21.01.2022 The NSW Law Reform Commission has recommended NSW follow Tasmania and Victoria and introduce a communicative model of consent for sexual assault. 18.01.2022 In Australia, the female prison population increased 64% between 2009 and 2019 - and 33% of the women and girls in jail in Australia are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Australia is in the midst of a mass imprisonment crisis, says Monique Hurley, the legal director for the Human Rights Law Centre. In 1970, the Aboriginal Legal Service in Redfern was established as the first Aboriginal legal service in Australia as well as the first free legal service in the country.
