25.01.2022 #coles Six months on from Coles Supermarkets Stikeez! collectables "craze" we are still finding these useless plastic toys at beach clean-ups! At the time the...y were launched Coles stated that were "designed to be kept and not disposed of". So Coles can you please explain how our onshore volunteer Danny found these at Jindalee Beach in Perths north on Saturday? There is no away with plastic and wildlife cant tell whether an item is made of plastic or something to eat. If ingested a small, colourful plastic toy vegetable can be life threatening. For Coles, this Stikeez promotion might have been aimed at healthy eating for children, but for an animal theres nothing healthy about a stomach full of plastic. 25.01.2022 This great green eco company must remain operating.

24.01.2022 I just rescued this Great Cormorant from a house in Dalkieth, Western Australia, it has bad diarrhea, and is vomiting a lot, probably has swallowed something poisonous, but has been drinking chlorinated water from swimming pools too, I took it to one of WA Seabird Rescues favorite home carers Karen Pryce-howells she has wormed and hydrated the bird and hopefully I will be ready for release in a couple of days

24.01.2022 Right here in Australia.

23.01.2022 Hi everyone, good newsthe entangled dolphin in Mandurah (Luca) was captured by DBCA Wildlife Officers and disentangled yesterday morning! All the line was successfully removed, and Luca was treated with a long acting antibiotic injection by Perth Zoo vets who were also on hand. Shortly after being released, Luca and mum Laika were reunited and seen swimming together. They returned to the rock wall of capture around 20 minutes later and appeared relaxed.... Lucas injuries consisted of a line entanglement to the dorsal fin and right pectoral fin resulting in deep lacerations to the leading edge of both fins. The dorsal fin entanglement cut through approximately one-third the fin. The line in the pectoral fin was very firmly embedded in the tissue but had not cut as deep as the bone. Now that the line has been removed, Lucas prognosis for recovery on this occasion is good. Unfortunately, it is expected that both fins will heal with deformities/notches on the leading edge that will predispose Luca to future entanglements in the future. Thankyou to everyone who has helped over the last few months it was a great team effort. Photos: Provided by Sally Kirby and P8080040 supplied by DBCA vets.

20.01.2022 GO PLASTIC FREE THIS JULY. Plastic free fridge (well almost!). Where possible reuse plastic packaging, BYO containers to refill, store food in glass jars and containers or use wax wraps. With some items eg the cabbage we have just left uncovered and will try and use promptly, otherwise could have wrapped in a tea towel. How do you store food without plastic? Plastic Free July

19.01.2022 Tragic! "A mother sperm whale and its baby have died after becoming tangled in a fishing net in the Tyrrhenian Sea off Italys western coast, an Italian environmental group has reported. The Marevivo group said the Italian Coast Guard had responded to the sighting and surmised that the mother, which measured 6 meters (nearly 20 feet), died while trying to free its baby. They were found 8 miles off the coast of Palmarola Island in the Lazio region. It said part of the fishing ...net was found in the mother whales mouth while the baby while was completely covered by it." #StemtheTide https://kmph.com//mother-sperm-whale-and-baby-dead-in-fish

18.01.2022 Around the world July is the month that many people try to reduce their use of Single Use Plastic particularly those bits of plastic you use for a few minutes o...r even just seconds and then discard. Plastic Free July started in Perth! The photo is of a Purple Swamphen rescued some months ago at a small wetland on the grounds of QEII hospital in Nedlands Perth . This poor bird had a ring from the top of a plastic bottle around the back of its neck and through the beak. It could well have starved to death but luckily some local people working at the hospital alerted us and we were able to catch it and cut the plastic ring and free the bird. We see these entanglements regularly . #Plasticfreejuly Plastic Free Mandurah Plastic Free July

17.01.2022 Vomiting plastic From the BBC documentary Drowning in plastic

16.01.2022 Our beautiful solar charged, electric clean up boat - Exstrawdinary One, made from recycled plastic. Last weekend in an event with @seashepherdaustralia and ...@cleanamarina we sailed out to #pointwalter nature reserve which is inaccessible to the public. There was so much wildlife! Nesting Turns, Black Swans, Pelicans, Oyster Catchers, Dolphins and so much more. The majority of the waste collected was soft / micro plastics and the rest made up of glass/ rubber/ fishing line @ Point Walter Reserve See more

