23.01.2022 Hi All, the Prime Minister's address today in which he listed food markets as essential services has given confidence that the Mona Vale Farmers market and the Northern Beaches will continue. There will be be changes to enhance social distancing and the markets websites and Facebook pages will detail those. Our stall at those markets will provide hand washing facilities and have a card reader to avoid using cash if you wish to. We are also going to have to curtail taking back recycled egg packing material as this poses a risk of carrying viruses back to the farm workers who normally live in a remote and low risk environment. Stay safe, and hope to see you next Sunday and the following Friday and Sunday, Ian Littleton

17.01.2022 Hi everyone I have just been informed that the Mona Vale market will cease "hibernate " for a period. I am looking at options to still supply eggs to those customers. I do supply eggs to Cocco Rocco Deli shop 51 the centre Forestville 02 94530391. Sonia the owner has already been supplying old Frenchs Forest customers if you do decide to buy from there give her a quick ring first so she can order in enough stock. There is also Exclusive Meats at North Turramurra and UME-YA next to Woolworths at Crows Nest. I will be looking at other options. Also I was next due at the Northern Beaches market on Good Friday but still waiting to see if that market is going ahead. All the best and keep safe. Ian littleton

17.01.2022 An update. Northern Beaches Council sent out an email late yesterday updating their covid 19 measures. Fresh produce markets are still on. I checked with the Northern Beaches Market and I will be there this Friday. While the organisers of the Mona Vale have opted out this gives an opportunity for those customers to get eggs this weekend. I there ready to go at 6.30 am yes it is dark. My stall is near the western fence towards the south of the market. See you there. Ian

16.01.2022 For those who didn't see this message from Farmer/Owner Ian Littleton at last week's Sunday market... Last week state ministers voted to permit the large egg companies to label eggs from intensive production systems as Free Range. The Free Range production standards will be modified to permit stocking densities of up to 10,000 hens per hectare and for the hens to be allowed access outside for only part of the day. The concept of Free Range production was pioneered mainly by... small farmers who were concerned about bird welfare and wanted to provide consumers with eggs from humane production systems that were a clear alternative to intensive cage or barn housing systems. The standards that have been in place since the earlier 1990s of 1,500 birds per hectare and unrestricted access to the range during daylight hours supported that objective. Low stocking densities are key to minimising stress on the hens and preventing negative environmental impacts caused by excess nutrient runoff due to overloading the range area with manure, not unlike cattle feedlots. The growing success of Free Range eggs in the market place has resulted in this push by the large egg producers/marketers to allow eggs from what are really just slightly modified barn systems to be called Free Range whilst disregarding the negative welfare and environmental impacts. Beak trimming is used when birds are housed at high stocking rates to reduce the injury stressed birds cause to each other. This practice is painful and removes the sensitive part of the beak the bird uses for feel. One positive to come out of the meeting was that Free Range eggs will have to be labelled with the stocking rate practiced by the farm that produced them. So you as consumers can make an informed choice. You can be assured that Clarendon Farms will continue to stock our birds at less than 1000 birds/hectare and use housing that does not confine the birds in any way so their access to the range is unlimited. Most importantly this low stress environment means that our birds are never subjected to any form of beak trimming. Kind regards, Ian Littleton Clarendon Farms

10.01.2022 We have moved a new batch of pullets out on to a range. They hopefully will be laying in 4 weeks to help our winter egg supply. Will be at the Warriewood market tomorrow in a different location in the pony field off Walsh St.

10.01.2022 Just arrived in Sydney with eggs for the Mona Vale market tomorrow morning Sunday 10/5. We still can not start till 8.30am but at least that may provide a chance to enjoy Mother's Day more. Regards Ian

09.01.2022 Some of the issues we are currently facing with this cold, wet weather... - Frost - Trying to dig out the plumber after he gets stuck on his lunch run but bogging 4 vehicles in the attempt

06.01.2022 Another update. The good Friday market at the Northern Beaches market has been cancelled as the organisers were concerned that the crowds the market attracts may breach their efforts at compling with the current restrictions. So next market will be 17/4/20 at this stage. Sonia at Cocco Rocco deli Forestville is distributing our eggs as are Ume-ya next to Woolworths at Crows Nest and Exclusive Meats at North Turramurra. Any queries about getting our eggs text me on 0419 202 461 or if you must Facebook message me. Regards Ian littleton

05.01.2022 Hope to see some familiar faces but we would equally love to see some new ones at our stall at The Entrance Organic Market this Saturday. Say hello to Ian and ask any of your chicken or egg-related questions! The Entrance Market The Entrance, Memorial Park, Marine Parade, The Entrance, 2261, Saturdays, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

04.01.2022 We’d like to thank our customers who have been hanging in with us during the move of the Sunday market from Frenchs Forest to Mona Vale. It has required some adjustment. The council’s regulation that we can not trade before 8.30am has probably been the most difficult. However, the upsides are that the parking is better with a 180 spaces available within the multilevel carpark at the rear of the club, as well as the Blackmores warehouse adjacent to the west of the RSL (just look for the yellow signs on Jubilee Avenue). It has been really great to see so many familiar faces at the new site, thanks again! https://m.facebook.com/MonaValeMarket/

03.01.2022 Meet our new German backpackers, Benjamin and Sebastian, this time from Munich. As with most farms that depend on backpackers we pay above award rates plus help with accommodation in town. Mind you in this case they are building their future bedroom. As you would expect from popular culture we find they are precise with their work, very punctual and like neatness and order unlike their employer. - Ian Littleton

01.01.2022 Starting next Wed, 23rd October. We’ll be at the Mosman Market; 1110 Middle Head Rd, from 8am to 12.30pm. Come say hello https://www.organicfoodmarkets.com.au/pho/market_finder.php

01.01.2022 Record high temperatures throughout Jan and Feb have presented us with a few challenges on the farm. The hot weather has resulted in a few severe dry electrical storms carrying an extreme fire risk with the high winds we often experience in Gulgong. These photos were taken after a major rapid grass fire hit our neighbours property. In the space of 30 mins it burnt out 900 hectares of pasture with a devastating loss of 800 sheep. The birds have been surviving these extreme co...nditions however production has dropped along with the egg size. We will continue to keep you in the loop and please send us your feedback and or queries.
