19.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning Weather Situation: A vigorous front associated with a complex low pressure system will sweep across the State this evening and early Wednesday morning. The front will first impact western coasts from late this afternoon then move eastwards to reach central parts including Adelaide around midnight. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely with squally showers and thunderstorms for a period ahead of and following the front as it moves across th...e warning area. In addition, localised destructive wind gusts in excess of 120 km/h are a risk with stronger showers and thunderstorms, mainly about western facing coastal areas with and just ahead of the front. Damaging winds averaging 50-70 km/h at times are also possible away from shower activity. The threat of severe winds will move eastwards and ease later Wednesday morning. A cold, fresh to strong west to southwesterly airstream with scattered showers will persist. For the Adelaide area, the main risk period of severe winds will exist from around 9 pm tonight, through to around 3 am Wednesday morning. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Ceduna, Maitland, Murray Bridge and Kingscote. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Keep clear of fallen power lines; * Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm ACST Tuesday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. 12.01.2022 We’ve got quite a bit of rain forecast across the state over the next couple of days, so it’s time to start thinking about how you can be prepared to stay safe.... If you’re out camping or travelling around, avoid parking cars and setting up camp in creek beds so you don’t end up floating away. And, if roads become flooded or there’s fast flowing water around, don’t risk itturn the car around and find another way, and keep kids and others safe by not walking, playing or riding through it. Our volunteers are always here for you. For emergency SES assistance, call us on 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately. Want more tips to be prepared for floods? 11.01.2022 After the rain we had last week, some of you may be wondering how to use sandbags, where you can get them or how to dispose of them. Sandbags placed in appropri...ate locations around your home, such as wastewater drains, can help minimise the impact of flooding. You can buy sandbags in places such as hardware or garden supply stores. If you can’t find them there and need them in an emergency, plastic shopping bags or grain and animal fodder bags may also be used. Ahead of a major storm or flood, we may make them available from locations in your area, which we will publish on our social media and our website. When they’ve been used you need to be careful with handling them since they’ve been exposed to floodwater which may contain human and animal waste, chemicals and more. This includes wearing sturdy gloves and goggles. You can find more information about sandbags by reading our ‘How to sandbag your home’ fact sheet: http://ow.ly/GF1R50DqNvM
