25.01.2022 For 18 years now, the organisation Amiganco, in Rio De Janeiro, have been running clean up events throughout Brazil. Here’s some pictures from their recent efforts as part of Clean Up the World Weekend 2020. Participants adapted to the pandemic wearing masks and gloves and carrying out activities in small groups. 05.01.2022 September 20 - "Clean up the World campaign has been launched in Georgia On September 20, in many countries around the world started an annual international ...cleanup campaign Clean Up the World!, initiated by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in 1992 and uniting more than 130 countries, including Georgia. The campaign is celebrated during the third week of September and the main objective is to mobilize the world community and bring together governments, businesses, community groups, schools, and individuals for carrying out large-scale clean up actions and implementation of relevant environmental programmes aimed at improving local environment. On September 20, in parallel with global campaign, large-scale cleaning actions were held throughout the country. As part of the "Clean Up the World" -" Keep Georgia Tidy" campaign, about 1 hectare of land adjacent to the Tbilisi Sea area was cleared and about 4 m3 of waste was collected. About 100 volunteers took part in Tbilisi Sea action. In cleanup action together with organizers took part part H.E. Ulrik Tideström - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia and Armenia, Mr. Eric Illes - Head of Development Co-operation , Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili - Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; H.E. Kai Kaarelson - Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Georgia, Mr Marko Soldic - Counsellor, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Kingdom of Norway to Georgia, representatives of Keep Georgia Tidy project implementing organizations, employees of LEPL Environmental Information and Education Centre, Solid Waste Management Company, Environmental Protection Service of Abkhazia, Pupils of Public School # 3 of Abkhazia, Tbilisi City Council members, staff of Ltd Tbilservice Group, volunteers. In addition to Tbilisi, clean-up actions were carried out in the regions of Georgia, organized by the Regional Coordinators of the Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth-Georgia and representatives of local governments. Clean Up the World campaign is carried out in Georgia as part of Keep Georgia Tidy project, with financial support of the Government of Sweden and implemented by NGO consortium "Keep Georgia Tidy (KGT), The Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers Orchis jointly with local and Swedish partner organizations and in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, LEPL Environmental Information and Education Centre, Solid Waste Management Company.
