What's next on your Netflix list "Bodyguard, Tiger King, and next will be Ozark." How are you keeping Active "Moving house, walking, and doing some cycling and weight training." How has the lock down been so far "I was knocked down with shingles to begin with, so it has been good to get the time to recover. I started studying towards a bachelor of counselling and have found Netflix!" What have you been doing during the lock down "Lock down has given me the chance to recharge and recover after 27 years straight with minimal holidays." What Do you miss most at the moment "Being at work, and having fun with the team!" What's one thing your still plan to do during the lock down? "Lose another 10kg!!" 23.01.2022 Heading to one of Australias amazing beaches for a picnic or a swim is a great outing or weekend idea now that restrictions have eased. Yet, while we may not always be swimming, its still important to remember what we have learnt about water safety! Here are some quick reminders for all of our swimmers out there.... If visiting the beach with children, ensure an adult is present at all times. If youre going for a swim on your own, learn about rips. The water may look calm, but rips can be hard to see! Ask a lifeguard if youre unsure. Remember to be sun smart. Even though the sky may not appear to be sunny, the UV rays can still be strong. And lastly, have fun! See more
23.01.2022 Research has indicated that sitting for prolonged periods can be bad for your health. The more hours you spend sitting daily, the greater the risk of metabolic problems. It is easy to find simple activities to keep moving throughout the day!

22.01.2022 Cleveland Aquatic Centre will be closed until October 2020 for essential maintenance work under plans agreed by Council and centre operator Belgravia Leisure. A Redland City Council spokesperson said the mandated COVID-19 closure of the Aquatic Centre in March had been an opportunity for more detailed centre revitalisation and maintenance investigation. Council has since applied for Works for Queensland grant funding to support the works identified for the Centre.... We are looking forward to bringing you the details of maintenance and revitalisation once grant funding is announced. For more information on the works to be completed, please see the full media statement here: https://clevelandac.com.au/contact-us/centre-closure
22.01.2022 As summer approaches, we would like to remind you about safety in public pools (and at home or around bodies of water for that matter). As part of the Keep Watch Program at Cleveland AC, the following rules apply: 0-5 years: In the water and within arms reach at all times 6-10 years: Constant active supervision by a parent or a guardian 16+ 11-14 years: Active Supervision... Active supervision consists of four key elements: Be Prepared: Ensure you have everything you need before getting into the water, such as towels and dry clothes. Be Close: Always be within arms' reach of your child. All of Your Attention: Focus all of your attention on your child and get into the pool and talk and play with them. All of the Time: You should never leave your child alone in the water, nor should they be left in the care of an older child or with the assumption that your responsibility diminishes due to the presence of lifeguards. Lack of supervision is believed to be a contributing factor of 70% of drownings in public pools. Please be diligent and abide by the Keep Watch regulations. And don't forget, if you intend on taking your 0-5 year old swimming before or after lessons, you will need your bathers
22.01.2022 Many of us have had to make changes to our everyday routines, including the ways we are moving. So, if you are finding some newfound tension in your back, you are definitely not alone! To help get you moving again, here are some great tips on how we can get up and move during the day! Here are five great ways you can help you move more and reduce back pain:... 1. Set a movement reminder - Set a timer or reminder for every 30 minutes to move during the day or at work. 2. Break up your sitting time - If possible, try using a standing desk or getting up and getting some fresh air outside. 3. Dont go straight to the next episode - Try to get up, do some washing or stretches before you watch another TV series episode! 4. Go for a walk - Walking is a great low impact way to allow your body to move. Try and schedule in a 30-minute walk each day at lunchtime or before or after work. 5. Make time for exercise - One of the best things you can do for you back is exercise regularly! Now that leisure facilities are opening again, stretching and strengthening your back are fantastic options that can help with lower back pain and pain in general. Find out more on our website blog!

