25.01.2022 There a few options when it comes to teaching your dog how to do a Finish to basic (heel) position in IGP obedience. Which does your dog do?

23.01.2022 Slobber buddies for life Living together in harmony. #downtime #hunterthegrunter #workinglinegsd #balance #dogsandbabies #mentalclarity

18.01.2022 Locomotion isnt just about movement... It is about mood. It is about relationship. It is about harmony.... With the right mood comes power in the work. And with the right relationship comes longevity in the work. If you want dynamic expression in your dogs heel work you must focus on fluidity. Whether prancing, an elegant strut or the freedom of choice - pick a style that allows you both to move in sync. When your heel feels effortless thats when you have true harmony.

18.01.2022 Client wrap ups: E-Collar application and behaviour modification with Jett and Raider (Gun dogs: 5 multi-dog household - top photo). It was beautiful to see the end of our session bring some peace between these two handsome lads. After being put through their paces during the lesson these two boys were able to relax in each others presence at the end, with Jett even being comfortable (and mentally exhausted enough) to lay down and close his eyes. These were two dogs ...Continue reading

18.01.2022 Your dog is protection trained. Hes dangerous! I have three high drive working line GSDs who train and compete in the sport of Schutzhund/IGP. We compete in tracking, obedience and the star phase of the show...protection. There is a common misconception that protection trained dogs are dangerous. The perception is that because these dogs are trained to bite they are a liability and unstable. This could not be further from the truth....Continue reading

16.01.2022 SHADOW - A beautiful success story. Last year we boarded an amazing 8wk old puppy from Bellissimo Labradoodles for 4 weeks. One of their many amazing puppies we have had the privilege of regularly having in our home. Shadow was in training to become a potential future assistance dog for her owner Grace.... We are incredibly proud to say that Shadow has gone on to achieve her assistance dog certification To say we are over the moon is an understatement. Not only has Grace succeeded in her goal for Shadow, but Shadow has been a saving grace, so to speak, for her family too. Grace was lovely enough to allow me to share her message she sent me with you all. What an amazing outcome for two of the most amazing beings Hi Sharonika, Its Grace and Shadow. I hope you have been well. I just want to let you know I have passed your details onto one of my really good friends. I have highly recommended you as a trainer. The skills that you instilled in Shadow has made my life so easy. Shadow passed all her tests with flying colours. And she has honestly given my life back. This was all thanks to you and the hard work you put in and at the start of her life. Having Shadow has been such a pleasurable experience. From the moment we picked her up from the airport she has been an angel. Having her conditioned to the clicker made my life so easy. She can be trained to do anything and thats all because of the hard work you put in for the first few crucial weeks of her life. She motivates me every day to get up and out of bed. She has given my life back. I never feel scared when I have her by my side. I take her to the shops with me and shes always an angel. She creates barrier and distance between others. She distracts me when I get anxious. She can smell when anxiety comes from a mile away and thats just not on me thats for everyone. You wouldnt believe it if I told you. I moved home with my mum and Shadow wouldnt leave my mum alone and was completely all over her. If she couldnt see her she would bark. So we started to look into it and it said maybe my mum might be sick. So we went and got tests done and turns out she has breast cancer. We are lucky we found it when we did as mum has a fighting chance to beat this. Grace, thank you so much for sharing your journey with me and for trusting me with your little Shadownow your Shadow forever in life

16.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS SARAH AND ANNIE!! They have graduated to INTERMEDIATE class with North Coast K9 Academy!! Annie had a rather unfortunate start to life. In the first 9 months of her life she had little human interaction, which led her to be quite nervous of new people. Luckily for Annie at the age of 12 months she landed herself in a wonderful home with her new owner Sarah Freeman. Sarah has dedicated an incredible amount of time helping this beautiful girl flourish. Sar...ah knew Annie had it in her to become something incredible and she was 100% right. I am incredibly blessed to have been a part of helping Annie on her journey to becoming a confident, social girl. Watching Sarah and Annie go on to bloom even more in the very capable hands of all the trainers who have helped build Annie to even greater heights at the amazing North Coast K9 Academy has been even more incredible to watch! I have a lot of respect for the trainers at NCK9A. If you are ever after amazing obedience classes over their way please make sure to look them up. Your dog will thank you for it Here is where Annie came from, just so you can see how much she has come in leaps and bounds since she first started her journey into the big, wide world. So proud of you Sarah and Annie. So proud! GO NCK9A!!! 14.01.2022 DOGS AND BABIES So we did a thing. We had a baby! As I stare lovingly at the serenity in which my newborn baby sleeps, I cant help but wonder how lucky I am to have this little bundle come in to our life. Everything has changed, for the better, and I cannot wait to do life with her. I cannot wait to hear her first words (they better be Mumma ), to watch her crawl, take her first steps, to run and play tag with her, let her feel the sand between her toes, the water ...Continue reading

