24.01.2022 Home Theatre Tips - 5. Screen Type The screen and screen material is just as important as the projector itself and must be suited to the application, projector and environment Screen Material: While you could point your new HD projector at a white wall or a cheap screen on eBay, this is not going to achieve the best results. ... Most reputable screen manufacturers produce screen materials for specific applications. For example, many theatre projectors have relatively low brightness, but are capable of producing full high definition images with very good contrast ratio. The most suitable type of screen for this application may be a white screen which has gain to improve the apparent viewing brightness. Screen Type: You can choose between a fixed screen or motorised roller screen. The fixed screen is great in dedicated home theatres and can be concealed behind a motorised curtain when not in use. Fixed screens are available with micro-perforations which allow speakers to be placed behind out of view without detracting from the projected image or sound quality. However, a fixed screen could easily be damaged, so if the theatre room doubles as a rumpus room or games room, a motorised screen that can be retracted out of the way would be more suitable.

19.01.2022 Home Theatre Tips - 3. Loudspeakers The size and quality of your theatre loudspeakers will be dependent on the space available and your budget, but the rules for speaker positioning remain the same for every system. Home theatres will usually have surround sound, which is described with two numbers e.g. '5.1' or '7.1'. The first digit is the number of full-range speakers in the system and the second digit refers to the number of sub-bass speakers. For example, a 5.1 system ...has five full-range speakers and one sub. Each of the speakers, or pairs of speakers, has a specific role and their placement is critical for good performance. Front centre speaker: This is the most important speaker as this carries most of the dialogue and any centre-screen effects. It needs to be located directly beneath the centre of the screen or display. Front left and right: These guys have the job of reproducing the movie score and most of the effects. The front left and right speakers should be placed as far apart as possible in order to achieve left and right channel separation, thus improving the stereo effect. Surround left and right: These speakers bring sound effects into the room and enable directional effects, such as a helicopter flying over-head. They are also the ones which suffer from misplacement most often. The surround speakers should be placed to the left and right of your seated position, not behind. Rear surround: The rear surround speakers add to the depth created by the surround speakers and are placed further back than the surround speakers, or possibly mounted at the rear of the theatre. Sub bass: The sub bass adds another dimension to the home theatre audio experience in providing that earth shattering bass sound that we all love to hear at the movies. The sub is able to produce the low frequency sounds that the other speakers can't handle. The placement of the sub is less critical than the other speakers as low frequency sounds are less directional than higher frequencies. A single sub will usually be position at the front of the room close to one of the front speakers. Dolby Atmos adds another dimension to theatre sound by adding pairs of over-head speakers in front of and behind the seating position. This means that sound effects can be placed anywhere in a 3-D space. This is very cool and worth experiencing at your local cinema to hear it for yourself. Dolby Atmos systems add an extra digit to our code, so you may see as Atmos system described as 7.1.4, with the 4 indicating four overhead speakers.

16.01.2022 Home Theatre Tips - 4. What screen size do I need? When considering a new TV or projector, bigger isn't always better. There are several formulas out there to help you choose the ideal size. According to the THX Theatre Certification Standards, if you want the full 'cinema experience' then the screen needs to occupy a 40 degree field-of-view from your seating position. Put simply, measure the distance from your seat to the wall and multiply by 0.84 to get the ideal diago...nal screen size. For example, if you sit three metres away then you need a 2.52m screen. SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) suggest a 30 degree angle, which means you multiply the viewing distance by 0.625. So now our three meter position gives us 1.875m or 73 inches - so well within the range for current TV screens. Remember that these are only guides. One tip is to mark the wall with some masking tape indicating the size (width, height and corners) of the screen you have in mind. How does it feel? Does it dominate the space? It's much easier to make changes when it's just tape stuck to the wall! For a full design consultation for your home theatre project contact Clever Living today!

16.01.2022 Home Theatre Tips - 1. Lighting Getting the lighting right is an essential part of home theatre design. Ideally there should be no natural light present in the theatre. Blinds or drapes will need to completely block all natural light. When fitting the drapes, it is imperative that there is no light spill, as this affects the contrast and brightness of the image and degrade the viewing experience.... Artificial light is essential in creating specific light scenes and task lighting within the theatre. It can also create a specific look, feel or tone. A few artificial lighting tips worth considering are: - Avoid shining light onto your projection screen - Consider using coloured light to enhance the look of the theatre space -Pendant lights need be clear of the projector sight-lines to avoid silhouettes -Choose an iPad controlled lighting system to save trips to the light switch in the dark! 16.01.2022 Home Theatre Tips - 2. Acoustics Anyone can add speakers to a space and make it loud. It takes careful consideration to make a theatre space sound exceptional. There are some simple design steps to help a theatre space work well acoustically. Avoid parallel surfaces to reduce the effect of reflected sound ... Install carpet. This will not only enhance the acoustics, but it will provide a plush theatre feel Carpet should have a high quality underlay. Avoid laying the carpet directly onto the existing timber or concrete floor Acoustic panels with decorative coverings can be mounted to the walls to absorb reflected sound Pay attention to speaker placement. Speakers should be positioned at ear height when you are seated, unless noted otherwise For more home theatre design tips visit www.cleverliving.com.au

11.01.2022 4K Ultra HD. 03.01.2022 It's all about control! There's no doubt that automation is a great way to add that 'wow factor' to your home theatre. Imagine sitting down, then, at the press of a button, the lights dim, the screen lowers and the movie begins... An integrated automation solution allows all the devices in your theatre to be controlled by a single device. No more hunting around for a half dozen different remote controls, and making sure that each one is set to the correct 'mode'! How do yo...u prefer to interact with technology? Programmable remote controls look like the standard remote that comes with your TV, but can be programmed to control multiple devices. If you prefer something more visual you can choose a wall mounted or portable control panel - with a custom layout to suit your requirements and taste. You can also choose to have the control appear as an app on your phone or tablet, which can be shared with as many (or as few) users as you like.
