21.01.2022 Whilst our Museum continues to be closed one of our Volunteers is regularly updating our website with interesting stories and insights into local history and the important local pioneers. Check this out

21.01.2022 At our anniversary morning tea on Sunday 27 September, NTSA Project Officer Kate Joannu spoke about the Podcasting initiative the Trust has piloted - the first National Trust in Australia to do so. Clare and Gawler Branch volunteers have been busy researching and recording podcasts on all manner of topics. You can find them at https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/our-town-podcast-series/

18.01.2022 Well the first day of Summer turned out to be mid winter - cold, wet and very windy. This did not hamper our spirits but we did have to pack away our Museum display mid morning as the wind and rain was causing havoc and all the outside stalls had to pack up around noon as it was not improving. It was a financial success though considering we were there for only half the intended time. Fortunately took some photographs at the beginning when we had set up.

15.01.2022 Before iPads, this was a must have item on a girls list! Pop in to our museum on Sundays to explore our past and these treasures.

12.01.2022 Mince pies packed ready for the morning - visit us early as I think our goodies will fly out the door quickly - well not literally as we will be outside! However the cool weather will keep everything fresh. See you there

10.01.2022 As you are all now aware, preparations for the likely community spread of the COVID-19 corona virus are now being encouraged by Federal and State Governments. The safety and well-being of our volunteers, visitors and staff is always the first priority for the National Trust of South Australia. In consideration of the latest news relating to the potential spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the declaration of a public health emergency by the Premier, it has now been re...commended that: All National Trust venues be closed to the public for a period of two weeks until 30 March in the first instance; As the situation is changing on a daily basis this decision will be reviewed and further information provided The Clare Police Station and Courthouse is therefore now Closed until further notice.

10.01.2022 We had a very special visit from the Gillen family this week, who donated some lovely items to the Clare Museum including some scales that were used in the family shop in the Main Street. It was a general store and was run by three generations of Gillens. The Gillen family certainly left their mark both in Clare and elsewhere - one early Gillen was a MP (he died actually in parliament at about 36) and another of that generation was involved with the Overland Telegraph Station at Alice Springs, as well as being a highly regarded anthropologist. A third brother ran the shop and was involved with almost everything in the town, and was Mayor for a while as well. For more information about the Gillen family, visit our website https://www.claremuseum.com/post/the-gillen-family-in-clare

08.01.2022 The Clare NT Museum is re opening on 4 October - with a new Volunteer - 'Jack the Drunken Shearer'. A talented local quilter made the dummy for us and a friend of two of our volunteers has drawn the face. All he needs now is a hat - an old, battered farmer's hat if any of you have one you could donate, Jack would be most grateful. Our opening hours for the rest of this year will be Sundays 10.00 am to 3.00 pm

07.01.2022 While our museum is currently closed, our volunteers have not been idle. Visit our website for some fascinating insights into local characters, including the generous Diana Christison, who donated land that is still enjoyed by the community today, including Neagles Rock reserve, Pioneer Park and the land where the Discovery Park is now located https://www.claremuseum.com/post/generous-mrs-christison

05.01.2022 Only 1 more sleep before the Christmas Fair. Volunteers delivered more sweet treats - so don't miss out, come see our stall - get an idea of what gifts people might have received in Christmases past and purchase some goodies.

04.01.2022 Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the old Police Station and Court House becoming a National Trust Museum. The grand celebrations planned had been postponed due to COVID. However, the Volunteers met for a morning tea so that Geoff Brock, MP for Frome, could present the SA Premier's 2020 Award for volunteering to Val Tilbrook. Val has volunteered at the Museum since 1982, so this was a well deserved recognition of her services.

03.01.2022 We have some fascinating old fashioned medicine in our museum.. Sometimes we wonder whether the remedy might have been worse than the symptoms!
