24.01.2022 I hear this type of unfair comparison a lot. There simply is no fair comparison to be made in this regard - ever. Chances are you are comparing the tip of your own iceberg to the full body of others. Minimising what we are experiencing can provide a kind of permission to avoid facing and feeling the true depth of our emotions. ... And that is totally understandable as this type of avoidance is fuelled with a fear that if we allow ourselves to feel it may be too painful to bare. That we will not be able to cope, or have the strength or to even know how deep the pain will go and if it will stop. We fear losing control. Avoiding emotional pain prevents healing. With the right support you are strong enough to feel the pain and to heal the underlying emotional wound. If you hear yourself saying "It is not that bad" but it actually does feel bad or the feelings persist and feel out of context, then you could benefit from the support psychotherapy provides. 18.01.2022 What is Psychotherapy? Psychotherapy is an exploration of the parts and personas that make up 'you' as a whole. We all have parts of ourself we identify with and choose to show the world and we also have parts that we don't like and push away.... These parts of us are pushed away are often disowned and not given a voice because these parts have issues, they have wounds, they are not 'good'. But their presence is felt through our emotions, the hard emotions like anger, shame, hate, envy... Psychotherapy provides a safe space to enter these excommunicated parts of ourself and give them a voice, hear them, meet their unmet needs, nurture and invite them back in. 15.01.2022 As children we hear a lot of these from those in care provider roles. "DON'T, SHOULDN'T, MUSTN'T" As children we hear them , we believe them and don't question them. They are programmed limitations introduced to keep us safe in the absence of the care provider. ... As adults these programs may no longer be serving us as they once did, or maybe they did not serve us as children. However they are still running, but they are running without us being consciously aware. As adults these old programs, running stealth in the background, can be the core of very powerful self limiting beliefs. So as adults - listen and try and bring awareness to anything within you that is limiting your potential. Question it with curiosity, look for the underlying program and know that you have the choice to rewrite it. These old programs are challenging to identify and can be the cause of inner conflict.