14.01.2022 Want tight turns? A common mistake is a handler who tries to beat their dog on the turn. Twisting around as fast as you can doesnt teach your dog how to turn faster. For a dog who is just learning, doing this will actually slow the dog down. If you want a fast, tight turn then first teach your dog how to do it slowly. Let them feel your position. Let them feel their body relative to you. Allow them to find their feet, so to speak. Once they understand how to move with you thats when the punch will come in the exercise. Dont force the speed. The dog will let you know when it is ready for speed And better yet, the dog will give you that speed without even being asked. Let them love the exercise and the rest will come. Remember...with confidence comes conviction. With conviction comes speed

13.01.2022 Food, mood, play, interaction, distraction... In the right combinations these applications can create a dynamic training experience for your dog. Not just in the foundation work, but something that can continue to be applied for the life of your dog. Training is about constantly reading your dog. We must learn how to adjust the dose of each of the above in order for growth to occur in our ever evolving training journey. When you can do this you will create a dog who loves not... just what you bring to the experience but a dog who falls in love with the work itself. You have the tools there. Use them to your advantage, and your dogs.

12.01.2022 We are going live tomorrow night, 4th July, with Snout Scout - The Dog Family 5-6pm India time (9:30pm QLD time) Thank you to the wonderful Priyancka Patkki for the invitation I am looking forward to chatting with you and the pet parents of India ... Be sure to tune in! We would love to see you there

11.01.2022 This is a daily occurrence in our house. Time outside, soaking up the fresh air and sunshine watching our dogs have their free time. This chill time has been happening for years, well before bub arrived. And continues to this very day. Now with our extra addition This time with our dogs is very important and valuable to us. Especially now that our home life has changed. Keeping your dogs routine as familiar as possible, even with necessary changes that are needed with the ...arrival of a new baby, is essential to ensure that your home remains a place of familiarity for your dogs. Its a great way to also integrate your little one into the family with the least amount of disruption. Our outside (and inside) time with our dogs, while spent together with our little one, is spent with some mandatory expectations by me between them all. Teaching your dogs to respect your babys area, to give space, having a cue for your dogs to prevent and/or de-escalate any high arousal behaviours, to teach our dogs context in regards to when they need to exhibit self-control in non-training scenarios, having a means or way to mechanically separate your dog/s and babies where required, etc, are just some of the skills needed so that smooth introduction, integration and acceptance can occur. Our guys know that when I sit down on that chair that its their time now to just be. This means no formal training, the odd ball toss, pats, no nagging or pushing me, to go play with your toys or each other...just to name a few. I know my dogs better than anybody else. And because of this understanding I can choose without any concern when contact based interactions are made and the frequency of when those moments occur. Get to know your dogs...HONESTLY know your dogs...and you will be able to use that to your utmost advantage when training them for anything.

10.01.2022 Speed in an exercise comes from: The right amount of repetitions The dogs confidence in the exercise Clarity in handler communication... Sufficient reward history and value A fire from within for the dog to WANT to do These five things are key factors in creating the motivation your dog needs to give it their all in any training exercise they perform. Once they have the motivation, tapping into that accelerator is much easier

05.01.2022 MISSING EMAILS If we have not responded to your email enquiries please know that we have not ignored you! I have just gone through my spam folder and found a handful of emails in there from the last couple of months. My sincere apologies to anyone who has not gotten a response at all.... A couple of emails that I moved to my inbox have also somehow disappeared. Im unsure as to why, though one was for a request from a gentleman for training for a Rottie who attempted to contact me twice, and another was from a lady enquiring into Skype lessons for IGP work. The others which I have retrieved I will respond to anyway for what its worth :) We are currently in the process of switching some things technically so that hopefully we dont run into these issues as much as we have. Thank you for your understanding

04.01.2022 Heeling...the endless possibilities.

04.01.2022 Control doesnt have to be mundane. And neither does it have to be a dictatorship. Control can be used as an injector To create power, conviction and commitment. Not just for the thing that your dog desires. But for the portal that brings your dog that very greatness...you.

04.01.2022 In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger.....ILL BE BACK!! We are sorry things have been rather quiet on the airways these past few months, but it is for good reason. While we thrive on helping people with their four legged companions, we have a little companion of our own who we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of. The two legged variety! And who is due to arrive in just a few short weeks now! Understandably we have had to push quite a few training bookings and pre-plan...ned workshops back until later in the year (some now already penciled in ready to go!). We will let you know when we are back in action so keep an eye out for announcements down the track! As we welcome the new arrival and immerse ourselves in all things sleep deprivation related we may still run posts intermittently during the break. But if you still notice tumbleweeds, youll know why Thanks to all of my clients for their incredible support and eagerness to run lessons right up until last week when it was time for me to finally put my feet up We were fully booked (in fact over booked!) with private clients, board and trains and Skype clients . To those who missed the timeframe for bookings, Im so sorry, but I look forward to catching up with you later in the year when Im back Your excitement, well wishes and patience are appreciated! Until then folks...happy training! And thanks for your understanding #astalavistababy
