21.01.2022 CARE OF OUR CLAREMONT COURSE Don’t be like Donald and please look after our great course. Our bunkers look sensational after some great work from our Course Staff. Remember, when raking bunkers, rake in the direction the bunker faces the pin and then PLACE (not throw) the rake in the bunker so that it is lying in the direction of play. This will assist our greenkeepers and your fellow golfers. More information on how to care for our course is available in the following link. https://assets.ctfassets.net//Care_of_the_course_-_Divots_

All ladies thoroughly enjoyed their mini holiday and were well practiced in their raking skills by the end of the second day (or maybe that was just me). The weather was magnificent on Tuesday but a tad windy for our game on Wednesday but that certainly didn’t deplete our enthusiasm. Much discussion was had over dinner on which course was our favourite but I would say both are equally challenging. I think we might be back there sooner rather than later to repeat the challenge. Next week’s competitions include a stableford round on Tuesday and the Summer Cup 18 or 27 hole stroke on Thursday. Remember to get your names down in an early time slot if you are planning to play 27 holes. Good luck all.

Hes played golf every day since his retirement 15 years ago. One day he arrives home looking downcast. Thats it, he tells his wife. Im giving up golf. My eyesight has become so bad that once I hit the ball I couldnt see where it went. His wife sympathises and makes him a cup of tea. As they sit down she says, Why dont you take my brother with you and give it one more try. Thats no good, sighs Arthur, your brother is 85. He cant help. He maybe 85, says the wife, but his eyesight is perfect. So the next day Arthur heads off to the golf course with his brother-in-law. He tees up, takes a mighty swing and squints down the fairway. He turns to the brother-in-law and says, Did you see the ball? Of course I did! Answers the brother-in-law. I have perfect eyesight. Where did it go? Arthur asks. I dont remember.

16.01.2022 CGC Player Profile - Claire Creed This month’s player profile features Claire Creed. Claire has just this year retired from our Ladies Committee after a stint of 20 years and should be congratulated on her dedicated service to our Club. Claire has an unsurpassed knowledge of not only the game of golf but the history of our Club and is our very approachable go to person when we need information on how to run our events program. She is our voice of reason and we are sure s...he will continue to have a huge input into our club for many more years to come. Claire has just become a grandmother for the first time and we know she is relishing this new role and her extra spare time will no doubt be put to good use. Some of Claire’s achievements which should be mentioned include: Member of Div 2 State Pennant Final winning team 2015 Garrett Cup Winner 2004 Summer Cup Winner 2013/2014 Foursomes Championships Winner with sister Sue 2018/2019 Ladies Committee President x 5 Ladies Captain x 2 Player Profile Born in Hobart I started playing golf when probably 9 or 10 on the family farm. My parents played golf at the old Tea Tree course and I went along every weekend. I joined as soon as I could (12 years old) and played until I was 17 (drivers licence and car came along) and started playing netball. After many years injuries were taking too long to heal and impacting on life so when, 25 years ago, Helen Booth encouraged me to return to golf I was ready. I really enjoy the friendships and the fact it is a team sport as well as individual. The exercise is important too. For new players don’t expect too much of yourself too soon. Relax and enjoy yourself. What I had, and still have to remember is, don’t swing too big and too fast. (for me this can be very difficult). My best memory is winning the Division 2 state pennant final at Royal Hobart. An awesome feeling, even though I didn’t win my game. So proud of our girls. I have never had a hole in one. The closest I have come is an eagle on the first at Claremont. A very good way to start a round. Family is very important to me and I also love our holidays exploring Australia. We also spend many weekends at car racing & associated social events. We have a holiday home on the waterfront at Primrose Sands which is fantastic. I also love visiting the outback Australia towns, some only 2 or 3 homes and a pub (very important). I can’t pass on chocolate unfortunately, and it goes very well with a glass of Red. Something you don’t know about me: for many years I was a very quiet and shy person (what happened????).
16.01.2022 It’s taken 4 years but just goes to show you should never give up, a big congratulations to Leigh Smith scoring a hole-in-one on the 11th today. He looks pretty pleased with himself and so he should, well done Leigh.
16.01.2022 Due to rain (63mm) the course is closed today . There are also No Carts tomorrow ( Wednesday ) . A decision will be made later today regarding play on Wednesday ! Please check the Our Golf booking page for the latest information .

07.01.2022 Could the Committee please consider these rule changes for 2021 and happy new year to all. For senior golfers: PGA RULE CHANGES IN EFFECT FOR GOLFERS AGE 50+... Rule 9k.34 If a tree is between the ball and the hole, and the tree is deemed to be younger than the player, then the ball can be moved without penalty. This is so because this is simply a question of timing; when the player was younger, the tree was not there so the player is being penalized because of his age. Rule 1.a.5 A ball sliced or hooked into the Rough shall be lifted and placed on the Fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the Rough with no penalty. The senior player should not be penalized for tall grass which ground keepers failed to mow. Rule 2.d.6 A ball hitting a tree shall be deemed NOT to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no place in a scientific game. The senior player must estimate the distance the ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree, and play the ball from there. Rule 3.B.3 There shall be no such thing as a lost ball. The missing ball is on or near the course and will eventually be found and pocketed by someone else, thereby making it a stolen ball. The senior player is not to compound the felony by charging himself with a penalty. Rule 4.c.7 If a putt passes over a hole without dropping, it is deemed to have dropped. The Law of Gravity supersedes the Rules of Golf. Rule 5. Putts that stop close enough to the cup that they could be blown in, may be blown in. This does not apply to balls more than three inches from the Hole. No one wants to make a mockery of the game. Rule 6.a.9 There is no penalty for so-called out of bounds. If penny-pinching golf course owners bought sufficient land, this would not occur. The senior player deserves an apology, not a penalty. Rule 7.G.15 There is no penalty for a ball in a water hazard, as golf balls should float. Senior players should not be penalized for any shortcomings of the manufacturers. Rule 8.k.9 Advertisements claim that golf scores can be improved by purchasing new golf equipment. Since this is financially impractical for many senior players, one-half stroke per hole may be subtracted for using old equipment. Please advise all your senior friends of these important rule changes. Golf is...above all...a game of integrity.

02.01.2022 LADIES RESULTS 18th AUGUST After several heavy downpours over the past week and enduring the very muddy course conditions on both competition days, it did occur to me that someone should invent gumboots for golfers. Might be worth considering for us ladies in the current conditions, what do you think?
