08.01.2022 At 5.40pm today, our brigade siren was sounded in honour of the four police officers who lost their lives at that time last week. At the same time Emerald's eme...rgency services laid a wreath at the Emerald Police station and observed a one minute silence. Emerald CFA, Clematis CFA, Emerald SES and Emerald Ambulance gathered, not only to pay our respects to the lost Officers, but as a show of support, mateship and camaraderie to all at Victoria Police. #weworkasone

07.01.2022 Planned Burn - Emerald Quarry (between Sunnyside Road & Emerald - Monbulk Road) Ignition of the burn will take place Wednesday 1 April 2020 if conditions remai...n suitable What is happening? A planned burn is being undertaken to reduce overall fuel loads and bushfire risk to local properties. How does planned burning help reduce bushfire risk to communities? Planned burning reduces the amount of vegetation available to burn in the event of a bushfire in the area. Dead plant material within the burn area will be reduced and it is hoped that there will be an increase in species diversity in the area. What planning has gone into the burn? The CFA has prepared a detailed plan for the site including various environmental and cultural heritage checks. How will we ensure the fire doesn’t escape? Many precautions are taken to ensure the safety of local communities, firefighters and the natural environment. The CFA will have numerous brigades and fire vehicles on site during the burn and in the day(s) after as deemed necessary until the burn is declared safe. How can I stay up to date with the latest information? You can subscribe to notifications for Planned Burns in your area on the Planned Burns Victoria website (www.plannedburns.ffm.vic.gov.au). A notification will also occur on the VicEmergency app upon ignition (check your notification settings to ensure they include Fire/ Planned Burns). What can I expect on the day of the burn? You may see fire vehicles and increased traffic in the area during operations. The burn area and some surrounding areas may have restricted public access. There may be smoky conditions in the area. It is therefore advisable to: Keep doors & windows closed Bring washing inside Keep pets indoors Remain indoors if you are elderly or have respiratory problems If you experience symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, seek medical advice or contact NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24. How will we protect plants and animals? Environmental Values checking has been conducted on the site to avoid impacts to values within the burn area. Habitat trees have been identified and will be marked and avoided. The burn will be lit at a slow pace to allow animals to move to other nearby areas of bush.

07.01.2022 If you hear our siren sounding please don’t be alarmed.

03.01.2022 Earlier this evening we were paged to support Emerald Fire Brigade (CFA) to a grass fire caused by power lines coming down. This video demonstrates the importance of staying well clear of any downed power lines.

03.01.2022 This past weekend we assisted Emerald Fire Brigade (CFA) along with Macclesfield Fire Brigade at a planned burn behind Emerald Secondary College. Planned burning is an important part of reducing fire risk and unfortunately there is only a small window of opportunity throughout the year. The Covid-19 Pandemic certainly adds an extra element to planned burning but everyone in attendance ensured that the recommended social distance was kept along with frequent hand washing and sanitization, basic steps were taken ensuring the safety of all who were in attendance.
