21.01.2022 Hey there Pinocchio! Did you know a Dentist knows when you tell them little white lies? We understand that when it comes to flossing, going that extra mile can be daunting - especially when you just want to go to bed! But, we guarantee its worth it. So for strong, beautiful teeth that last, put in that bit of extra effort to floss daily to remove hiding food particles in between your teeth... No more flossing fibs! Heres how to floss properly: ... Taking a length of floss about 40 cm long wrapping one end around each of your middle fingers Hold floss tightly between your thumbs and forefingers, then gently guide the floss between two teeth until it reaches the gum line Move floss into a C shape on the side of one tooth and rub the floss up and down gently, pressing it against the side of the tooth Repeat this process for all your teeth, taking care to floss behind the back teeth as well.
21.01.2022 Don’t let your oral health fall behind. You wouldn’t miss a doctors appointment, so don’t skip out on your annual dental health checkups. A little time taken once a year for your checkup will save you a lot of time later down the line. You’ll be able to catch and prevent any potential problems before they spiral into something bigger!
21.01.2022 Happy Monday! It’s smiles all round behind the front desk today. That leads us on to our big question for the day When was the last time you came in for your annual checkup? With the chaos of this year it's easy to forget how quickly time has passed. So if you’re waiting for a reminder to book in, this is it! These happy faces are here and waiting to hear from you.
20.01.2022 **Please see our most recent post for an update on services** As we navigate through this uncertain climate we would like to assure you that Claremont Dental is continuing to see new and existing patients who require urgent dental care. What does this mean for you? ... We are currently limited in the services we can provide to patients and will only be able to see those who need urgent care. This includes: Toothache Abscess Broken teeth Dental trauma Extensive decay Unfortunately we will be unable to provide scheduled regular check ups or cleans, non-urgent fillings or aesthetic dental procedures until a later date. If you have a routine treatment booked with us over the next month we will be in touch to notify you of the postponement of your appointment and will rebook as soon as we are able. For those needing urgent dental treatment, please understand that for health and safety reasons we will be asking a few questions when you book. If our phone is unattended, a recorded message will be available with instructions for patients who are experiencing a dental emergency. To keep you informed of any changes and developments, we will continue to regularly update our website. Stay safe and well. The Claremont Dental Team

16.01.2022 Preventive care is always the best approach, but you can actually reverse the early stages of tooth decay. With some help, your enamel can actually repair itself in the very early stages of decay. If you suspect that you might have early decay, book an appointment right away to tackle it before fillings are needed.
16.01.2022 Jingle Bells! Christmas is upon us already. We will be closed from Thursday, December 24th and will reopen on Monday, January 4th. So we’re bright and on the ball for 2021, we’ll be taking a well earned break over the holiday season to relax and recharge. To avoid any toothy troubles that could arise over this period, plan ahead by booking an appointment before December 24th.
15.01.2022 How cute is this gif by Michelle Porucznik! But, cuteness aside, it's a helpful reminder of a common dental issue that many people don’t even realise is a problem overbrushing! Yep, you can have too much of a good thing, even when it comes to your oral health. In fact, over brushing your teeth can lead to: Pain and bleeding Gum recession Sensitive teeth ... So how do you avoid this? Brush twice daily unless directed otherwise Use light pressure and brush in gentle, circular motions Place your toothbrush bristles on a 45 degree angle, just under the gumline. 15.01.2022 Were back and better than ever! Claremont Dental is now open Monday-Saturdays with all regular procedures to resume. To do it right, and for your health and safety we will ask all patients to: Have their temperature taken upon arrival Use hand sanitiser both when entering and leaving the reception area Reschedule if you or anyone you live with has shown cold or flu symptoms or returned from abroad in the last 14 days.
15.01.2022 Apart from regular checkups, these are the signs that your little one needs a trip to the dentist: A constant bad taste in their mouth Extra sensitive teeth Pain when eating or drinking Bleeding or inflamed gums.
14.01.2022 A reflective reminder from Healthline on the power of meditation! We’re big champions of all-round wellbeing, not just oral health, and find that meditation is one of the best ways to support a wellness-focused lifestyle.
14.01.2022 Buzz off. Bad breath can be a social self-esteem killer, but in most cases, you can fix it with subtle adjustments to your daily brushing routine. Clean your whole mouth, not just your teeth: plaque and bacteria can quickly build up on your tongue and gums too so make sure you gently clean your tongue, inner cheeks and the roof of your mouth Floss daily: get rid of sneaky food particles in between your grooves Use a good mouthwash: freshen your breath, help clean hard to brush areas, remineralise your teeth, target any bacteria missed with brushing, and reduce acid levels in your mouth.
14.01.2022 Snoring and sleep apnoea. Theyre not exactly ideal for a great nights rest. Your dentist can help with that. Whether youre exhausted from interrupted sleep, your partner is fed up or youre stressed that you cant find a cure. Dont smother the problem with a pillow, its time to #openup about whats really going on and how you can get to the bottom of it.

