and for the weather conditions you are burning in. You should also keep checking it in the days after it's been extinguished.

08.01.2022 A reminder there is a Total Fire Ban today and tomorrow for all municipalities in the south, and Break O'Day and Northern Midlands municipalities in the north.

05.01.2022 Dear friends of Eleanor We are extremely relieved to let you know that Eleanor finished her treatment in Columbus, Ohio yesterday after a clear scan of her brai...n and spine. We couldn't be prouder of Eleanor and her enormous achievement. Eleanor rang her end of treatment in Columbus bell loud and proud in front of us, her number one fans and her wonderful oncology team. We will always treasure this moment. Unfortunately the nature of treatment is to keep moving forward and attempting to keep disease under control and we haven't yet had the chance to reflect on the last five months. Some of the best and worst times we have endured. Our time in Ohio has abruptly come to an end. With the Coronavirus situation escalating, we have to urgently leave. Eleanor's immune system is low and this therefore makes her very vulnerable to the virus. We have taken every possible measure to keep Eleanor, George and ourselves as safe as we can while still having to fly to Melbourne. In a time of uncertainty we would like to thank you all for continuing to support us in giving Eleanor the best chance of cure. We feel part of a very special community of people. When we arrive in Melbourne we expect to self isolate to protect others and Eleanor and will then be starting Eleanor's full body disease control at The Royal Children's Hospital. Neuroblastoma is relentless and while we are celebrating clear brain and spine scans we must remain realistic that Eleanor still has a long journey ahead. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and please keep us in your thoughts as we attempt to keep Eleanor and George safe on our flight to Australia. Lots of love from the Oakley family

04.01.2022 Hazard icons across the country have a new consistent look. The new Australian Warning System introduces several changes to the way the community will be notifi...ed about hazards. We're rolling out the first stage of the changes to the Australian Warning System for bushfire in Tassie today. The changes will include the way bushfire warnings are displayed on the TFS website. From today, consistent colours will be used for: Advice (yellow), Watch and Act (orange); and Emergency Warning (red) The icon shapes will also change on maps from diamonds to triangles. While the colours and icons change, the meanings of the levels do not change. The changes are designed to bring consistency to the way warnings are displayed across Australia. Over time more states will use the new colours and icons and they will be used for other hazards like floods and storms. Further changes will occur in Tasmania in 2021, including enhancements to our warning messages. The Australian Warnings System is based on community research and good practice, in terms of what communities recognise and what gets people to take action during an emergency.

03.01.2022 We are set up and ready to go for our Australia Day fundraising BBQ at Bunnings Glenorchy. We have eftpos available as well so stop by and grab a snag and a drink. We also have members ready and able to answer any fire safety and bushfire questions
