20.01.2022 Burra residents please be aware of the turtle (and water bird situation). The creek is nearly dry. There are turtles on the move and dying because their habitat... is nearly destroyed. The water remaining is hot, stagnant and rank. No feed for them; no shelter. If you do see a turtle, please consider taking it home and placing it an escape proof bath or similar with a rock that it can also rest on. They are AMAZING escape artists so please make sure their place is secure. They can be released when water is back on and the creek is part full. Apparently water flow will be reinstated by the end of the week. Bear in mind this was stated last week... so we cannot keep on holding our breath for these precious species who are under threat and so important for water health. Thank you. 16.01.2022 With the weather warming up, keep an eye out for snakes that may be out enjoying the sun. . It’s rare for people to die from a snake bite, especially if fir...st aid steps are followed. . Make sure you know how to perform first aid. Check if the person’s breathing is impaired or if they are in cardiac arrest. If yes, perform CPR before any other first aid steps. Then call 000 - assume every snake is venomous in South Australia. . 1Keep the person calm and still this helps slow the spread of venom through the lymphatic system. 2DO NOT WASH OR SUCK THE WOUND. 3Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage to the bite (any stretchy material will do). 4DO NOT USE a tourniquet to cut off blood supply. 5Apply the bandage tightly, as you would to a sprain, but not so tight it acts as a tourniquet. 6Extend the bandage to cover all of the bitten limb (including fingers and toes). 7Splint the limb to keep it from moving. 8Stay calm until help/emergency transport arrives. . If faced with a cardiac arrest situation and an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is available, follow instructions provided by the device. See more

02.01.2022 At this time in South Australia it is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended to wear a mask when out in public and you can’t physically distance (1.5m fr...om others). Please note: children under 12 years of age do not need to wear a mask, as they may not be able to handle it safely. The term ‘face mask or mask’ includes reusable cloth masks, and single-use face masks (commonly called surgical masks). At this time, ‘fitted’ face coverings, such as bandanas, scarves, or neck gaiters can be used if you are unable to find a cloth mask, or single-use surgical face mask. Face masks that have unfiltered one-way valves should not be used. Important things to remember about wearing masks: 1 Once your mask is on, it is important that you don’t touch or adjust the front of it while wearing it it’s the part that’s protecting you from COVID-19. If you do touch it by accident, wash or sanitise your hands right away. 2 Before putting your mask on and after taking it off, remember to thoroughly wash and dry (or sanitise) your hands.
