24.01.2022 Intrinsic drivers are considered to be the strongest and most lasting motivators, especially in early childhood, but positive feedback can support and reinforce the inherent feelings of satisfaction or pleasure. Centre on the Developing Child, Harvard University.

23.01.2022 Professor Pauline Taylor-Guy, Director of the ACER Institute and the Centre for School and System Improvement, reflecting upon how schools have adapted to ‘emergency remote teaching’, stated recently it’s been an opportunity for teachers and schools to think about different ways that they were going to be using their resources, including how they are going to be contacting and working with parents to be able to just continue the learning the best way that they can and In Australia we’ve managed to keep things going and, in fact, some students have thrived during this situation.

21.01.2022 Many gifted children are voracious readers. Research has shown that as children grow as readers, they should play an active role in selecting their own reading materials. Choice is motivating for readers and helps develop a lasting love of reading. Although based upon American students’ reading patterns and not specifically about gifted students, the report What Kids Are Reading provides information about students’ reading habits and might be used to gauge your child’s reading level and suggest further reading material. https://www.renaissance.com/learning-analytics/wkar/

20.01.2022 Building a mutually respectful relationship with your child’s teacher from day one and viewing each other as partners in the education process builds a wonderful base for future communication and trusting relationships,’’ said Dr Linda Willis at Griffith University.

19.01.2022 My own research (which was not specifically about health issues) identified 56.25% of gifted children whose parents participated in this research, experience various allergies or intolerances. Recent research by the European Lung Foundation has identified asthma is three times higher in teenagers who go to bed late at night and the risk of allergic rhinitis is double the usual rate for late sleepers. Correlation or causation?

11.01.2022 Karen Rambo-Hernandez of West Virginia University and Matthew Makel of Duke looked at math and reading performance; they compared students who tested at the mean in 3rd grade with those students who tested about three grade levels ahead of that, then followed both groups' growth through 5th grade. "The farther you started from your school's mean, the slower your growth," Rambo-Hernandez said. "In reading, the students who started at two standard deviations above the mean had much slower growth during the school year. So there was a real question as to whether or not those students were benefiting at all from their time in school."

07.01.2022 Adults teach children that certain four-letter words should be deleted from their vocabularies. Holly Hagman says that adults should delete the four letter word ‘EASY’ from our vocabularies. Many gifted children believe that activities are either easy or impossible, without understanding the role of effort and persistence in accomplishing a task. By deleting the word ‘easy’ from our vocabularies, we will not be enticing children to do things only if they believe effort will not be required.