Maria had only joined us just prior to the lead in of COVID Role: swimming instructor, lifeguard and Aqua instructor in the previous pool. In Cleveland Aquatic centre just started on Feb. As swimming instructor. The stimulating aspect of this job has always been the direct interaction with people, above all children, supporting them to achieve theirs goals or even winning their fears. Netf...lix list? Series like: Money Heist, Animal Kingdom, always waiting new episodes otherwise movies, my preferences? French movies. Sport/hobbies that help me to stay active: scuba diving ( my biggest passion), kayaking with family, running after the dog and my 3 kids who are obviously all faster than me. What was kept you busy over the last couple of months? We just moved to Brisbane from Hervey-bay ( I am Italian and we moved in Australia with my husband and our 3 kids 4 years ago) so NOT working for a while was relaxing. I spent time helping kids with the homeschooling, than I did a lot of beach walks, cooking, I studied for my PADI Dive Master course and my house and garden have never been so clean. What I miss most now? At the moment I really miss what I always miss: my family and friends in Italy, the snow and skying because my hometown in Italy is in the Alps, and I missed scuba diving because clearly , during the lock down, all the Diving centre were closed. And obviously working and meet people. My planning now ... To pass my final Dive Master exam, to spend amazing time with family and with ours new friends and more in general to start a new chapter of our life here in Brisbane.

15.01.2022 December Pool Updates via Redland CIty Council 11 Dec 2020 The latest update on our all-important 50-metre pool filters is that they are now on the last leg of their journey to Brisbane. After further delays, the vessel carrying the filters departed Malaysia’s Port Klang on 7 December.... If all goes well, the filters are now expected to arrive in Brisbane on 23 December. The filters will then need to go through Australian custom clearance before being available for installation at the Aquatic Centre. A team of contractors remain on stand-by and committed to installing the new filters as soon as they clear customs and arrive on-site. It is now expected that the filters could be installed and the pool operational by the middle of January. The combination of the global Covid-19 pandemic, industrial action, weather and increased capacity issues in ports, is having a major impact on sea freight schedules around the world. Globally, most companies are experiencing between six weeks and longer lead times than standard. The pool filters are a critical piece of equipment. They were procured from overseas only after no submission was received for supply of a suitable local Australian manufactured product. A large amount of upgrade and improvement work has been completed at the centre. Once this crucial final element is complete, the community will have access to a quality and enjoyable aquatic centre for many years to come. See more

09.01.2022 For some time our Cleveland Aquatic Centre unfortunately had been without a Centre Manager, so today for our "Meet The Team" we are going to introduce to those who have not already met him, Ashley. Length of service: 8 months with Belgravia, 8 years in the industry The best thing about your role... For me there are three foundations that motivate me and equally create enjoyment in my role as Centre Manager. First and foremost is safety. Firstly, providing a safe facility both for staff and patrons alike is of the utmost importance. Secondly, working as a team. Every team member has a different role, and my role in the team is facilitate everyones development personally and professionally in order for them to recognise their potential. Thirdly, passion for health, wellbeing and performance. We are in a unique position where we are able to influence peoples lives for the better, whether it be achieving a high level of athletic performance, teaching kids how to swim and prevent drownings, or as simple as teaching good strong movement patterns to the ageing community and increasing the enjoyment of life. What next on your Netflix list? Space Force.. Steve Carell, John Malkovich and the creators of The Office, need I say more? How are you keeping active? Luckily I had the use of a garage gym setup to continue basic strength training for the last couple of months, I also walk the Wynnum Manly foreshore most days. What has kept you busy over the last couple of months? There has been a lot going on behind the scenes to prepare the facility for the post-COVID opening. Aside from that I have been training and reading a few books (Ross Edgleys new book The Art of Resilience was just released so Im excited to start that!). What are you most excited for with restrictions easing? It means we are closer to open date! I cant wait to get back into the facility running full steam. Im also excited to get back into a serious training program and push for the Mens Physique State Titles in October. Hobbies? I love to go on a decent mountain hike, spend A LOT of time on the coast, spearfishing, and strength training/physique sport. Basically anything active! Fun Fact about yourself? Im a Kiwi but I was born in WA, so there is some contention as to which county I belong to!
