24.01.2022 A MESSAGE FOR ALL DOG OWNERS We have just been informed from the Tasmanian Animal Hospitals that they have had two positive cases of the Parvovirus in dogs from the Eastern shore in recent days. Parvovirus is a highly contagious disease and is a serious threat to canine health. It is important to ensure your dogs are up to date with all vaccinations if leaving your residence. Puppies are at risk of the virus until their last vaccination so please practice safe socialisin...g. Tune into 96.1FM Hobartfm Community Radio at 10:30am each Tuesday for a 10-minute program focused on key topics including mental health and self-care. Series three is underway and features guest speakers and topics including physical and mental health, volunteering, exercising at home, peer education as well as tips on living well locally in Clarence and Glenorchy. ... The Community Development team at Clarence City Council with Glenorchy City Council and Tasmanian Health Service Health Promotion, have worked together on this initiative to keep our older community involved in their regular program of activities through new ways.



22.01.2022 TEMPORARY TRACK CLOSURES CLARENCE MTB PARK Please be advised that the Dirt Devils will be hosting a gravity endure event on Thursday 26 November at the Clarence Mountain Bike Park. There will be temporary track closures on the Dinosaur, Downhill and Corkscrew Tracks between 6pm and 8pm while racing is on.... K’s Choice will be used by participants in an uphill direction, so please avoid descending K’s Choice during that time.

22.01.2022 The Live Clarence summer Fitness in the Park program resumes this Tuesday. There are sessions at Bellerive Beach Park three times a week. Sessions run every Tuesday and Friday morning at 9.30am and Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm. This program runs until 31 March 2021. 16.01.2022 CLOSURE SOUTH STREET DOG PARK, SUNDAYS 9AM-1PM Please be advised that from this Sunday (4 October) the South Street Dog Park will be closed on Sundays from 9am-1pm for the next six weeks. This is due to a private booking. Furry friends and their owners are welcome to use the park after this time on Sundays and at any other time.

12.01.2022 The Clarence Community Volunteer Service is seeking volunteers who wish to make a difference to the lives of others in the community. We require volunteers across a range of services including shopping support. Our team works with all volunteers to ensure the time donated to the program does not impact on external commitments. Volunteers who provide regular services can do so with as little as a two hour per fortnight commitment. If you would like to help, but do not fee...l shopping support is right for you, the program has a range of services which require volunteers, including; befriending, general transport, patient transport and light gardening. 12.01.2022 Mountain bikers and walkers will be excited to learn work has now commenced on a new section of the Flagstaff Hill Track in the Meehan Range! The track will offer a pleasant bypass to a steep and rocky section of fire trail, plus complete a gap in the trail network. The track is located on Hanson property and licenced to Clarence City Council to allow the public to use it. It is expected to be ready to use by early October ... 12.01.2022 It is HOT out there! As the mercury heads towards 32 degrees celsius -and might reach as high as 36 later - a reminder that the Tasmanian Fire Service has declared a total fire ban in the Clarence municipality today. A total fire ban means that no fires are allowed in the open air, including incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues. The Young Citizen of the Year for 2020 - Ireland Rugen is an inspiration to us all through her journey helping others. Ireland raised much-needed funds for organisations including the Starlight Foundation, World Vision, Oxfam, Ronald McDonald House, the Oncology Unit, and the Royal Hobart Hospital children’s ward.... She also baked thousands of cupcakes three years running for the RSPCA cupcake day at her school. Ireland gives countless hours of her own time helping others in the community less fortunate than herself and is a passionate advocate for access and inclusion for people with disabilities. 10.01.2022 NOTICE We have been receiving complaints about vehicles parking on footpaths in Clarence, hindering the access of wheelchairs, prams and other modes of transport. Parking illegally across a footpath can force people to walk on the road which places them and others in danger and could potentially have devastating effects.... Australian Road Rule 197 states A driver must not stop on a bicycle path, footpath, shared path or dividing strip, or a nature strip adjacent to a length of road in a built-up area. Breaking this rule can incur a fine of $86. Please look out for those around you and stay safe on our roads and footpaths.

07.01.2022 Did you know we cut roadside grasses around late spring every year? This prevents any extra growth which would occur if slashing was undertaken earlier in the season. Council contractors will be engaged to undertake the annual roadside slashing program, including the entire Tangara Trail, in early November. The exact start date will be weather dependant.

07.01.2022 This week is Dementia Australia Dementia Action Week. Dementia affects close to half a million Australians and this number is set to double in the next 25 years. Council has been working with local cafes Moto Vecchia - Cafe and Czegs' Cafe to create Dementia Friendly Cafes across the community of Clarence. These networks provide the opportunity for people with dementia, their partners and carers to make new friends and learn about support services in their area over a cuppa...! 04.01.2022 BRUSH CUTTING AND MOWING The recent wet winter and warm spring has provided the perfect conditions for weeds and long grass to flourish on our reserves and tracks, which has made it challenging for our maintenance crews to keep up. If you see any long grass on our 300km of tracks and reserves, please be assured that our crews are working hard on a prioritised program of brush cutting and mowing and will be attending to it as soon as possible.

Works will take place on Friday, 2 October from 7:00 pm 6:00 am Saturday, 3 October, and on four Sundays - 11, 18, 25 October and 1 November from 7:30 am 5:00 pm. Road users are advised to allow for delays of up to 20 minutes and consider alternative routes where possible.
