25.01.2022 On Wednesday, June 20, 1979, while sailing in a qualifying race for the Observer Single-Handed Transatlantic Race, Jan Gougeon’s self-designed and built 31’ trimaran FLICKA was capsized by heavy seas in the North Atlantic. Jan survived on the overturned plywood/epoxy multihull for four days before he was rescued by a passing freighter. FLICKA was never recovered. A transcript of survival at sea between Jan Gougeon, his brothers Meade and Joel, as well as fellow multihull desi...gner/sailor Mike Zuteck, give's us a glimpse of Jan's experience. This discussion takes place on June 26, 1979, just hours after the freighter that rescued Jan from FLICKA and delivered him to dry land. 17.01.2022 Exciting news! The Boat Warehouse is opening a new store in West Gosford on 30th November. At last - a fully stocked chandlery and boat accessory outlet on the ...Central Coast. The new 645 square metre outlet will be located at 4 Stockyard Place in West Gosford. The store is expected to fill a gap in the Central Coast market for local boaters and fishermen left stranded with the departure of Bias Boating and several smaller chandleries over recent years. A wide range of general chandlery, sailing gear, quality fishing supplies including outriggers and Wilson rods will be stocked. Many Central Coasters will already be familiar with The Boat Warehouse's other products available online and distributed out of their Sydney fulfilment centre. The Boat Warehouse - for all your boating, fishing and water sport supplies. #gosford #centralcoastbusiness #theboatwarehouse #store #outlet #marinechandlery

11.01.2022 Love tradition?? The team at Classic Boat Supplies and The Boat Warehouse certainly do. Captain Marty and his very capable crew showed us the ropes, so we could unfurl the sails and even let a few of us ascend the rope ladder rungs to the Futtock Plate to take in the beauty of Sydney Harbour. Our end of year Christmas party upon Southern Swan (Svanen) was the perfect setting to celebrate with workmates and family, reflect on a huge year of challenges, and appreciate the lo...ve of boating that we share with trade partners and customers daily. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and lots of boating fun over the summer break! 10.01.2022 A magnificent re-birth project of Naneen. This Dublin Bay 21 Class Restoration in Kilrush is Honoured in the Annual Wood Awards Ireland. The project has received the High Commended Award in the Restoration-Conservation Category. Using modern wood engineering techniques, the judges remark: "Central to the project has been the combination of the traditional skill of the shipwright and the application of the latest technical knowledge in timber conservation and innovative woode...n boat construction. The result clearly illustrates the effectiveness of wood as a structure and as a lightweight skin, capable of withstanding the toughest of marine environments. The innovative uses of laminated beams and frames and epoxy resin have combined to create a stiff, watertight, low maintenance monocoque hull, without nails or screws, which allows the use of durable two-pack polyurethane finishes. The species used include iroko, yellow cedar, Douglas fir, African mahogany and Sitka spruce, as well as salvaged pitch pine and greenheart". 01.01.2022 Classic beauties at Royal Geelong Yacht Club Originally designed to catch Barracouta in the open waters of Bass Strait, the classic Couta boats once supplied Victorian ports, with an abundance of fish up until the 1960s. With classic lines, seafaring capabilities and exceptional speed, it's no wonder these beauties have been replicated and undergone a revival of late.
