24.01.2022 A message from Police: WHAT ARE YOU REQUIRED TO DO AFTER A MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH? In recent times police have seen an increase in motor vehicle crash’s where a driver will fail to stop and exchange their particulars with the other persons involved. In many cases these crashes would have met our 'minor crash' criteria and would typically not have required police involvement.... Under the Road Rules, a driver involved in a crash must stop at the scene of the crash and give the driver's required particulars to: Any other driver involved in the crash, and Any other person involved in the crash who is injured, and The owner of any property damaged in the crash. For a driver involved in a crash, this means: The driver's name and address, and The name and address of the owner of the driver's vehicle, and The vehicle registration number, and Any other information necessary to identify the vehicle. Penalties apply for failing to provide your particulars or failing to stop at the scene of the crash and not providing your particulars. These penalties start at $349 and a loss of 3 demerit points. 16.01.2022 BEWARE OF RENTAL SCAMS Please be careful of rental scams where there has been an increase of 76% this year with scammers using tactics related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These scams target people seeking new rental accommodation by offering fake rental properties to convince people into handing over money or personal information.... Scammers are offering reduced rents due to COVID-19 and using the government restrictions to trick people into transferring money without inspecting the property, according to the ACCC Consumer Rights. Make sure you view a property in person before paying any bond or rent money to landlords or real estate agents. The scammer will post advertisements on real estate or classified websites or target people who have posted on social media that they are looking for a room. Scammers often rely on email communications to avoid identification, so do an independent search for a phone number and speak to the property manager over the phone or arrange a meeting in person. Please be cautious when giving out your personal information. For more information see: https://www.accc.gov.au//rental-scams-targeting-more-austr

It is vital that cigarette smokers acted responsibly. It is an ignition source, it is a big risk and can easily ignite fires on the side of the road when tossed out the window. The penalty for a driver caught tossing a lit cigarette out the window of a vehicle in NSW is up to an $11,000 fine and 10 demerit points during a Total Fire Ban, or more than $600 and five demerit points on a regular day. Heavy fines also apply to passengers. Those who spot a driver committing the offence are urged report the incident via the NSW Rural Fire Service's 'report a cigarette butt tosser' website. A form on the website asks for details such as the tosser's vehicle make, model and registration, as well as the location of where the incident took place, who threw the butt, the direction of travel and nearest town. Reports must be made within 14 days of the incident occurring, and road users are reminded to only make the report when they are no longer driving. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/cigarette-form
