25.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day to the greatest mother of all. #Queenbee The queen bee really does know what hard work is. In her life of six to nine years she produces abou...t one egg each minute. That works out to laying her own body weight in eggs each day. A queen bee may lay up to 2,000 eggs a day and up to 1,000,000 in her lifetime. Her presence keep the colony secure and organised. She has a pheromone of wisdom connected to the cosmos interwoven with the seasons. It affects social behaviour, maintenance of the hive, swarming and mating behaviour. In times of dearth (no flowers) she regulates her laying and produces only females. These girls are physiologically different than summer bees and are well suited to surviving long winter periods confined to the hive. Whereas summer bees only live for 4-6 weeks, winter bees can live 4-6 months. Mum lays eggs in a pattern leaving appropriate spaces so heater bees can vibrate increasing the temperature of the whole hive. During spring and times of abundance using the #Fibonacci sequence she gives birth to male bees #drones that share her genetics. She stops feeding drops weight and with many of her daughters she leaves her colony to a virgin daughter.