13.01.2022 Back off Jamie Hyneman and the Mythbusters crew, we’ve got these dental deceptions under control. Consider these dental myths busted! Brush right after eating: False! In fact, you should never brush right after eating as your teeth will be slightly weakened due to the change of PH in your mouth from different foods. It's best to wait a little while after dinner to brush, or at the very least have a cup of water in between. The harder you brush the better: Also false!... Brushing too hard can cause more damage than good and can cause your gum lines to recede or damage your enamel. You can inherit unhealthy teeth and gums: Yep, another false fact! Your oral health directly correlates to how well you look after your teeth, whether or not your parents had issues with decay, doesn’t mean your mouth will be the same. Diet drinks are better for your teeth: You guessed it, this is also false! Sugar isn’t the only culprit behind decay and damage, the acidity in sugar-free soft drinks or natural sweeteners used can cause just as much damage. The best rule of thumb here is that any kind of soft drink should be consumed only as a treat, and in moderation.
12.01.2022 We love coffee almost as much as we love healthy, happy smiles. What we dont love, is stained teeth from the high tannin count. Were only human, so cutting out our beloved brew is simply out of the question, but luckily there is a simple trick to help. Just drink ONE glass of water before and after your caffeine fix to help neutralise the acids and tannins left behind. Thats all it takes.
11.01.2022 Dentist, hypnotherapist or both The Claremont Dental team recently got to learn all about hypnotherapy from Dr. Dom. If you didnt know, Dom studies it outside of dentistry to provide an extra level of care for patients who find the dentist a bit scary (yes both adults and children!). We all had a lot of fun as he showed us a DVD on hypnosis from the 1980s and he even tried some relaxation techniques on us. Thats certainly one way to make sure we all like him
10.01.2022 Were here for young, not so young and everyone in between. Providing dental care for all ages is essential. We advise introducing your child to dental care at a young age and bringing them along on your appointments. This will build their trust with our dentists and nurses and set them up for a lifetime of healthy teeth.
09.01.2022 The ultimate sidekick to help you beat plaque and gum issues whilst keeping your breath minty fresh? Mouthwash. With so many different brands out there, its hard to know which one is actually good, and safe. (Hint: its more than just a minty taste). Healthline recommends you should look for these ingredients: Fluoride: helps prevent decay and strengthens your enamel Essential oils: menthol (peppermint), eucalyptus and thymol (thyme) help freshen your breath plus conta...in antifungal and antibacterial properties Cetylpyridinium chloride: targets bacteria and helps prevent bad breath from returning Chlorhexidine: tackles tricky plaque and prevents gingivitis Carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide: makes your pearly whites, well, pearly white. 08.01.2022 Fight off that furry feeling. And no, we dont mean when you forget to shave. Now that we have your attention, we want to use it to talk about the other fluffy devil: Plaque. Its some serious stuff - the acid-producing bacteria that causes plaque and calculus have the ability to destroy the hard, protective coatings of your teeth leading to cavities and with it can come long term pain and sensitivity. Avoid the fuzz by taking these three simple steps: Brush and floss twice daily Manage your diet and lower sugar intake Stay on top of regular dental checkups.

07.01.2022 Were back! Claremont Dental is reopening Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 5 on a limited basis. With the positive scaleback of COVID-19 restrictions we are reintroducing a select group of services and currently contacting patients whose eligible appointments were previously postponed. ... Appointment Types Although some restrictions have been lifted, social distancing rules are still enforced. This means we are currently limited to the types of dental procedures we are allowed to perform. At this stage only Dr Dominic Etheridge will be seeing patients for eligible treatments, while hygiene appointments with our therapists will be limited to priority cases. Safety For your health and safety we will ask you a few questions when booking your appointment, then again at the surgery (with a questionnaire also provided for you to fill out.) All patients are required to use hand sanitiser both when entering and leaving the reception area. Before any dental procedures are performed you will also be given an antiseptic mouth rinse. We are currently spreading out appointments across the day with reduced staff on reception. To minimise the number of people in the building we ask anyone accompanying patients to wait in their car. For your reassurance, as a QIP Accredited Dental Practice we meet the highest level of infection control. In addition to this we are sanitising all benchtops and door handles through the day, while our EFTPOS machine is sanitised after every use. Bookings To make a booking call us on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Alternatively leave us a message and well call you back. For all dental emergencies please follow the prompts on our answering machine. We look forward to seeing you in our surgery soon.
07.01.2022 Even the most routine brushers have experienced it. Bleeding gums. Caused by gingivitis (an inflammatory response to plaque and calculus), its easy to beat with good brushing and oral hygiene. Heres a quick refresh of the basics: Brush twice daily for 2-3 minutes: Yes even if youre really tired Tip: Dont brush too hard Limit sugar intake: The only thing that loves sugary treats more than us is plaque and calculus Drink 2-3 litres of water daily: Not only is it good for your overall health, but water helps wash away any remaining sugar or food in your mouth Floss daily (yes you hear it all the time but it really is important). Flossing removes the little food particles and plaque caught between your teeth that your brush cant reach.
06.01.2022 Make your pearly whites pop with Zoom Whitening. Its fast, pain free and completely safe! Save $120 on Zoom Whitening, with every full dental exam and hygiene in September! What are you waiting for?

Dr Jana will be available for appointments until the 13th January 2021. December is always busy (and we will be closed from Dec 24th to Jan 3rd) so to avoid disappointment, we suggest you book in with Jana early if you want to see her before she makes the move.
