23.01.2022 WORKSHOP-SCULPTING THE HUMAN HEAD Judith Roberts at Claydreamers Studio COMMENCING 7TH MARCH 6.30-9PM COST: $320 COURSE DESCRIPTION... During this 5 x week short course students will form a life size human head working with large coils and sculptural modelling processes. 4 x weeks ( 07 - 28 March ) will be dedicated to building the head, developing proportions, defining features, details and surfaces, and thinning the form. The piece will then be left to dry and be bisque fired. 1 x week ( April Date TBC) When all heads have been fired, this session will include demonstrations of possible finishes for the works using cold finishes. Use of colour, stains, faux bronze and other decorative possibilities will be demonstrated. Handouts to be supplied - Ceramic Sculptural Process and Approach to Finishes will be distributed during the workshop Image is a patinated plaster portrait of Alfred Hill by sculptor Raynor Hoff currently on display at the National portrait Gallery Canberra .....cast directly from the clay, finished to suggest weathered bronze, ....a 'cold treatment' I will demonstrate in session 5

11.01.2022 Naked Raku workshop scheduled for Saturday 7th September, 2019 This exciting full day workshop will be held at a stunning Kangaroo Ground Property.... You will be required to have 4 bisque fired pieces with at least one of them burnished. (polished using a fine terra sigillata). The naked Raku technique results in fabulous soft, smokey crackle glaze patina. There will also be an opportunity to use standard Raku glazes on the day. 01.01.2022 This beautiful serving plate was made by Rakusai san a ceramic master in Japan. His work is made from the famous Shigaraki clay which is known for its rich quartz content. it was wood fired in a snake kiln, where the path of the flame licks around works , that are carefully positioned for amazing flashing results. Looking forward to visiting Rakusai sans studio again on our upcoming pottery tour !
