20.01.2022 The end of the year is a time for reflection, and we are excited to celebrate our achievements. Time to blow our own trumpets and shout from the rooftop some of the wins we have had in 2020, despite Covid-19! In partnership with Glencore we were able to provide 5 months complimentary accommodation for a Doctor. #ruralhealth #clermont4doctors #wins

19.01.2022 Congratulations Dr Bruce Chater Theodore's Dr Bruce Chater has been awarded the Australian Medical Association's Queensland Rural Health Medal. Dr Chater ...has worked and advocated for rural health for more than 40 years and has been involved in establishing the world's first college of rural and remote medicine. He says he's honoured to receive the award. "Certainly I'll try and be an ambassador over the next year as I have over the last 40 years, to try and make sure rural people are looked after."

15.01.2022 Better pop an extra one in the trolley, you know - just in case.

15.01.2022 Michelle, you are incredible!!

15.01.2022 If all the rural incentives and programs available were actually delivering support to rural medical training and practices, then rural would be a premiere medi...cal training pathway and a career of choice. There is well over $1 billion invested in rural medical training and workforce initiatives each year, but the majority of this isn’t making it out any further than large regional centres. We need to ensure that Government support for rural, goes rural. It shouldn’t be frittered away by city-based organisations with funds being chewed through in administration and duplication. Rural intended funds should be invested in truly rural and remote areas that means reclassifying rural to be recognised as MMM 3 to 7 communities not MMM 2 to 7 as currently applies across many government programs. 04.01.2022 This morning is an unusual post for the page, however, I received some comments regarding the project which have had a real impact on me this morning. The comment in question was "You can't get Doctors in Clermont because no one wants to live there." Considered valid coming from someone who chooses not to live here, and work FIFO. But here is what got me thinking... FIFO employee comes to Clermont week on week off. Has residential friends. Many with kids. Some of his friends... have kids with chronic illnesses. Previous colleagues have had to relocate their entire family because there was no access to medical care in Clermont. FIFO numbers are not included in figures when Governments calculate how many Doctors a town needs. FIFO workers have access to these same services. FIFO workers use town services. Water, sewerage, and yes - Hospitals. If a FIFO worker is in an industrial accident, will they still consider it acceptable for the town to not have a permanent Doctor because "no one wants to live there" when a Doctor is not available to provide emergency or sufficient care? FIFO workers get the benefit of great wages and lifestyle working in towns such as Clermont and go home to an abundance of services. I pose the question to the Government. Why are FIFO worker numbers not included when calculating community need, when their impact is significant? The point I would like to make to the FIFO worker. If more people lived in Clermont, we would have the numbers to be allocated another Doctor, no need to find one tucked away with the Christmas Tree. The town's livability in that capacity will increase, encouraging more to the area as a flow-on. FIFO workforce impacts small towns and their ability to attract sufficient services. It does not make it OK for the Government to ignore the needs of rural Queenslanders and their health and it does not make it OK for the needs of local residents to be dismissed.

03.01.2022 Following our launch, we received a much-welcomed phone call from Mark Coulton MP's office requesting further information about the project. We would love to speak further with him regarding rural health in Clermont. Thanks, Dale Last - Member for Burdekin for pushing the project to the people who need to see it! #ruralhealth #clermont4doctors
