25.01.2022 For anyone who’s been missing Cleland parkrun over recent months, I thought I’d throw up a somewhat random sample of shots I’ve taken on some of my Saturday (or other day) walks there. Not only has there been quite a range of weather conditions (sunny but very windy today) but the time of day has varied from morning to late afternoon. So have the kangaroos. None at all this morning; on other days, small groups loomed suddenly out of the mist; and one sunny afternoon I counted about 20 on the side of the hill. I think there tend to be more as the day wears on. But I don’t think I have any photos from the cold, wet day when I left my headlights on and had to get the RAA down to recharge my battery. They arrived after the gates were due to shut...

23.01.2022 What do you all think? Whatever the answer, that one on the right is certainly a nice photo. Looks like a great place for a run

17.01.2022 Thanks to all those who braved the cold wind this morning. Well done. Hope to see you again soon!

15.01.2022 See you on the other side!

14.01.2022 Do you miss this view? Do you miss our famous parkrun? Do you miss challenging yourself up our little hill? Then look forward to Saturday 21 November, when we're officially back. Our volunteer team got together yesterday morning, did a little recon then discussed who was volunteering in what role over coffee. We're looking forward to seeing you back after what seems like 8 years rather than 8 months.

12.01.2022 Things have been understandably quiet on this page lately, but I’ve been making a point of going to Long Ridge Lookout at some point every Saturday since the shutdown, and it’s been interesting to see it at different times of day. Yesterday there were big, fluffy, stories-in-the-sky cumulus clouds on the way out and more threatening greys among the stratus and cirrus by the time I got to the lookout. And a huge mob of about 15 kangaroos grazing lazily near the Winter Track tu...rnoff. They must have felt there was safety in numbers, because they were there on my way down _and_ back, and not in the least spooked by the passing walkers and bikers. Philosophical parkrun question #1: Is it actually cheating to use an electric bike to whizz down at breakneck speed yelling to people to get out of the way, or might he have just lost control...? Philosophical parkrun question #2: What bit of the social distancing thing is it that people don’t get when they spread out across the track four abreast without recognising that oncoming walkers are very-not-socially-distanced as they have to squeeze their way between members of the group? Hope you’re all keeping well and coping with your parkrun withdrawal symptoms. (I feel sad every time I drive back past the empty Crafers pub, but hasten to add that’s not the only thing I miss about parkrun... )

10.01.2022 Would you like a roo with your view? This awaits you at the turnaround point (subject to favourable weather and cooperative locals) after we set off at 8am next Saturday 21st November. Looking forward to seeing you. #parkrunreturn

05.01.2022 Parkrun Global are providing weekly updates on COVID-19 restrictions (the link can be found below). For us, parkrun will remain closed until the end of the month. From there, parkrun events will not open in any country until Parkrun Global can do so across the entire country, safely and without compromising any public health guidelines in the country. Please know that while we are all keen to get back out there, smashing out our parkrun PBs, your health and safety is our number one priority. https://blog.parkrun.com//covid-19-coronavirus-update-2-ju

01.01.2022 How does this sound for a new Strava segment? Downhill with some flat bits, and a little rise to the turn. A view over the city, and a vertical thing to go clockwise round at the turn, then uphill with some flats back to the start/finish. 5.0k all the way, over 130m of up (I think), and running all the way is a challenge. Parking near the start, and not far from the wildlife park, numerous other trails, and the Crafers hotel. Nice wide tracks for safe distancing from a few ...walkers and cyclists, and the possibility of kangaroos, koalas, and at least 1 echidna. Sounds familiar? I've called it 'Down the Hill and back 5k' and its from the 2nd 'Dip' sign near the top of the Old Bullock Track, down to the Travers track sign and back. Don't all go there on Saturday morning, or in any kind of a group, but the course record is currently a very beatable 31:39. Any other candidates for Cleland solo alternatives in these peculiar times? See more
