25.01.2022 Who wouldn't be excited about chairing this amazing panel? #writearoundthemurray
25.01.2022 Tune in to @abctv tomorrow night at 8.30pm to watch me make an arse of myself on Further Back In Time For Dinner. @annabelcrabb would never be so silly as to stick a pillow up her bum when the publicity people have their cameras out. Also a say some things about Federation, the Spanish Flu Pandemic, Women’s suffrage and probably other stuff that I don’t remember because we recorded his pre-Covid. (Hence Sydney Harbour, not a green screen.) #BackInTimeAU #historianatlarge
22.01.2022 ‘Past Tense’ event tonight for @writearoundthemurray exceeded all expectations (and they were sky high). Thanks to brilliant speakers @mdavisqlder @lucytreloarwriter @JamesHDunk @tony_birch_ and @flythefalcon for their challenges, provocations and consolations. 20.01.2022 We’ve got this Melbourne. Last push. #extendedlockdown

18.01.2022 This Saturday!!!
18.01.2022 It was indeed a great honour to be presented with my Order of Australia medal at Government House yesterday for services to literature and to historical research. Thank you to whoever nominated me for bringing my public and professional activities to the attention of the committee. This is how it happens folks. I am especially grateful to the Honour A Woman campaign (looking at you @ruthmcgowanoam) which is working towards gender parity in the Honours system. Get on board. And while a fancy frock occasion is always fun, and I respect and admire the @vicgovernor, Linda Dessau, the crowns all over the medal and associated certification are a reminder that it is time for Australia to become a reconciled republic, where Aboriginal sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be.
16.01.2022 A little bit happy about this one.
15.01.2022 Enjoyed talking to Ross and Russ on on @3AW693 Breakfast this morning about #MelbourneDay. What would be my gift to the city, they wanted to know? Why a statue of Zelda D’Aprano of course! 51 years since Zelda made her iconic stand and still a 14% gap (and only 1% of Melbourne’s statues are of real women on their own in public places - and no indigenous.) Wrack off Covid so we can start making this #monumentalchange happen. Oh, and happy #EqualPayDay y’all. #payequity #statueequality #operationzelda
14.01.2022 Behind the scenes at the Covid-safe Investiture ceremony yesterday. (The actual gong-giving with @vicgovernor happened behind even more doors, where only official photography allowed. WTS.) Posted here with consent of my dear family, husband @damienwrightstudios, sons Bernard and Noah and daughter Esther. Their love, support, encouragement, humour and intelligence mean everything to me. Also congrats to my brother-in-law George Wright, former Secretary of the ALP, who ...was awarded an AO for his service to politics and business. Lovely to make the day a family affair. Special mention to my mother Ruth and sister Rachel who love me fiercely and ceaselessly. And shout out to Jacob at @oxheyandbushey for making my hair look like I haven’t spent the last eight months in lockdown. Last gesture (see final pic) goes to Esther whose reverence for the occasion was perfect and priceless. Keep undermining the dominant racist imperialist patriarchal paradigm one flip at a time darling. See more
13.01.2022 This is really the best (and cutest) thing ever: KIDS POD, where the kids ask the questions and the grown ups try to answer them. I was rapt to be hit up about what a historian does, why she does it, and whether I’ve ever found any bones in my research. 20 minutes of pure joy. Thanks @aimeechanauthor for the opportunity. And Liam, Eli, Charlotte and Henry for the excellent questions.
12.01.2022 Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard recently invited La Trobe historian Clare Wright to discuss Australia's forgotten women on 'A Podcast of One's Own' Listen here: https://now.latrobe/JuliaClarePod

11.01.2022 And we’re launched! What a ripper event. If we were all in the same room ... we would have needed a bigger room! Thanks to the huge crowd who zoomed in to enjoy this fabulous conversation with the Patron Saint of Aussie Archives, Prof Jenny Hocking. Stories of Gough, Lionel Murphy and Frank Hardy, secrets and lies, archives as legal evidence, public and private, and a taste of what’s to come in Jenny’s next project. If you didn’t have the fever before tonight, you’ll be burni...ng up now. Thanks to Jenny, our producer Matt Smith @anightlightguy, production assistant @clairegolan, @latrobeuni Dean of Humanities & SS Prof Nick Bisley for cutting the virtual ribbon and of course to my comrade @yves_l_rees who makes everything smart, smooth and fun. ICYMI, this event will be up on the #ArchiveFever soon. Hope you enjoy Season 2!! #archivefevernotcovidfever #historypodcast See more

08.01.2022 TONIGHT 5pm! A Farewell to Arts? On the Morrison Government's University Legislation. In the wake of the Govt’s ‘Jobs-Ready Graduates’ legislation, which raises the cost of a BA by 113%, join me as I moderate a critical discussion with activist and writer Celeste Liddle @enigmatic_utopian, Emeritus Prof Tom Griffiths, President of the Academy of Humanities Prof Joy Damousi and ANU Professor of Higher Ed Practice, Andrew Norton. ... Why does the Morrison Government want to dissuade students from enrolling in an Arts degree? Will their legislation succeed in its apparent object? What impact will the more than doubling of the cost of an Arts degree have on the choices made by indigenous students and those from new immigrant communities on entering university? And more, with ample time for audience Q&A. (A huge crowd already registered; the forum has clearly hit a nerve.) Register here: https://webinars.on24.com/latrobeuni/FarewellArts
07.01.2022 You really won’t want to miss this dream team event: @mdavisqlder @tony_birch_ @flythefalcon @lucytreloarwriter #jamesdunk giving their answer to the question: History, what is it good for? Excited? I am. This Saturday night 12 Sept, 5-6.30pm. Jump on the @writearoundthemurray website to RSVP for your FREE tix.
02.01.2022 Happy Jewish New Year friends. There is a lot of talk about getting back to Covid-normal by Christmas so that families can be together, which is great, but let’s not forget the Jewish, Muslim and other non-Christian families who are celebrating/observing their high holy days in isolation. With synagogues closed and lockdown still in place in Melbourne, there will be a lot of Jews blowing their own Shofar this Rosh Hashanah. Shana Tovah to you all. May your new year be bright and healthful. #roshhashana
02.01.2022 Today is World Podcast Day, or International Day of the Podcast, or something. (Frankly, those of us in Melbourne have no idea what day/week/month it is.) Anyhoo, podcasts are great and worth celebrating and today is as good a day as any to catch up on S2 of #ArchiveFever. @yves_l_rees and I are now busy plotting S3, desperately hoping that Covid will wrack off so we can go back into the studio. Being F2F with our fabulous guests - and arm in arm with each other - is much more fun than IZL. @latrobeuni #internationalpodcastday #historypodcast #glam #allnightlong
01.01.2022 Could not be more excited for my @latrobeuni History colleague, #ArchiveFever podcast co-host and dear friend @yves_l_rees on the acquisition of their memoir by @allenandunwin. So thrilled that Australia and the world will be able to share in their intellectual brilliance, hard-won wisdom and exquisite writing. Congrats Yves and thank you @jptequilarista and @jacintadimase. You sure know a when you see one. #AllAboutYves #trans #transmascwriter #transmemoir
