New homes have been found for three of the museum aircraft which was brought about by the winding back of museums operations to focus on the completion of the museums F4U-1 Corsair Ser No:- 02270. This should take approximately two more years commencing January 2017. Some display material has been disposed of along with the museums Dassault Mirage III, Avon Sabre and the P39 Aircobra. This will enable space for the final Corsair build up and work areas. The museum De-Havilland SeaVenom will remain on display along with the hangars DH Tiger Moth and DH Chipmunk. Two CJ6 Nanchangs also remain on display. Open hours currently remain the same. The museums F4U-1 Corsair now becomes the centre of attraction and will be on display for close up conducted inspection to museum visitors. See more

09.01.2022 F4U-1 Corsair 02270's aft section was lifted up and placed on a stand, to make underside work easier for the Corsair rebuild team. A bit of backstory, the Corsair 022070 was ditched out of fuel near Quion Hill airfield on May 5th, 1944 on the north coast of Vanuatu island of Efate. Capt James. A. Vittitoe was piloting the aircraft among 12 other corsairs escorting 36 Douglas DSB Dauntless (dive bombers) during a bomber training mission. The cause of the crash? After 4 hours and 12 minutes of flight time, the fuel ran out necessitating Capt Vittitoe to force land the Corsair in a shallow lagoon alongside the Quoin Hill Fighter strip. The Corsairs machine guns were salvaged the next day.