15.01.2022 You may not know this...But the waste you throw away ends up coming back full circle . Sadly, this photo isnt far from the truth. Not only are we polluting the ocean and the earth, were also negatively impacting our own health . Reduce Your Plastic Footprint - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Refuse! ... . 14.01.2022 GRAPHIC IMAGES within the video! Another innocent victim, a young sperm whale found to have plastic in its stomach. This video is difficult to watch but for some of us, its necessary. By paying testament to the harsh reality faced by so many marine animals, we can acknowledge their life, suffering and our own complicity.... Whether this peaceful creature died as a result if the plastic or not, is beside the point, the harm a belly full of plastic would have caused this beauty is heartbreaking and unacceptable. No animal should be consuming plastic. The rate of these incidents is increasing, we must act! If you want to help; make changes in your everyday life, attend a beach clean or conduct your own, influence your family and friends, contact state and federal governments, contact large companies and request better alternatives. #StemtheTide #CompassionoverConvenience https://globalnews.ca//52/sperm-whale-dead-plastic-sicily/

12.01.2022 A good watch. Australias responsibility with climate change.

10.01.2022 So far over 200 Turtle hatchlings have been brought into Two Oceans Aquarium This little guy came in from Struisbaai. "One of our recent rescues pooped out a... piece of balloon today ... a reminder again of what these little guys face out there". Balloons are a major cause of plastic pollution and a big threat to hatchlings and other marine animals. Images are from Talitha and Inge in the turtle rehabilitation centre Two Oceans Aquarium. #OceansWithoutLimits

08.01.2022 Stupid is as Stupid Does There is stupid and then there is insanely stupid. Plastic pollution is so bad in this stream in Serbia that it is clogging up the stream behind the bridge. So instead of scooping up the plastic to be trucked away, they are scooping up the plastic on one side of the stream and dumping it on the other side making it a problem for the next community downstream. This pretty much illustrates the state of the world now. Instead of solving the real problem we simply pass on the problem to the next generation.

07.01.2022 A rare native turtle living in our suburbs is at risk of being wiped out, with local councils unable to stop foxes targeting the reptiles. Researchers are now fighting to have its conservation status changed to force authorities to act.

06.01.2022 So much better than the plastic ooshie. Thankyou Woolworths for showing some common sense and initiative.

05.01.2022 #WarOnWaste: Have you ever wondered where your recycled soft plastic bags end up? In a WA first, 40,000 of them have ended up in this road at Port Coogee. The City of Cockburn has tapped Downer EDI Mining to test its reconophalt mix on a laneway in an effort to divert waste from landfill.

05.01.2022 #CompassionoverConvenience Could this be your fork in the stomach of a bird found on an Australian Coastline! Seabirds skim the oceans for food to feed their chicks, what they are finding is a snapshot of what is floating on the oceans and is a reflection of our disposable lifestyles. Many cafes close to the marine environment offer single use cutlery to save on washing up and for convenience so customers are able to take their food and eat it on the beach or park. At be...ach clean ups we regularly find knives forks and spoons discarded by beachgoers. By keeping a reusable cutlery set in your car, bag or picnic basket you can enjoy plastic free picnics knowing that you are making a difference! 04.01.2022 Yet another reason to trade the balloons in for more thoughtful and biodegradable options when celebrating or marking a special event. ...We are now experiencing our third global helium shortage since the dawn of the 21st century, and the first one since an enormous new store of natural helium was found in Tanzania in 2016. The status quo where the vast majority of helium used is wasted on one-time frivolities such as balloons and birthday parties cannot be maintained..

04.01.2022 A slap in the face.

04.01.2022 Little Ferry, Gondolas on Swan and Wildwest Jetboat Charters all enjoy seeing the dolphins, and Cleanamarina make sure the river is free of rubbish and diesel and other pollutants, we clean the river every day, come rain come shine, our electric cleaning boat travels the cleanest and cleans the most. Gotta love our river. Cleanest in the West!

01.01.2022 3 whales have already been caught in shark nets off QLDs Coast this migration season. These floating shark nets dont protect swimmers at all, just give a false sense of security, they are inhumane death traps floating around our oceans indiscriminately killing wildlife. Queensland Government get rid of the shark nets and drum lines and leave the oceans as mother nature intended.
