18.01.2022 So what has been happening to our club during the past 6 months? Thanks to Covid19 not too much paddling wise but we did take part in the following: During April members working in teams, took part in the Isolation Fitness Madness challenge which necessitated us to complete a different set of exercises each day - such exercises included: squats, lunges, bicept curls, calf raises, star jumps etc etc. our leader, the keyboard warrior was pretty tough on us! ...Star jumps definately not my most favourite.. Next in May we undertook the push-up Challenge in support of Mental Health week/month, again working in teams The Chief of Push-ups (CofPU)set the daily number of push-ups based on a specific Mental Health fact. Each team was allocated a number of push-ups to do, could be 180 or 155 or whatever mental health fact our CofPU chose to use. The challenge was to complete 3046 push-ups in 21 days - groan. During this time our DJ Bruce chose some fantastic music each day to get us in the mood. songs such as Its Good News Week - Hedgehoppers Anonymous or Glad All Over - Dave Clark 5. Eve of Destruction - Barry McGuire! You know, all those great songs of the 60s-70s! You would be singing along whilst you killed yourself doing push-ups. Finally the fun bit. A virtual tour of Australia. Travelling anti-clockwise we departed the northern rivers, travelled up through Qld (before the borders closed LOL) across to the NT, down the West Coast from the north to Margaret River then across the Nullabor to SA where we checked out the wineries etc then home. It was a fantastic trip with lots of information about our stopovers including the likes of where we were staying, watering holes, menus for dinner to chose from historical details etc . Twas such great fun. Then back home - once we were given the all clear to re-commence our favourite past-time namely paddling, safety procedures were put in place to enable us to get back out on the water. How wonderful it has been since the beginning of August to do exactly that. Dare I say it - Bloody marvelous! . Paddles Up from a well exercised and well travelled team See more
10.01.2022 Dear all, what a year 2020 has been! A year where it was important to look after ourselves, but more important after each other. A year where nothing was natural, where all was uncertain and unpredictable. A year where club training and regattas were cancelled. A year where a Pandemic limited us in our freedom, where physical contact changed to virtual contact and where travelling around got complicated. And yet, here we are, on the doorstep of 2021. A year where a vaccine h...as been made available. Hopefully we will all get vaccinated so that we are protected and a hug will be a hug again instead of an emoji. A year where we can literally embrace the human spirit and where we can be together, celebrate together and stand together as one family, the Dragon Boating Family! I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy 2021!
