25.01.2022 While so many things may seem out of our control at the moment, there are still so many things we can do every day to be a better human for ourselves, our community and our planet.

24.01.2022 This #WorldOceansDay we're sharing one big reason to help save our oceans. This incredible humpback whale (surrounded by remora fish, AKA "whale suckers") was captured in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia by @_markfitz on Instagram.

24.01.2022 Whale hello there! If you're new to our page, we're Clean Oceans and we're dedicated to stopping plastics entering our oceans and waterways, with a goal of banning all single use plastics on every Australian beach by 2025. Its an ambitious goal, so we need your help! Spread the word with friends and family and let's make one thing clear our oceans.

23.01.2022 Did you know? Though almost all of the worlds seven species of sea turtles are omnivorous meaning they eat pretty much anything, including jellyfish! As they get older, green sea turtles are mostly herbivorous as adults. Video captured by @jacintashackleton on Instagram.

22.01.2022 Hands up if you think turtles are turtle-y awesome! Sea turtles play a very important role in our marine ecosystem, but these precious animals are endangered. Here's what you can do to help in your community: 1. Remove any litter on the beach... 2. Volunteer for beach clean-ups 3. Carry reusable water bottles and shopping bags 4. Refrain from releasing balloons (they'll likely end up in the ocean) 5. Knock down your sandcastles and fill in holes before you leave the beach. #InternationalTurtleDay Video captured by @jacintashackleton on Instagram.

22.01.2022 A glimmer of hope. Let's make one thing clear! We need to reduce plastic pollution to help protect our precious marine life.

22.01.2022 We all love this aerial shot of Byron Bay, don't we? Well, then let's say NO to single use plastics in 2021, and keep our Australian beaches as clear as it can be.

22.01.2022 A cracking day at Gordon's Bay in Sydney! With so many to choose from, what's your favourite local swimming spot? Image captured by @laura_elyse on Instagram.

21.01.2022 With a reusable bag, of course. #PlasticFreeJuly

21.01.2022 Plastic and other human waste is the biggest threat to our oceans. Let's make one thing clear, we need YOUR help to keep our oceans clean.

21.01.2022 What was your first low waste swap?

20.01.2022 Fish are friends... but they're also food for dolphins! Say hello to Bubbles the dolphin as he swims playfully chasing around a school of big eye trevally on Queensland's Southern Great Barrier Reef. Incredibly captured by @jacintashackleton on Instagram.

20.01.2022 Did you participate in #PlasticFreeJuly? Share your top tips below and let's say no to single-use plastic!

19.01.2022 Microplastics may be small but the impact on fish and other marine life is big. Studies have found that microplastics can disrupt their reproductive systems, stunt growth, diminish appetite, cause tissue inflammation, liver damage, and alter feeding behaviour. The list goes on. In devastating news, AUSMAP, Australia’s leading citizen science initiative that surveys waterways for microplastic data, recently identified a new record for microplastics in NSW, Australia which is now 4,312 pieces per square metre. What will you do differently to make a change?

18.01.2022 Nature is incredible. We're in awe of this ornate eagle ray (Aetomylaeus vespertilio) filmed by Lady Elliot Island Master Reef Guide, Jacinta Shackleton. This endangered species is so rare that there's been just over fifty sightings recorded worldwide! Let's keep our oceans clean so future generations can continue to enjoy them. #WorldNatureConservationDay

17.01.2022 Oceans and seas cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface. Yet they are facing unprecedented threats as a result of our actions. Do you know how much plastic ends up in the world's oceans? Let's keep our oceans clean and look after our beautiful planet! #WorldEnvironmentDay

17.01.2022 Here are a few simple things YOU can do to help protect the ocean. Tag a friend to help spread the message!

13.01.2022 We'd think that 2020 has been a good year for our environment, right? Social distancing keeping people off the roads and out of the skies, air quality has seen drastic improvements around the world. However, the same cannot be said for our oceans. This pandemic has triggered an estimated global use of 129 billion face masks and 65 billion gloves every month. They often see their way into rivers and oceans (as they look like jellyfish). They also happen to be sea turtles' favourite food, so we're going to see more entanglement for turtles and a wide variety of fish. Let's act now and help remove gloves and masks from our clean oceans.

13.01.2022 Never underestimate the change you can make.

13.01.2022 We're proud to provide water filling stations and reusable drink bottles to surf clubs in Sydney completely free of charge. The good people at Premio are offering personalisation for Nippers for the special price of $5 too! Saving the ocean never looked so good.

13.01.2022 Plastic straws suck! Jack Hatfield found a bunch of them while diving at Athol Bay. Enough is enough. Say no to plastic straws and choose a plastic-free alternative it's the least you can do to help save our oceans. Image by @apneajack on Instagram.

12.01.2022 Would you swim with the world's largest fish? That's just what @scottslawinski (on Instagram) did when he captured this incredible footage of Ningaloo Discovery's owner and her daughter swimming alongside this gentle giant. The winter months in Western Australia are some of the best times to spot whale sharks as well as humpback whales during their seasonal migration.

12.01.2022 According to Planet Ark, only 16% of plastic packaging is recovered in Australia compared to 63% of paper and cardboard packaging. We need to improve this statistic and recycle plastic products responsibly. Or better yet, refuse single-use plastic entirely. #NationalRecyclingWeek

11.01.2022 What do you think they are talking about? It's our duty to protect the ocean so more of these little guys get to enjoy our common habitat!

10.01.2022 Prepare to be WOW'd! The worlds largest living animal, a blue whale, was recently spotted at Maroubra Beach. This incredible species can grow up to 32 metres long and it's believed that there's only been two sightings in the region in the past decade! Video captured by @seansperception on Instagram

09.01.2022 We all have a part to play to help protect our planet. Waste less, recycle more and help save our oceans from plastic pollution.

09.01.2022 We need to help protect our precious marine life just as much as our oceans. This is Chunky he's a Hawksbill sea turtle, a critically endangered species with a decreasing population due to illegal harvesting of their shells for jewellery, souvenirs and other items, so please avoid buying genuine turtle shell (or tortoiseshell) and help protect these beautiful creatures. Video by @jacintashackleton on Instagram. Head to her page for more great facts about protecting our oceans and marine life!

08.01.2022 As if you needed another reason to refuse single-use plastic and keep our oceans clean, here's 6 more.

08.01.2022 Do you know why our ocean is blue?Put your hands up if you've asked this question before. The ocean is blue because water absorbs colours in the red part of the light spectrum. Like a filter, this leaves behind colours in the blue part of the light spectrum for us to see. The ocean may also take on green, red, or other hues as light bounces off of floating sediments and particles in the water.

07.01.2022 We our oceans. Who else is dreaming of the Heart Reef in the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef?

07.01.2022 Some ocean facts! 70% of the oxygen we breath come from our oceans 94% of all life on earth is aquatic Humans have explored less than 5% of the world's oceans 2/3 of all marine life remain unidentified... 8 million tonnes of garbage are dumped into the ocean every year. Most of it is, sadly, plastics. See more

06.01.2022 Warning: our corals need us! Up to half of the world's coral reefs have already been lost or severely damaged, and the negative impact continues. Scientists predict that all corals will be threatened by 2050 and 75% will face high to critical threat levels. Let's act now!
