23.01.2022 2 Bent Rods Fishing Excursion Today we had our final excursion for the holidays. We headed to Shorncliffe Pier to learn how to fish with Beau and Oscar from 2 Bent Rods. Once we arrived and after hearing how to be safe in the water we headed to the shore to use a drag net and try and catch some bait fish. We caught a blubber jellyfish, silver bitty, cuttle fish and some small whiting. The children assisted with bringing in the bait net and our older kids went out rather deep...! We then moved onto fishing off the pier here the kids waited patiently watching their lines in case they got a bite! We were lucky enough to catch a number of whiting and other small fish as well as a sting ray! Robyn cooked a tasty bbq for lunch and once we had finished eating we headed back out to the pier to try our luck again. As the excursion was coming to an end Beau took us down to the beach again to try our luck at pumping for yabbies. The kids had a great day and there will be plenty of sleepy heads tonight - staff included! We hope the kids enjoyed their holidays at vacation care and we can’t wait to do it all again for the Christmas holidays! See more

12.01.2022 Salar de Uyuni Desert! This week we moved on to the Salar de Uyuni desert which is located in Bolivia. The Salar de Uyuni is the worlds largest salt flat. The children enjoyed the number of craft experiences we had on offer throughout the week which included Handprint Flamingos, Culpeo Foxes, Crinkle Lama’s, Reflective Salt Flat Paintings and over very own Volcano experiment. We also learnt that Angus has visited the salt flats and it took him 3 days to cross and whilst tr...avelling he stayed in a Salt House. We also learnt for our Star Wars fans that The Last Jedi was filmed in Salar de Uyuni. We look forward to moving onto our next Desert next week for a new adventure! See more

03.01.2022 Harvest Day! This afternoon we harvested our potatoes! We planted our Kipfler potatoes in the June/July vacation period. We learnt once we planted them that the plant would die off when the potatoes were ready and today was the day! We are very proud of harvest as we didn’t know what to expect and are now looking for some tasty recipes that we can use our potatoes in!

03.01.2022 We had such a fun day today! This morning for our first excursion we headed to Lyndhurst Early Learning Centre to visit Sara in her Garden. She had organised a sensory based activity that the children absolutely loved! Sara had a different selection of fruits and vegetables which she had blended down. The children had to taste and smell them before guessing what she had in each cup. Once we had tasted them (some tasty, some not tasty at all) we then used the fruits and vegeta...bles and added more water to them to make water colours so we could paint a picture each. After we finished our paintings we then used some more of our fruit and vegetables mix and mixed it in with a cornflour base putty to make our face paint. The kids had the chance to paint their friends faces with the different vegetables which they really enjoyed doing. Before we left we had a tour of the garden, fed the worms and read a story in the wooden tee pee. We headed back to OSHC and had homemade cheeseburgers for lunch. Our day was so eventful that we had a few preppies have an afternoon sleep whilst watching the movie Peter Rabbit! See more
