24.01.2022 Phoenix Quartet delighted Classic at Picton concert goers on Sunday, October 20.
23.01.2022 Classics 2019 finished on a high note Sunday afternoon saw opera come to Wollondilly and what a wonderful event it was with great performances s from soprano Jane Ede, tenor Brad Cooper and pianist Andrew Basile. The nearly full Wollondilly Shire Hall was the venue for the intimate performance from these talented musicians who delighted patrons with a diverse selection from Richard Strauss, Brahms, Lehar, Bellini, Roger Quilter to arias from Puccini the finale ‘O soave fan...ciulla’ from La Boheme saw Mimi and Rodolfo walk off together. The applause and ensuing encore wrapped up the 2019 Classics at Picton program. Both Ede and Cooper made attendees feel comfortable by explaining the story behind many of the pieces which added to the performances, especially for newbies to opera. The next Classics in Picton is in March keep a look out for the 2020 program which is shaping up to be a big one. Classical music close to home who could ask for more.
20.01.2022 Closing date fast approaching for talented young musicians Young classical musician who are looking to further their musical experiences should consider applying to Classics at Picton for support. The Wollondilly based group is offering a number of awards to up and coming musicians but hurry the closing date is November 8. Awards are valued at up to $500 and will be available from January 1, 2020. Students aged 10-18 years, who are resident in Wollondilly shire and study...ing a musical instrument or voice are invited to apply. Applicants should provide a short written statement giving age, residential address, music experience, how they intend to use the award and the amount of money requested. Applications should be forwarded to [email protected] no later than November 8, 2019. Applicants must arrange for a music teacher familiar with their work to forward a reference separately by the same date. Classics at Picton will award funds based on merit and reserves the right to decide the number of awards offered. Successful applicants will be notified by email in the first week of December 2019.

18.01.2022 Preparing for BACH IN THE DARK Friday 9 August 7pm. Tickets ($30) have gone on sale online (www.ticketebo.com.au/classicsatpicton) or can be picked up at That Office Place or Country Bumpkin both in Argyle St Picton. Cellist Rachel Scott this time brings with her The Chamber Choir of St James', King St Sydney, for what will be a very special evening of music.
17.01.2022 Opera stars head to the classics Music lovers will be in for a treat when Opera Australia’s Brad Cooper and Jane Ede with pianist Andrew Basile perform at Classics at Picton’s last concert for 2019 on November 17 at Wollondilly Shire Hall. It’s anticipated it will be a must see performance for all music devotees. Ideally titled ‘Song in the Afternoon’ it will feature opera arias, operetta and song as these star performers take to the stage, or performance in the round. Sopran...o Jane Ede and tenor Brad Cooper, accompanied by pianist Andrew Basile have designed a program that will please all lovers of the art of singing with familiar, romantic and uplifting songs by Richard Strauss and Johannes Brahms followed by arias from Franz Lehar’s operettas as well as Bellini and arias from ‘La Boheme’ by Puccini. The concert will end with the famous duet ‘Soave Fanciulla’. It all happens Sunday, November 17 at 1.30pm at Picton Shire Hall. 17.01.2022 If you are unwinding for the long weekend include some music along the way such the Phoenix Collective initiative. Performing online on June 7 at 1pm. Bookings required. Tickets are $20 for single, seems to include a movie (Different Trains) about trains in 1940's in Europe and USA and features recorded train sounds and voices, including the voice of a Holocaust survivor. 14.01.2022 Online concert this Friday This Friday, November 27 Rachel Scott will be performing alongside Raff and Janet Agostino on classical guitar. We have been arranging and rehearsing some totally new repertoire to share with you all so get ready for a completely different program. We’ll play Bach (both father and son), music by our good friend Richard Charlton, Villa-Lobos, Peter Sculthorpe and a few other surprises that I know you will love. We’ll move from Bach to how other co...mposers have used Bach for their inspiration get ready for a little something for everyone! The concert will feature Bach's first sonata for Viola da Gamba Sonata, J.S. Bach's 'Little' fugue, C.P.E. Bach's 'Solfeggietto', Villa-Lobos' arrangement of a movement from his fifth 'Bachianas Brasilieras' and Richard Charlton's 'Construct No. 1' (often heard on ABC Classic). There will also be an arrangement of a Marcello Oboe Concerto by J.S. Bach, and a tribute to Bach by the American guitarist Frederic Hand. 12.01.2022 The classics continue online The music is still being played thanks to online concerts get set for the latest offering from Rachel Scott on July 31. The Classics at Picton committee is keeping the music alive by linking people with some favourite performers who are keen to continue sharing the classics. Friday, July 31 Rachel Scott will be joined by clarinet superstar, Deborah de Graaff. She played in the 2019 Back In the Dark series, and was a huge hit with audiences. He...r clarinet playing is superb, she has such warmth and humour in her music-making and she has very fabulous hair as well, Rachel said. What more do you need, really? So get ready for a night of music that will include some Bach, some pieces inspired by Bach, and other pieces that will take you all travelling around the world. It'll be beautiful, fun, exciting and everything in between. If you'd like to get a ticket you just need to go to https://events.humanitix.com/bitd-cello-clarinet and follow the information there. 07.01.2022 Join the live streaming of Bach in the Dark For those staying in on Friday night (which means just about everybody) you could partake of some musical diversion when Rachel Scott and Ben Ward (both will be at an acceptable physical distance with the appropriate hand washing in place) who will be live streaming a performance on April 17 at 7pm. For those from Camden and Wollondilly familiar with Bach in the Dark music played in near darkness with audience members holding a gl...ass of bubbly enjoying the performance and the ambience music lovers are encouraged to stage something similar in their own homes on Friday night. I know that it will be science and medicine that will heal our bodies but I feel that it is music and the creative arts that will heal our souls, and help us through this difficult time, Rachel said. We’ll be playing a version of the cello and double bass concerts we’d prepared, but were cancelled right at the last minute. I know you’ll love it there’s music by Bach, Rossini, MB Sibson, Bartók and Edgar Meyer. There’s a little bit of something for everyone. Those wanting to live stream the performance can buy a tickets for $7.50 (or a little more if you are in the position and would be appreciated) purchasing tickets will be help a few artists; the arts and entertainment industries have been dealt a considerable blow since the outbreak of COVID-19. Rachel Scott, who stages Bach in the Dark concerts including one at Picton has taken to live streaming to share the music and from all accounts the first two have been very well attended.... A third has been planned so if you enjoy classical music enjoy it from the comforts of your own home where else would you go. Music is something that we can all share. It can transport, soothe, uplift and give hope and I know that at this strange time, it is needed more than ever. It’s a strange thing, to play to a webcam, but it’s so fabulous that you are all loving it, Rachel said.
