24.01.2022 I have added a range of Button Head Socket Screws, zinc plated, to our shelves. I wanted to use them as substitute for JIS pan head phillips screws on my Suzuki T20 engine side covers. Rationale is although not original the drive is more robust than the phillips, they are readily available at a decent price and the head shape is the same as a pan. I prefer zinc screws to stainless when used on alloy covers due to possible corrosion of the alloy with stainless screws.

22.01.2022 Found a nice little French girl at the Peterborough motorcycle museum. Currently I am sharing a sunset on the bank of the Cooper Creek at Innamincka with a few friendly flies.

19.01.2022 New to our shelves are Silicon Bronze Ring Shank Nails, a long time favourite of boat builders, and often used for cedar cladding and timber decking. More sizes are available than are listed on our web site so contact us if you do not see what you want. https://www.classicfasteners.com.au/silicon-bronze-1/

18.01.2022 Are Slotted and Castle Nuts the same thing? The answer is no they are not the same, but they do serve the same purpose. They are both used in conjunction with a split pin (cotter pin) to prevent loosening. Used in low torque situations, e.g. trailer wheel axles, or in critical components where coming loose is not an option e.g. axle nuts on motorcycles. ... The difference between the two nuts is the height of the nut. Castle nuts are taller than slot nuts for the same given thread size. Castle nuts also often have the slotted section of the nut rounded so that a split pin can be confined to closer margins of the nut itself. The nut can be either tightened to its correct torque and then a hole drilled axially though the shaft and a split pin used to prevent further rotation or in the case of a shaft with a predrilled hole, the nut is tightened to the correct torque and then adjusted slightly so that a slot on the nut aligns with the hole in the shaft. As is the case with trailer wheel nuts.

17.01.2022 JIS Pan Head M5-0.9 x 20mm Pan Head Screws are back in stock. These screws are have the coarse thread used up until the late 60s on Japanese manufactured goods. They are mighty hard to come by, but as my last lot sold out I thought I best track some more down. Suzuki listed them as part number 02111-05201

16.01.2022 In April 1967 the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) was changed to match the screw pitches of the ISO standard. A little chart is below comparing pre April 1967 JIS screw pitches with post April 1967 JIS screw pitches. It may help explain why some metric screws don't seem to fit on your motorcycle. Pre Apr 1967 JIS... 3mm.....0.6 4mm.....0.75 5mm.....0.9 6mm.. 1.0 8mm.....1.00 10mm...1.25 12mm...1.5 post Apr 1967 ISO 3mm.....0.5 4mm.....0.7 5mm.....0.8 6mm ..1.0 8mm.....1.25 10mm...1.5 12mm...1.25

05.01.2022 The humble BSF & BSW cheese head screw. Once an easy commodity to get is now nearly impossible to source from our regular suppliers. As such, we are having a range of these screws manufactured for us at a boutique engineering shop. They are available in stainless steel, lightly polished and look superb.

03.01.2022 Hi, just a note for our interstate customers. Monday is a public holiday in South Australia and we will be closed for the day. Cheers

02.01.2022 This week I thought I would write a few words to attempt to explain why a lubricant should always be used when using stainless steel fasteners. It is a bit of a boring topic and the abbreviated version is "use lubricant on assembly". The Blog can be found here. https://www.classicfasteners.com.au//what-is-thread-galli/

01.01.2022 Hi, the power is out at the shop and thus our phones and email currently do not work. They should be repaired this afternoon. Cheers Derek

01.01.2022 It is not usual that we see customers cars as they are often disassembled home in the shed. This one however, showed up the other day and I could not resist taking a photo. A beautiful looking Austin 16.

01.01.2022 BSF stock returning to our shelves. After a lean time on the BSF front we have just received a 100kg shipment of various zinc plated BSF nuts and bolts. They have been received into stock and are now available for purchase. In addition to the BSF stock I am part way through sorting about 20,000 brass wood screws. We have just had them nickel plated here in Adelaide as our supplier can no longer provide nickel plated screws in all the sizes we need. Sorting these will still take a little while but I hope to have them available by next weekend.

01.01.2022 We have simplified our shipping charges and now have just two choices $10 flat rate and $15 express/courier.
