25.01.2022 Skin Cleansers: Everyday, there are residual metabolites on the skin that react with oxygen, sun and skin micro-organisms to form harmful materials and cause skin trouble. Thus, cleansing is a necessary daily skincare practice even for normal skin. Skin cleansers are products that cleanse skin to help keep the skins physiological condition normal. There are different types of cleansing products used depending on the types of materials to be removed from the skin or the skin ...condition. There are two types of skin cleansers depending on the formulation. 1- Surfactant type skin cleansers which includes soap bars, liquid cleanser, paste or aerosol type cleansers and facial cleansing powder. They have excellent cleansing abilities. Due to their physio chemical nature,surfactant type cleansers not only remove soils but also tend to strip useful substances from the skin, as skin lipids and natural moisturising factors Which are the key components of the skin barrier functions. Thus, in selecting surfactant type cleansers, its important to choose products that have selective detergents and suitable PH to avoid such adverse effect. Generally, soap free surfactant type cleansers do not cause such adverse effect. 2- Solvent type cleansers are mainly used to remove oily cosmetics applied to the skin. this type is further categorised to cleansing creams,lotions,liquids or gels. The use of make up products such as waterproof or non-staining and long-lasting lipsticks require the use of special cleansers to remove them. In order to avoid excess burden to the skin and achieve effective cleansing of oily deposit the product has to be soluble, dispersible and washable.
