17.01.2022 Principal John Young writes for Education Today magazine. Read the full article here: https://www.educationtoday.com.au/news/Know-Thy-Impact-5138 Know Thy Impact!... Reflections from our on-going Invitational Education and Visible Learning journey at Clarkson CHS. Teachers’ understanding of their students’ academic progress, as well as the influence of teacher comments and actions on the students’ self-concept, lead to the creation of inviting classrooms places that defy, as far as is practicable, any loss of enthusiasm for school. Your classroom must be the place where all students thrive. https://fb.watch/1T1NQJJcxN/
15.01.2022 Community Consultation in the Clarkson, Kinross and Mindarie Area The Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Sue Ellery MLC, has announced a community consultation to gather the views of local parents, students and community members on the secondary education options in the Clarkson, Kinross and Mindarie area. The Department’s preferred model for secondary students is to provide them with continuous schooling from Year 7 right through to Year 12 all delivered in one s...chool environment. This minimises the transition points in a student’s schooling, creating a more seamless secondary education. Reducing the number of changes that students experience, by having to move from one secondary school to another, is beneficial for their social, emotional and academic development. At present: Clarkson Community High School caters for students from Years 7 to 12. Kinross College caters for students from Years 7 to 10. Mindarie Senior College caters for students in Years 11 and 12. As at Semester 2, 2020, the total enrolments of each school are: Clarkson Community High School - Years 7 to 12 - Enrolments 325 Kinross College - Years 7 to 10 - Enrolments 717 Mindarie Senior College - Years 11 and 12 - Enrolments 780 There are currently 1822 students across the three schools. You are invited to have your say, through an online survey, where you can select one of the following options: Option 1 Kinross College and Mindarie Senior College each extend to become Years 7 to 12 schools with separate local intake areas. Clarkson Community High School is repurposed and becomes part of North Metropolitan TAFE, Clarkson campus to focus on training for young people. Option 2 No change The online survey will be available at https://www.education.wa.edu.au/ The survey opens at 9.00am Friday, 27 November 2020 and closes at 5.00pm Friday, 18 December 2020. Community information sessions will be held for each school community as follows: Mindarie Senior College Tuesday 1 December 2020 from 6.00pm to 7.00pm at Mindarie Senior College sports hall, 14 Elliston Parade, Mindarie. If you wish to attend, please register your interest at [email protected]. Kinross College Wednesday 2 December 2020 from 6.00pm to 7.00pm at Kinross College performing arts theatre, Falkland Way, Kinross. If you wish to attend, please register your interest at https://www.trybooking.com/BNCNY. Clarkson Community High School Thursday 3 December 2020 from 6.00pm to 7.00pm at Clarkson Community High School gymnasium, 16 Walyunga Boulevard, Clarkson. If you wish to attend, please register your interest by emailing [email protected]. Physical distancing measures will apply at all community information sessions. Staff will also be consulted as part of this process. There is a factsheet with more information and you are encouraged to read it before taking part in the online survey https://www.education.wa.edu.au/dl/4gnzxne

14.01.2022 The book by Hattie and Zierer, 10 Mindframes for Visible Learning (2018), is a focus for school improvement at Clarkson linking invitational theory to the thinking that is necessary to make the learning visible. Visible Learning is about the thinking teachers do to make the learning more effective in the classroom. In this video, graduate teacher Monica Chamizo discusses Mindframe 6 and explains how she uses feedback in the classroom. Special thanks to Year 8 students Chloe... Boyle, Eve Tickner, Jaxon Walford and Sarah Price for their valued contributions to this video. 12.01.2022 Deputy Principal Adam Inder writes for Education Today: "The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 has resulted in government restrictions imposing requirements on practices relating to hygiene, curriculum delivery and social distance. Within many fields with education no exception the past we looked to, in order to glean our expectations and our comfort, has been disrupted. It has been a responsibility at the school level to innovative in such a way that adapts to these changes while maintaining a high level of impact in teaching and learning." 11.01.2022 We will be holding our Athletics Carnival next week on Friday the 18th of September. Parents are invited to attend during the individual events in the morning, 8:45-11:04am Under Department of Health and Education guidelines, adult visitors to school should maintain physical distancing of one person per two square metres. Please limit the amount of people/family that attend, to make social distancing more achievable.... Please maintain social distancing when spectating. This should be relatively easy to achieve as students will be spread across the entire oval and you can follow your child from event to event. Finally, as in previous years, we ask that you do not bring your dog to this event. Physical distancing is an approach that doesnt come naturally to us, particularly at school events which are often an opportunity for the community to socialise. Consequently, we very much appreciate your efforts to follow these new protocols. Doing so enables us to welcome you back on the school grounds whilst following current health advice. Thank you :)

03.01.2022 On Friday we held the 2020 Clarkson Challenge. Each year we invite Year 6 budding scientists from local primary schools to come and test their STEM skills. This year the challenge was to design and 3D-print a useful life hack gadget. Clarkson Primary School and Somerly Primary School sent two teams each. Designs included a toothpaste squeezer/money clip, a can opener/phone stand and a very useful handy hook/phone stand/toothpaste squeezer/key holder. The challenge also inclu...ded an Esports competition and a solar car race. All teams did a fantastic job on the day but there can only be one winner. By one point, the winning team was the "3D Masters" - Echo Edwards, Isabelle Smith, Matthew Hewett and Zac Bolger from Clarkson Primary School. Well done guys, you win the Clarkson Challenge Trophy and a trip to Scitech! #STEM #ClarksonChallenge #clarksonchs

01.01.2022 A message from the Principal Dear Parents/Carers, I want to thank you again for your support throughout what has been a very unusual school semester. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our entire community and has presented us with extraordinary challenges in managing schooling during the first half of 2020. I am pleased that together, we have been able to make the best of this situation and ensure your childs safety and continuity of learning.... With the regular attendance of many students being lower over this time, the breadth and depth of the curriculum covered throughout semester one may have been reduced. It also means that your childs attendance may not be reported, and any written comments may provide less information on his/her progress than usual. Although we are not required to provide a grade for this semester, at Clarkson Community High School, we have decided to provide a grade where possible. Parents and carers should note that this is based on the evidence of achievement and work ethic we have been able to access, so grades may not be a perfect indicator of achievement and progress. Schooling is once again returning to normal and our students are engaging in the regular curriculum, in their usual classroom environment. Semester two reports will reflect this and therefore provide the usual, more detailed information on your childs progress and achievement. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we work together to provide the best learning opportunities for our students. As we progress, Ill be sure to keep you updated with any new information. Kind regards John Young Principal Clarkson Community High School
